Update: A Nintendo eShop listing has now confirmed that Thomas Was Alone will launch on Switch on 19th February. The game will cost £9.99 (although pre-orders grant you a 20% discount) and there's also a free demo to download should you want to give it a go.
Original Article (Fri 9th Oct, 2020 14:00 BST): Indie puzzle-platformer Thomas Was Alone will be launching on Nintendo Switch next year, its creator has confirmed.
Originally starting out as a Flash-based browser game around a decade ago, Thomas Was Alone has gone on to be a huge success on a number of different gaming platforms, including the Wii U. In our review of that version, we said that it deserved to be recognised as one of the console's very best download-only titles, giving it a very strong score of 9/10.
Now, it'll be available to a whole new audience on Switch. Creator Mike Bithell spilled the beans on social media today.

Thomas Was Alone is an indie minimalist 2D platformer about friendship and jumping and floating and anti-gravity. Guide a group of rectangles through a series of obstacles, using their different skills together to get to the end of each environment. Listen to awesome music by David Housden. Jump over rectangles meticulously placed by Mike Bithell. Listen to voiceover read wistfully and a bit amusingly by Danny Wallace.
Thomas Was Alone tells the story of the world's first sentient AIs, and how they worked together to, well, not escape: Escape is a strong word. 'Emerge' might be better. 'Emerge' has an air of importance about it, while keeping the myriad plot twists and superhero origin stories you'll discover under wraps. We didn't even mention the bouncing. That'd be overkill.
As you can see, no exact date has been given just yet, but we'll make sure to keep an eye out for more news on its Switch debut over the next few months.

Huh. Interesting.
Such a good game.
I remember absolutely loving this game when I first played it. Even with the minimalist artstyle, I thought the story was incredibly charming and fun to play through.
I had this on Wii U I was thinking about it just recently! Recommended
Lovely game. The narration and soundtrack are so great.
This game has taken on an almost legendary status and deservedly so. Mike Bithell is a very talented man and I hope he gets the chance to work on something with a bigger budget at some point in his career and can see his work get some more mainstream recognition.
I imagine it will come with the DLC included. A very good little game. Can see why Bithell went onto more great things with Volume and John Wick Hex.
This game has solid level design wrapped up in a minimalist package. Very good game.
I don't know if I need to play this game again, but it was really neat.
Lovely, I only tried it on mobile so I hated the touch controls. At the right price tag... for sure!
Wanted to play this since reading all the references to it in Subsurface Circular, can't wait.
Played this on PC back in the day, such a great game! Makes sense since Mike Bithell (main designer) also did John wick hex and that is coming over as well. If you have any hesitations about the art style, trust me it works in its favor. Give it a shot, it’s an incredible game!
Yaaaaaaaaaaay finally!!! This didn't come to the WiiU in Japan, and I was just looking at Bithell Game's website yesterday after reading the John Wick Hex article and wondering if this would ever happen. Eggcite!!!
Ah yes. Enjoyed this on the Wii U.
I've been interested in playing this. I'll pick it up on Switch if the price is comparable to other platforms.
Another one of those game announcements for Switch where I was certain that it was already available on the eShop.
But sure, it was a fun enough time that I'd double dip if it were on sale. It'd be nice to have around the next time I feel like sympathizing real hard with various sized rectangles.
Beat this earlier this year. A simple game, but greatly elevated by its charm.
Papers please still not on the switch!
I really enjoyed this game on the PS Vita (R.I.P.). I also bought the soundtrack.
@bluemage1989 he is working on the John wick game that was just announced for switch 😊
I played through this game on Wii U it was a well narrated lovely puzzle platformer.
I would recommend this to everyone
@AmplifyMJ Same! If there's a single game I miss off my Wii U, it's this.
Loved this on Vita, played it again on PS4 and would happily buy it again for Switch if it's reasonably priced.
Hmm, looks similar to the mobile game Sometimes You Die.
Noticed it when I was browsing the coming soon section the other day. The sale ends at launch so I'll probably end up preordering it. Seems like something I'll enjoy and it's pretty cheap.
I love this game so much, maybe I'll play it again.
Probably the most pretentious indie game, pass from me.
Excellent, and hilarious, game. I'm glad it's coming to Switch.
@Clyde_Radcliffe I don't know that other game but the narrative on this one is fantastic.
Fantastic game. Far more than the sum of it's parts.
I'm a little surprised it wasn't already on there, given that it's on wii U, as well as pretty much any other platform. TWA is a classic, and everyone should play it.
