When Monster Hunter Rise was revealed last month, questions were raised about the Switch hardware it was running on.
After all, there have been rumours about a new and more powerful 4K Switch arriving next year and Monster Hunter Rise will be released alongside a number of other high profile releases early on in March.
In an interview with Eurogamer's Martin Robinson, Monster Hunter series' producer Ryōzō Tsujimoto said he couldn't talk about Nintendo's plans in the future regarding new hardware, but was able to confirm Monster Hunter Rise was running on standard Switch hardware.
EG: And it looked incredible as well. I was kind of amazed that you had it running on the Switch - was what we saw at TGS running on a vanilla Switch?
Ryōzō Tsujimoto: It was all running on Switch - everything you saw at TGS.
EG: I know you won't be able to talk to Nintendo's plans at all, but I find it interesting that there's a lot of quite high profile titles coming out next March, and speculation about a new Switch. If - in theory - there was a new Switch would you be well positioned to kind of take advantage of that?
Ryōzō Tsujimoto: Well, obviously we have no idea whatsoever what the plans would be in that direction, but even at the moment you actually have two different Switch hardwares you're targeting - you've got the the original Switch which has the docking mode, so that's something we've already borne in mind to make sure that the game isn't making any undue assumptions on the hardware owned by the player. As to those kind of plans on Nintendo's side, we can't speak to those at all. We're trying to make the game work as best as it can on whichever Switch you have
Tsujimoto also stated how the game had been in development for about "four years" in total - reaffirming it's been built on a standard Switch hardware from the ground up. The director of Monster Hunter Generations had a break before beginning work on the new portable title for Switch.

Kind of explains a lot. It looks kind of washed out compared to other RE Engine games like RE2 and DMC5 despite being optimized specifically for Switch hardware.
Is really is? If that's the case, that's really impressive.
WOW THIS GAME LOOKS GREAT DAY ONE FOR ME.
Even though I would like a Pro, this sentence is pretty cool no matter what:
"We're trying to make the game work as best as it can on whichever Switch you have"
This game looks fantastic, the people complaining it doesn't look like world are delusional and simply don't understand the power divide between the consoles.
I mean, did people thought the footage was from Switch Pro? That would be worrying in case it was, the game looks fantastic for the Switch, but there is clearly drawbacks in textures and frame rate at some points, if the Pro does exists it should at least looks way better.
I still feel like it's too soon for a Switch Pro. The console has only been around for 3 years. I feel like they could hold off for a couple more years before an upgrade. Especially since they want to have the Switch have a longer lifespan. Giving us an upgrade 5 years into the console's life could add 3-4 more years I think. Maybe even longer because of how strong the core concept of the Switch is.
I'd say what we are seeing in the MH Rise trailer is 4 years of absolute polish. We all know that the Switch is capable of really great visuals thanks to Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, it's just that not many other publishers have dug in to really show what the hardware is capable of. Now that we're seeing that it's surprising people.
People underestimate the Switch's raw power. It only appears "weak" when you compare it to power consoles. But yeah, Rise looks super impressive, never played A MH title before, but that will change with Rise.
@Charinzardon I doubt it would look better but for sure it will perform better.
Generations was so good, I just hope this is comparable. I feel like MHGU might have ruined me for the series. So sublime.
@Rika_Yoshitake honestly, this. It's obvious they had to make cuts in the scenery/foliage department but it remains serviceable. Meanwhile i'm really impressed by the monsters side of things which look really solid. And in a way I feel it might be at a very interesting middle ground where it will be easier to upgrade older monsters for Rise but may be very possible to "downgrade" monsters from World as well.
Nintendo already said they weren't announcing a new system this year and I think it would be odd to announce a optimized game for revision hardware and not tell people that the footage is on/optimized for revision hardware.
Disclaimer: I don't care either way as I'm not buying a third switch unless it is a Zelda system. Otherwise I'm happy to wait for the successor.
@Ryu_Niiyama You're not wrong...BUT Nintendo also swore on a stack of Bibles no hardware revisions were coming last year and then Switch Lite and Gen 2.
@shazbot Their answer to switch lite rumors was non committal at first and then an acknowledgment that they were "always developing new hardware". They have given a hardline no for 2020 revision rumors. They have not been afraid to say if items are coming out in 2021 and they are likely already looking into late 2021 given the new amiibo release window slip up.
@Ryu_Niiyama No. It wasn't.
It's buried under the announcements now, but they were flat denials, like this and this.
They did the same thing with the New 3DS and New 2DS.
I'm not mad at them, but they were not non-committal at first. They said no, then they said not at E3. Then they announced Switch Lite.
@shazbot That article you linked had Furukawa-san stating that so far they were not thinking about a successor. That is not a hard no answer. I'll grant that it is not explicitly non committal but a "not at this time" is PR for we don't want to talk about this right now. So I remain unconvinced. If people would just wait for announcements, companies wouldn't have to do this song and dance. You know they are going to make games and hardware, why not wait for them to tell you what it is? No speculation, no confusion, no rumor mill. But gossip isn't my thing so perhaps I just don't understand the enjoyment some people get out of it.
enough with these switch pro rumors seriously doubt it going to happen.
This are the guys that made MH4U and generation look amazing in the 3DS so I don’t expect less from them even if it doesn’t look as good as World, so I still hope for a Switch Pro that way the game can run better
The Metroid Prime Trilogy HD of consoles.
@Ryu_Niiyama Revised hardware is never announced more than 2 months before launch, so the comments about it not being announced this year don't make a difference for a March launch.
I was wondering.
Performance seems great already, so if a Switch Pro comes along, it'll need to be a substantial upgrade to tempt me.
This is some fake news.
@DonSerrot It's been around for 3.5 years now, it will be 4 years before the pro would come. The XBOX ONE X was released 4 years after the XBOX ONE and the PS4 Pro 3 years after the PS4.
It would be quite normal to release a Switch Pro next year.
@sanderev
They don’t do normal, it would have been normal for them to put out a straightforward GameCube 2 in 2006 or to maintain separate handheld and console systems.
@DonSerrot No way. The other systems all had upgrades around this point in their lives. Switch is losing out on many 3rd party games. It's time for an upgrade.
@Ryu_Niiyama Again, I'm not a Nintendo apologist, nor a hater, but I distinctly recall denials. From the articles I linked, do you think R&D for lite was less than 6 months?
Smaller node for tegra, attached Joycons, new molding, new surface, smaller battery size, smaller screen and they had "no plans" in January? Pull the other one.
The point I'm making is when Nintendo says "no/no plans" you could still have fresh hardware in your hands 6 months later.
That said, happy with my switch.
@KryptoniteKrunch If the graphics and artstyle is the reason why you're considering to try it out, be warned though that MH isn't your typical hack-and-slash game — this series' combat has an emphasis on timing, character placement, and direction the player is facing before you pull of an attack.
A lot of casual players never understood that it is by design and ended up thinking/feeling that the combat is clunky when in fact, even the monsters are under the same movement/attack "restrictions."
Getting good at it though feels really rearding compared to other hack-and-slash games that simply let you attack to your heart's content from the get-go.
Impressive how it looks, Capcom didn't take the lazy way after all with this game unlike some other dev. As for the Switch Pro rumor thing, it'll probably happen very soon. It may not be called the Switch Pro but with Nintendo in hot water with joycon drift lawsuits coming their way, this next Switch console iteration may be the answer that would likely get them out of that situation.
@EVIL-C
Do we really think that developers will want to develop exclusively for a revision that will only have a fraction of the user base of the Switch?
Most third parties are still going to skip Switch especially as more of them SWITCH from current generation offerings to focusing entirely on the next generation,
As there is no way that Nintendo's going to upgrade a mid-gen revision to PS5 levels or even Ps4 Pro. Best I'll think we'll see from developers if a Switch Pro does come out are a few "test the waters" XB1/Ps4 ports "exclusive to Switch Pro", that most of the Switch's audience will ignore and instead be excited about the faster loading times on Yoshi's Crafted World.
Switch Pro will get like 4 worthwhile exclusives, 7 slight upgrades to pre-existing games and 1 great update that everyone will remember just like every other Nintendo revision to date.
@sanderev I wasn't talking normal though. Like I said, Nintendo wants the Switch to have a longer than normal life cycle. They said so after the Switch took off like a rocket. Typically Nintendo's upgraded hardware carries the last 2-3 years of a life cycle. The 3DS came out in 2011 with the New 3DS coming in 2015. The 3DS pretty much died in 2017 when the Switch launched and it took Nintendo another year or so to realize it. So if Nintendo wants to match the 3DS they could totally go with next year. I still think the year after is better.
There's also the whole issue of a global pandemic slowing down development and manufacturing, not to mention a lot of people being unable to work and not having as much spare cash as normal. All of that won't get magically fixed over night. I imagine most if not all of 2021 will be spent recovering from this year. I imagine hardware development is also nearly impossible while working from home, so they are probably half a year behind making next year feel even less likely if they were going with "normal". 2022 around the 5th anniversary of the OG Switch just feels right to me.
They sure did some magic here, Day one buy.
It makes sense. Software made with one specific hardware in mind always looks better than multiplatforms. Specially when multiplatforms on Switch require more work to pull off.
Although I believe Nintendo is working on a Switch Pro model, I doubt this MH game would use it's features much at lauch considering they started working on it probably long before they knww the pro model even exists (and before knowing how more powerful actually is).
@EVIL-C There is no way any kind of upgraded Switch will be able to play the same games as the PS5 and the XBox whatever the random name generator said this time. There is zero reason for Nintendo to chase after third parties like that when the original Switch is still selling like crazy with it without them. The whole point of a Pro model is to give slowing sales a boost. The sales are still crazy strong with no sign of stopping any time soon. It's in their best interest to bide their time for now. Keep working on what they have and make sure it's a big upgrade when they do drop it on us.
"Really is". Is it supposed to look like something amazing outside the Switch's capabilities? It looks as poor as most Switch games.
@DonSerrot yes way too soon. But then again PS4 and Xbox got also upgraded hardware... it can be done.. as long the current games will be able to played on the "Pro Switch"
@Menchi Yes. Remember Disgaea 5? It was blurry mess from my understanding from the reviews while other hardware gave you sharp 2D sprites... 2D sprites blurry on a Switch system doesn't sound good. It's really underwhelming hardware. 4gb ram doesn't help either. Well it's what it is
“WheRe’S MY sWiTCh PRo?”
Unfortunately we live in a greedy society where everyone wants new and better all the time. You only have to look at the mobile phone market to see this.
The current Switch is perfect with loads of great games.
@DonSerrot a Switch Pro could (theoretically) definitely play games from the XSX and PS5. Not the first party ones, that are likely to be exclusive to the new gen machines, but third party titles definitely. This is probably more true of Xbox games than PS5 games, but I’d imagine they’ll be the same anyway.
The new gen machines are basically optimised PC’s and the third party games that get released on them will work in a similar way to PC - they’ll just play the version of the game with the settings that your hardware allows.
If you’re familiar with Xbox’s Smart Delivery system then you’ll know that any third party game on Xbox will play on Series X, Series S, One X and One S. Therefore, there is no reason to assume a game on Series X won’t play on a Switch Pro if the same game can run on a One S. We’ve already had loads of third party games that run fine on the base Switch that started on One S/ PS4.
For this reason alone Nintendo needs to keep up and release a Pro model soon (I reckon around Sept-Nov 2021 to capitalise on the pre-Holiday period).
@DonSerrot It'll be 4 years in March and the New 3DS came 4 years after the 3DS launch. Makes sense for a new Switch revision.
@Charinzardon The fact that Nintendo is telling developers to optimize their new releases for 4k, absolutely tells us that it exists. it cannot mean anything but that.
I don't understand why people are still speculating? Nintendo is telling developers to optimize games for 4k, it cannot mean anything but a new system, as the current cannot do that.
@Grumblevolcano The thing with Nintendo's hardware updates is they usually mark the end of a console's lifecycle, not the middle. The New 3DS (2015) had 2 years before the Switch (2017) ended it. Nintendo tried to hold out for another year or so but it was clear that it was done the moment the Switch entered the picture. If you look at the GBA (2001) it was two years until they released the GBA SP (2003) and then one more year until the DS (2004) came and replaced that. The DS Lite (2006) and the DSi (2008) also didn't get that much time before the 3DS (2011) came around. All of this to say that normally Nintendo goes for 2-3 years between new hardware versions, and those hardware versions tend to mark the tail end of things. Nintendo said they want the Switch to have a longer lifecycle so it'd make sense to spread out the revisions. We literally just got the Switch Lite so just going by their history it's make sense to expect 2-3 years before the next revision. That'd give another 2-3 years of life before giving us a whole new console. 8-9 years total from Switch launch. That'd fit the longer lifecycle Nintendo wants.
I mean obviously it was running on standard Switch hardware. It just looks like a good looking Switch game. Doesn't have MH World graphics or anything. It looks great.
Also people should really not be expecting separate games to run on a new upgraded Switch model. Nintendo has tons of history of upgrading their portable systems with slightly more powerful models (plus the N64 with the expansion pack). Everytime they do this there are like 2-4 games exclusive to the upgraded model. It's possible we see a handful of third party Xb1/ps4 games ported over with graphical downgrades that are exclusive to the upgraded model because it just wasnt quite possible to get them running on standard Switch hardware and the minor boost of the upgrade at least gets a downgraded version runnable. But i wouldnt be surprised if thats not even the case, because why would third parties go through the effort of porting a game over and having to do the work of downgrading it just to sit exclusively on a version of a system that will probably only ever have like 20 million sales?
Switch Pro or whatever will just let you play Switch games in higher res (apparently 4k docked using DLSS upgrading if the rumors are right) and it'll fix any framerate issues in games. Also in the upgrade rumor was something about new interactivity, so if the new model has some sort of new feature that is likely the only reason there will be exclusive games to it, and it'll probably be like 2 or 3 exclusive games based on that new feature, not based on power.
And I wouldn't be surprised if the new model launches in March on say the 4 year Switch launch anniversary. Wouldn't be surprised if Botw2 launches the same day, with Mario 3D World deluxe having just come out a couple weeks before, and MH and perhaps some other big games also coming out in March, and possibly a Zelda collection coming out in February for its 35th anniversary, it'd basically be a whole pseudo-launch of big titles timed to shine attention on Nintendo and their upgraded model, taking the wind out of the sails of the next gen systems launched just a few months beforehand.
@YANDMAN Just because they are telling devs to be ready for it doesn't mean it's coming in a matter of months. It takes time to make games. This article even says how MH Rise has been in the works for 4 years. That's a year before the Switch launched in 2017. This feels more like Nintendo wanting to make sure there are a bunch of games ready for when they do bring out a 4k ready Switch in a couple years. That way when they do release it they can point out how a bunch of games you already own are getting upgraded.
@Dm9982 the best thing about playing Monster hunter games is after you have played like 5 of them, you see that each has gotten a little better. It’s prob my fav series to watch evolve over like 4 generations now.
@link3710 that “hardware is never announced more than two months” statistic isn’t supported by data
Of course it's running on standard Switch hardware. The "Switch Pro" doesn't exist.
@Dm9982 It's going to be real hard for me to play without Valor style. Once I understood that style it makes you a unstoppable attack machine with almost any weapon. So broken yet so fun.
@Rodan2000 Couldn't agree more!
@Menchi You really don't like the Switch, do you?
@Rika_Yoshitake,
The game does look great, funny how the comments saying it does not look too good, are coming now people are aware it's running on current hardware, when there were no similar claims when the games visuals were revealed.
@Menchi,
Why even bother posting drivel like this fella, we all know the Switch does not have the power of Sony or Microsoft's machines, it's not like this is anything new.
The Switch's visuals are great for what it is, a hybrid handheld console that connects to your T.V.
@WiltonRoots,
Usual bait comment.
@johnvboy He used to post on here (at 94wpm) as Menchi187, he took over the mantle of being the main troll from the Emerald Isle after Sligeach finally got banned...
@GannonBanned Yes it is?
Switch Lite was announced July, released September
New 3DS was announced August, released October
2DS was announced August, released October
The New 2DS XL was announced in April, released in June.
The 3DS XL was announced in June, released in July.
@link3710 ah, so you mean strictly pertaining to Nintendo handhelds of the past few generations, not all consoles as a whole.
Gotcha
It is 30FPS if people were wondering how they were able to get it looking so good, not that it really matters most MH games were 30FPS before World anyway.
There won't be a Switch Pro, they are way too far along the life cycle. It is far more likely it is their next gen Switch that will still play all of the current gen games. If you do some research on nvidia you can see how old the Terga X1 is compared to what they are doing now, heck the X1 was old when it went into the Switch.
Nintendo even made a statement a couple years ago saying if a more powerful Switch were to come out all their first party games would run on the older one.
3rd party is super important and they have to move to the next gen or be left with next to no 3rd party support which will cripple them like previous generations who had no support.
@GannonBanned I was referring to Console Revisions. As in, the mid-gen refreshes that occur. I only have data going back through the DS (I can't find anything on when the GBA SP or Micro was announced to released), but yeah, in recent times any mid-gen hardware has had two months max.
So it stands to reason a Switch revision in March would be announced in January or February if it exists.
@Jokerwolf The Switch is only 3.5 years old? Their last 2 late-life revisions (New 3DS, and DSi) released 3.5 and 4 years into the respective systems' lifespan respectively. Sounds like we're just entering the target zone, not that it's too late.
I have been holding off on MONSTER HUNTER WORLD world in hopes this was in development. This will most likely be the first MH I really dive into. It looks fantastic and is a perfect example of what a game built from the ground up can be on Switch.
@link3710 You glossed over the whole 3rd party point I was making, this will be a short lifespan as they cut the Wii U short to compete with the XBONE and PS4. They will not split their market by making a stronger system that does anything but upscale if they do a revision, a more powerful same generation upgrade will alienate the userbase like the New 3DS did and the reason it only ended up having like 5-6 games that required one.
@Jokerwolf,
I think you are overestimating the sales of third party games, most of them sell pretty low numbers on the Switch, so to say not having them would cripple the console is incorrect.
@link3710 i’m old as hell (32) and my parents had the NES before I was born, so I’ve pretty much known Nintendo my whole life and I remember 64,
Gamecube, and Wii being announced way than 2 months before, not counting Sony and Microsoft, which is why I was confused.
As to the Switch Pro tho, aren’t Nintendo updates usually downgrades like the Lite. 3DS without the 3D, Wii that doesn’t plug in GC controllers, etc?
I can’t think of a successful Nintendo juicing option, except maybe the expansion pack for N64, which I don’t remember needing outside of Tony Hawk, Perfect Dark, and Donkey Kong.
64DD, the CD drive thing, the NES Classic with wired controllers and a fixed gaming library, etc
@johnvboy i think it depends, like a ton of people bought Skyrim, Dead By Daylight, and Witcher - maybe not as much as on Xbox or PC but enough that the companies made a profit
@GannonBanned,
They are still very small numbers in relation to Nintendo's first party games, in fact I don't think those games have broken a million copies sold, one of the biggest sellers was Mario rabbids, which would not have been possible without Nintendo in the first place.
I hope they don’t release a 4K Switch! I don’t have a 4K TV yet lol. I’ll buy one whenever Nintendo releases something that supports 4K, be it a new Switch model or their next system (which I’m expecting to launch 2022~2023)
@johnvboy that’s a good point, but I guess the third party talk shouldn’t only reference AAA, Devolver has seen incredible profits from their Switch ports, and Fortnite did extremely well here, too.
I think on the whole, Nintendo fans at large aren’t as graphic/performance focused. I didn’t have any issues with the way Mortal Kombat or Outer Worlds looked on my switch 🤷♂️
@johnvboy Doesn't matter, perception is everything in consumerism and any console generation that did not have the support failed when compared to it's peers, the evidence exists for that to be factual.
@Jokerwolf,
Well some claim the Switch has no third party support but is still sells well, and the Wii U's issues were far more than third party support.
Nintendo's first party games always drive their hardware.
@johnvboy People can argue all they want but so far history shows no 3rd party support causes poor console sales performance. Indie devs are also 3rd party and the Switch is doing well because Nintendo embraced them and other bigger devs.
Does it *****. @TheFrenchiestFry
Looks amazing. Could easily pass for a PS4 game. Stunning.
@GannonBanned I'm close to the same age. I was actually only quoting the upgraded hardware for that reason. Specifically, we've only seen it in the portable market before. Stuff like the Gameboy Color, the Gameboy Advance SP, the DSi, and the New 3DS are the 4 major revisions we've had for each prior portable system that 'juice it up'. Though, the SP was solely advances in things like rechargeable battery, backlit screen and screen quality, not extra power.
@smiffo99 Never said that. All I said was that it looked noticeably less vibrant and lacked the lighting quality of most RE Engine games. Doesn't mean it doesn't look impressive for Switch specifically
@Jokerwolf Why should they make this a short lifespan? The Switch launch went amazingly being well into the PS4/XB1s life, and 3rd party support is looking stronger than ever going into the PS5 / XBSX's launch. A normal lifespan would end in late 2022/2023, and we know 2021 is looking fine for 3rd party support.
@Menchi Gr8 b8 m8 i r8 8/8
Day One For me!
@link3710 I am not saying now as it is still too early, but I doubt you will see a revision that is anything but a better screen and more battery life, maybe upscaling/faster load times but not enough that they would make games exclusive to it as that would anger a massive amount of people. They are already working on their nextgen system one would be foolish to think they are not. I am guessing mid 2022 when they announce it.
@Jokerwolf Well no duh, but who expects the Switch Pro to have more than a handful of exclusives a la the New 3DS? I haven't seen anyone saying that.
@link3710 It could happen as it did with the 3DS, Nintendo tends to forget their mistakes quicker than others lol.
@Jokerwolf ...I just mentioned the 3DS as an example of what they might do. That only had a very small handful of exclusives for the upgraded model, which consisted of almost exclusively of console ports that otherwise wouldn't have run on it rather than anything designed specifically for that model.
@link3710 Yes which was a huge mistake and they stopped doing it after the backlash, so hopefully they don't do it again.
What I am saying is with how far advanced beyond the X1 chipsets Nvidia is it will hurt in the long run waiting too much to jump to the next generation which will be backwards compatible clearly lol.
@Jokerwolf Why was it a huge mistake? And no, they didn't stop doing it, the last New 3DS exclusive released September 2018 (Minecraft in EU), so they were still doing it up until the very end of new 3DS releases.
@Ryu_Niiyama Hey, you're back!!
@NEStalgia Howdy, for now...it is a test run. But all the hoopla about new systems, means I was lurking anyway so I might as well as post, lol. I still have notifications turned off for now though.
@Ryu_Niiyama Well, good to see you back regardless. And, yeah, I keep trying to tear myself away more....but it doesn't work with t he console launches!
@RustedHero Between Valor style, and the ability to transmog armor..... oh and Ah-tal Ka armor being a quick “build a bear” set.... yeah Gen is amazing. I couldn’t even get into World because of it
@link3710 Because like I said before you alienate the people who don't want to upgrade to a slightly different version of the same hardware generation to play a new game they might want to play that is no longer available on their still same system. So just pushing to the next generation makes it an even playing field. Or Nintendo could take a hit and offer like an 80% trade in value of the OG Switch or something like that.
It is also in their interest to push to the next generation since about 10 million Switches that people have can be hacked with a literally a paperclip.
@Jokerwolf The Switch is on a pace to outsell the Wii, and software sales and attach rate are far higher than on that console. The fact that consoles can be pirated clearly isn't depressing game sales (like on the DS in particular).
Again, I don't think a revision will have too many, if any exclusives. But I do think it's inevitable. And there will likely be some third party ports (since Nintendo doesn't have any titles to port the Switch couldn't handle), that are exclusive to the revised model. I don't think we'll see any 1st party exclusives save potentially some VC (particularly Gamecube / Wii, since those two systems have a huge variance in requirements to emulate on a game by game basis). But I do see something like say, Kingdom Hearts 3 being exclusive to the revised model perhaps.
You're right, not everyone will get to play those games. But... too bad? If the next system is going to have BC (which seems almost certain), then they can buy and play them when the successor comes out.
@link3710 It really isn't a "too bad" scenario, they need all the good will they can get after all the money people have spent fixing their joy-con.
Look at the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X, they did not have anything exclusive because they knew people would be super peeved it that happened.
I doubt it will happen, but if it did that would be a huge PR mistake.
@Jokerwolf The release of a few small exclusives on the New 3DS didn't upset more than a tiny handful of people on the internet, and the same will be true here. Most people won't care about that. From a PR perspective, they can quite easily say 'too bad' and focus on making PR moves people will actually care about. As long as they don't put any new first party titles out exclusive for the revision, then it'll be fine. 3rd parties can do what they want.
@link3710 Well it is anti-consumer and alienating is all that I am saying if it happens. Doesn't really matter to me I will get one and hack the old one so I can do all kinds of nefarious things with it lol. Not to mention there is a fully working Switch emulator for PC now anyways lol.
@shazbot Your own links show that you're wrong. Nintendo very specifically never said they were not going to release a new system.
"The main focus of sales now is Switch, and so far we have not thought about successor models and price cuts"
There are several things to unpack here. First of all, the Switch Lite is not a successor model. Nintendo has specifically stated it's a companion model to sell along side it, not succeed it. This may seem like a legalese distinction, but it's definitely a deliberate thing that isn't the same. They also said what their main focus was. This is a catch all meaningless statement as it means they can be doing anything they want, as long as it's not considered their MAIN focus.
And finally, while it's true many articles misrepresented these statements with summations of "there will be no new Switch model", their assertions aren't the same as Nintendo saying that.
The only flat denial Nintendo made regarding the Switch Lite was that they wouldn't announce it at E3. Which is completely true. They didn't. Many gaming news outlets and YouTubers for somehow confused and took that to mean no new system would release that year, but it's quite clear after the fact that such a thing was never said.
Meanwhile, this year Nintendo said in no uncertain terms that in the 2020 calendar year, there would be no new system announcements. Maybe they'll announce it January 1st. Could be any time then or later. Or never! But it won't be this year.
@Mountain_Man
Probably exists in some sort of beta form. They'd be foolish to not be toying with prototypes etc. They themselves have said they're always working on the next hardware. Even if its just on paper.
@Deltath I'm sorry, but I disagree.
"they have not thought about new models"
"Nintendo currently has no plans to make new Switch console models, company president Shuntaro Furukawa says."
Unless you do not consider the switch lite a new model, or believe the plans/thoughts came after these are at best misrepresentations and at worst lies.
Again, the point I'm making is not whether or not Nintendo 'legally' didn't lie.
The point is if Nintendo says no, having implies no, or if Nintendo says "Shuntaro Furukawa: we have no plan to launch new Switch models or lower the console price" and doesn't disambiguate their statement, it could still mean new hardware in 6 months.
I'm not saying a pro does exist, I'm just saying we can't trust vaguely, or carefully, or clearly worded statements.
For anyone who hopes a Switch Pro will bringt 4k and 60fps gaming soon: I just watched the teardown of the PS5 and that thing is huge! All that for 8k and 120hz gaming. The Switch is as big as the PS5 a power Supply. Heck, even the Xbox Series S will not support 4k gaming.
Taking the size of the Switch into consideration, I think many people don't make fair comparisons.
Nintendo wants to bring an enjoyable experience to everyone. They could let the SoC run on higher speed which would result in less battery life, hotter device and or louder fan (just look at PS4 Pro).
Nintendo already did great magic with the Switch, but even they don't have enough Mana to pull these stunts. So I for myself will not get my hopes up for 4k and or 60fps with a Switch Pro. If they can do it, it's the cherry on the cake!
@mazzel,
Awesome post and let's be honest here, the minorities on internet forums pushing for a powerful Switch are not the ones driving sales, they are niche at best.
@shazbot,
It's a minefield trying to sort out Nintendo's statements on new hardware revisions of current consoles, and they have been caught lying in the past, we all remember the 3DS XL, at that years E3 event Nintendo stated no revisions were planned, only for them to announce a new model very soon after.
Nintendo will be very aware of the impact a new model or revision of the current Switch console could have on potential holiday sales for the existing models, and will always keep things under wraps until very near release dates.
@johnvboy Thank you. That's exactly the point I've been trying to make. Their statements mean jack.
@shazbot,
Absolutely, take whatever they say with a huge pinch of salt, when it comes to hardware revisions anything can happen.
You can tell it's running on reg Switch, there's a lot of frame rate dips, a loooot so far, and the environments are pretty simple vegetation wise. The reason anyone is surpised it looks this good on Switch is that we rarely have 3rd parties putting in this amount of effort into their games, which are usually smashed down ports not built from the ground up for Switch.
@mazzel I never had non-Pro version of the Ps4, but I dont find the system all that loud except when a game is loading up.
@Dang69 I don't have a PS4, so I cannot speak from experience. Maybe it's just a handful of people who have this problem and these people speak out loud in forums
These people saying "a net is taking off in my living every time I play my PS4 pro". The comments are hilarious!
I guess it's mainly the first version and they improved it later on? Anyway, I hope your PS4 stays quiet ✌️
@Dang69 yeah, actually after watching the video I was wondering who would actually think this runs on a pro. There are visible frame rate drops. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward how much they can improve it and what a 3rd party game like this specifically developed for the Switch from the ground is capable of!
@DonSerrot At no point did I say it would be out in a matter of months, I said this is proof that it is coming.
@mazzel I have faith in Capcom when they are TRYING. Outside of the Switch, theyve done a quality job on all their big titles in the last few years, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite being the last kind of poopy game theyve made.
