Marvelous has revealed that the next instalment in the Story of Seasons life/farm sim series is coming to Switch on 23rd March 2021. Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town will put you to work cultivating your farm just next to the titular port town and this entry promises more customisation options and more freedom than ever to live your best life, plus plenty more marriage candidates of course.
From the look of the trailer above, you'll have your work cut out for you clearing space in the forest for your new abode and cultivating all the bountiful natural wonders nearby. Lovely picturesque forest? Bah, who needs oxygen?! Chop it all down! We're sure you're required to live harmoniously with nature, too — this is wholesome stuff, after all.
Here are some more details from the PR, plus a handful of screenshots if the trailer above has left you wanting more:
Earlier in the year the remade version of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town went down rather well on Switch (we certainly liked it), and we're intrigued to see what this next entry can bring to the table. The game is confirmed as a physical release, too — good news if you're a cart lover.
Let us know below if you've got space in your life for another life sim when this launches in March next year.

I looks pretty cute
Edit: *It's, I hate my kayboafd
Interesting wait is that a PUPPY reee...
I hate to say it but this looks too much like a cheap mobile game to me. Seeing this after witnessing Rune Factory 5 really made me lose interest in the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series going forward.
This was a highlight for me.
Oooh looks gorgeous. Still hyped for Rune Factory 5 more but this looks lovely.
I wish they had used the art style for the Friends of Mineral Town remake or the Doraemon crossover, but it's still nice. It seems that they've added elements to make it even more appealing to a casual audience. Still, we haven't had a proper, all-new console game in this franchise since Animal Parade on the Wii, so this is huge.
Man, the 3rd party stuff for 2021 is looking pretty great so far. Rune Factory 5, Disgaea 6, Monster Hunter Rise, SMT V, Bravely Default II, now this... Even without knowing much of Nintendo's plans for next year, it still seems like there's a lot to look forward to.
March 2021 seems to be a good timing for such a life sim, same as for AC in 2020.
Looks way better than FoMT visually and there seems to be a lot more going on gameplay wise aswell. Count me intrigued
i cannot wait for this game, really threw me off because of how different it is compared to the classical story of season games, - wow i really am excited for it but the release date kills me lol.
the graphis are major adorable <3
I hope they left out the harvest goddess. I'm so sick of her being in every game
Don't like the art style. If people are really itching for an alternative time waster to Animal Crossing then Rune Factory 4 is terrific game and available now. Or just wait for Rune Factory 5.
This is the first farming sim since Stardew Valley that has piqued my interest. I'm excited to learn more about it!
not sure now whether to snag this or rune factory 5 next year, both interest me and i was originally gonna grab friends of mineral town beforehand
This and Rune Factory 5 look good to me...
Story of Season was a huge disappointment and this looks to double down on all its mistakes, so the hardest of passes from me.
@Mountain_Man Some people may not be interested in the combat that comes with those games... but I agree that otherwise they're excellent options!
Inject it into my veins!!!!!! I’m gonna level a forest. This is gonna be my Stardew. I can feel it. As a LoZ vet, I’m a little creeped out by just happening upon a chicken in the woods...might not come back out alive!
Hoping they keep same sex marriage in this one.
So excited for this! I love that they added sprinklers...FINALLY!!! It was so hard to give those up when I started playing Friends of Mineral Town after playing Stardew Valley for so long. As this is a new game I hope the developers have added the ability for same-sex relationships. Since they were in FOMT on Switch, there's no reason not to include them in this new game so fingers crossed it's an option! Also really hoping they release a pre-order bonus stuffed animal like they have with past releases!
I went coocoo crazy go nuts with Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (like, spending months save-scumming to get more than 100 units of bamboo), and then with Trio of Towns I tried to game the system by getting married on my birthday, or forcing my child's birthday to match my husband's birthday.
Let me tell you what happens when you force your child's birthday to match your spouse's birthday: it doesn't work. Further, while everyone in town is excited to meet the new baby, when you get into the day (or days) that conflict with an existing important birthday or holiday, everyone stops talking about the baby. For about two hours, I thought that my character had a secret miscarriage or I had been abducted by aliens or something.
So hopefully (I mean, not for my sanity, that's already gone), this new game will have the town customization of A New Beginning combined with the brain-melting ability to intersect your birthday with your child's birthday with your spouse's birthday with your anniversary.
I am so, so excited for this one!
Yeah, so I never played Harvest Noon or any Story of Seasons game, but this is a one to one 3D copy of stardew valley, right?
Probably not as polished as stardew, therefore I will skip it...
@Max_the_German Looks like we will all be farming in 2021 if the lockdowns carry on into the next year.
I expected more camera freedom, but hey, it's a new Story of Seasons, so I'll try out!
Btw I think this was technically announced on January 2017. Remember?
not a life sim guy , but those complaining about the graphics here realize that also applies to animal crossing right?
I legit thought this was another HM entry.
I wish developers from Stardew Valley were involved in this game. I noticed there's still a confusion between Story of Seasons and Harvest Moon localisation in west.
A very welcoming surprise in today's mini Direct. RF5, Bravely Default 2 and now this.
So Story of Seasons is Harvest Moon, and the Harvest Moon games aren’t Harvest Moon. Yikes. Somebody screwed up.
Pan Paka Pan, bring back the chat portaits, this is my command!
💚
Looks good but i hope they add the chat portraits back, it adds more charm to the game
@Retro_Player_77 I couldn't disagree more. The only part that isn't great looking is the graphics are just decent. But the style is cute. They're nothing impressive, but the gameplay looks like a lot of fun.
@MonadoBoy That's a solid point. And SMT III remaster. There's a lot coming already and it's still October 2020. 2021 is going to be stacked. Probably will have all or most of the games planned for 2021 plus a wave of games pushed back from 2020 pandemic. We're also in an interesting time for first party stuff because most all of the big franchises already have main entries and most of the stuff worth having from Wii U has been ported. They could be planning anything at this point, as seen already with Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.
@RPGamer There's no point in even mentioning Harvest Moon: One World. It's not even a real game.
@Dragwhite May as well skip FoMT (unless you're a huge fan of the original and need the nostalgia trip) and just get both Olive Town and RF5.
@Screen Story of Seasons is an entire franchise with dozens of games. Which one are you talking about and what were the issues you had?
@mazzel No, it's not a one to one 3D copy of Stardew Valley. Not at all.
@Deltath Probably going to now, looking forward to playing both nonetheless though!
@Deltath yeah... No... It's exactly Stardew in 3D
@mazzel You said one to one copy. A one to one copy is.. exactly that. 1:1. That means there's literally no difference. It doesn't mean they're similar. It means literally there isn't even one IOTA of data that differs. Literally everything shown in that trailer is different. Much of it is similar, but none of it is the same. Also, are you really putting the CREATOR of this genre on blast for making a game similar to the games they invented? Stardew Valley took virtually every idea it has from the Bokujou Monogatari/Story of Seasons (formerly Harvest Moon) franchise. There's literally not one element of gameplay in Stardew Valley that wasn't already in those games. Even the story and the visuals are taken directly from previous Story of Seasons games. What Stardew has was a lot of content, polished gameplay and well written characters. Not originality.
@Deltath Maaaaan, you take this way to serious! I know SV took almost every idea from HM, that was the whole point and the dev does not hide it!
If we find every idea SV took from previous games recreated in this Story of Seasons Game, it basically took the same idea from SV, making like a "best of game". So yeah, for me its a 1 to 1 copy
Me literally excited to hear upcoming Story of Seasons on Switch.
Cross my finger for same gender marriage again.
Also, i still keep my eyes peeled on Harvest Moon One World because i saw a little bit potential.
@mazzel It still isn't a 1 to 1 copy. That will never be what that means. It's not a matter of opinion. It's a matter of irrefutable objective fact. 😁
@Deltath
The latest friends of mineral town was a debauchery of writing and propaganda with gameplay that reeks of stagnation.
@Screen I haven't played it, but I feel like it's difficult to imagine that it is what you just said. A debauchery of writing? That would mean the writing is filled with sensual pleasures. And then rife with a political agenda? So you're saying it's sensual, filled with politics and stagnant gameplay? Is this actually what you meant?
@Deltath
Not the first part maybe I chose the wrong word, but it feels like the developers are shilling in their writing and not making enough innovative design changes especially when directly compared to ACNH
@Screen Well, it was a remake of a GBA game. I'm not saying that means it shouldn't be good, but there's a reason it was $30 at launch instead of $60. It was more meant for fans of the original than as the next entry. I don't know if Olive Town will be a good game or not, but the trailer already shows lots of new mechanics and changes. It's definitely a new entry rather than just a rehash of the same mechanics.
