Hyrule Warriors Age Of Calamity

The spooky season is almost over, the pumpkins will soon be smashed or cooked up into soups and pies (or absent-mindedly left to shrivel on the window sill before getting thrown in the trash in a couple of weeks) and November arrives with promises of longer nights, chillier days, and the long-awaited return of Wyclef. Yes, people — we made it into the final furlong of 2020. Phew! While many of us will be glad to see the back of this particular year, there's still plenty to look forward to for gamers of all persuasions, not least on Switch.

In October we enjoyed new releases like Ys Origin, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit and Pikmin 3 Deluxe (which just squeaks in there on the 30th), and there's more coming up in the final two months of the year, including a return trip to the Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and what looks to be Ubisoft's take on a similar style of game, with a hefty dose of Kid Icarus added for good measure.

So, it's time to steel yourself for the impending frenzy of Black Friday and the holiday season. Don't worry, lovely people — it'll all be all right in the end.

Bakugan: Champions Of Vestroia - 6th November

Teased by Nintendo and presented by WayForward during a Paper Mario Treehouse Presentation, this might not be what people were hoping for, but Bakugan: Champions Of Vestroia has the potential to blow expectations out of the water – the studio behind the Shantae series certainly has the pedigree and chops to deliver.

We were impressed when we previewed the game recently, so keep an eye out for our verdict soon.

Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. - 13th November

Sure, its not a Switch game, but it's got us excited all the same. This little beauty will play Super Mario Bros. and The Lost Levels, and also comes with a host little Easter Eggs to enjoy. And an alarm that you'll never use, ever.

You'll need a little luck to get your hands on one of these if pre-orders are anything to go by, but if you can resist putting money down for a brand new Game & Watch in 2020, please pass on that information — our wallets are smarting!

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity - 20th November

A surprise announcement much in the same vein as Paper Mario: The Origami King earlier in the year, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will take you back into the world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, only 100 years earlier to witness the Great Calamity that befell Hyrule.

We all know how that ends, but we'll be intrigued to see the story play out with the Warriors series' patented hack-and-slash gameplay once again given the Zelda treatment. We're gagging to visit Hyrule Castle Town in its heyday, and we don't have too long to wait.

Immortals Fenyx Rising - 3rd December

Any game that channels the art style and feeling of Breath of the Wild and Kid Icarus is all right by us, and Ubisoft's Immortals: Fenyx Rising (formerly known as Gods & Monsters) looks like a beauty, despite the most generic video game name we've seen in some time. Seriously, it's an 'Origins' away from a parody.

Terrible title aside, we've got high hopes for this one, and Zion was impressed with the game after a hands-on with a PC build. It remains to be seen how the Switch version will hold up, but we've got our fingers crossed.

Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise - 4th December

A sequel to the boxercise rhythm game Fitness Boxing, this new game will add a host of new modes (including a two-player mode), three new instructors (joining the original six) and various other tweaks over the original game — a surprise hit for Nintendo and developers Imagineer when it released nearly two years ago. If you've got the original, you can carry your save data over to the new game, too. Given the shape 2020 has left us in, we could probably do with getting some blood pumping with a little more Fitness Boxing.

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 - 8th December

A surprise announcement earlier in the year, we're massive fans of the original titanic puzzle crossover, and we're fascinated to see the new features Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 will bring to the table, including Co-op Boss Raids and Skill Battles. Not much else to say, really — it's Puyo Puyo and Tetris... again. Sign us up.
