The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Light Edition For Switch Surfaces Via German Retailer

My guess is it will only play on a switch LITE.

Umm obviously it's a completely original adventure made for the Switch, exclusive to the platform forever. Light edition stands for Geralt's path toward light, where he makes up for his cloudy past and frolicks with Ciri down to happy-go-lucky lane. Coming December 3rd.

Who the hell would want to buy a cartridge that requires a mandatory download over one with the complete game?!

@Northwind : Indeed. My guess is that this may be just the base game on a smaller cartridge, but even so, it's not as if it's cheap by any stretch of the imagination. The complete game (on a 32GB cartridge) is priced very fairly, in fact, cheaper than many of Nintendo's own releases (that contain only a tiny fraction of the content of a game like The Witcher 3).

I too thought it would be something about a smaller card with a required download.

But now that I remember the release, it came in a boxed edition with a map, a booklet and a couple of stickers. This light edition might be just that, the same game dlc and all, but without the (admittedly few) physical goodies included in the first release.

Maybe it's a pocket edition done in a similar style to Final Fantasy XV: Pocket Edition.

The complete edition is the best edition; why on earth would anyone deprive themselves of such an experience just boggles my mind?

Did the original require a download? This could be a game simply on the card itself, hence light on your switch SD card, but thats just wishful thinking. What's the point of making a cheaper version..

@doctorhino only downloads for updates after the release were required. Of the shown price is true, it's even more expensive then the complete edition, which is available around 50€ normally.

Must be using sweetener in the cartridge plastic. It's obvious.

That's the regular full price for a game, and for the complete edition too. I wonder what the point of this is.

Maybe the next gen version launching in 2021 has content not coming to the Switch version hence "complete" is no longer accurate?

Heeding this stuff is pointless in general, but the case at hand sounds frankly silly to boot. What would be the point of cutting card size and/or physical extras, price reduction? A year on, when the complete edition itself is a recurrent item on physical and digital sales? 😕🤔

The cover is a lighter shade and its a limited edition available til March next year, pre orders on Amazon have almost gone, be quick

Time will tell on this one, as article says, it includes all DLC so at a loss for what "lite" denotes....

A version without box and extras sounds most likely, but...I've noticed several publishers swapping out physical cart editions for download-code-in-box editions in the last few months, even Bandai Namco and Rising Star have started doing it. Hope that isn't what's happening here.

Edit: 'even Bandai Namco' I post, then had another look at the picture, and... this is a version published by Bandai Namco...

The complete edition had a patch of 3.3 GB that resolved some crash bugs and other minor tweaks, but that’s the only download, it’s playable without it.

It would be awesome if we got the first two witchers rereleased on the switch, but CDPR is clearly busy, so no wishful thinking from me.

I'm going to pick this up purely out of curiosity on how this actually fits on the switch. I think it's one of the technical marvels on the switch this and Doom are amazing achievements.

Light is light there no bones about it. You will have to download. And it won't have all the extra as the big Box version-which why it's called light. Of which as mentioned doesn't cost that much.

Who in the right mind would want to buy a feature-limited version?

@Grumblevolcano Considering how small the Switch game carts are, in size not storage, do you really think a digital Switch is something Nintendo would bother with? I know Sony did it with PSP Go but those discs were a bit bigger, and screens were relatively tiny back then.

Not saying it couldn't happen, saves them a couple of $ not putting the slot in there, and a tiny bit of size, just not sure it's worth the redesign. I mean if the Lite weren't out yet I'd guess make that digital, but since they already have a $100 cheaper Lite is an all digital worth the effort for either space or money saving to sell alongside the other 2?

I suppose Switch TV could be all digital, but don't see the need to limit it that way, might kill sales before they start.

I was half-sure and hoping they would do something like that when the game was first rumored for the Switch! It seemed ludicrous, and still seems, to try and run the same game on poor ol’ Tegra X1.

Currently playing through the full version on the Switch. Great game.

I know I am a minority, but this has to be one of the most overrated games of this generation. I played it for like 20 hours hoping to get good, but it was a pretty generic open world experience. (Great soundtrack, I give you that)

It has the game and recent updates all on one card. No extra downloads needed. Redefining light, by being light on Switch's low storage.

@AlienigenX I know plenty of people who just thought it was "okay", not too bad story but the game itself was a fairly typical RPG. Not many typical RPGs around these days though, which is perhaps why it is held in higher regards than it perhaps should.

Maybe it's just the cartridge, for the many people who, like me, had their cartridge bitten beyond repair by one of their dogs the day after finally biting the bullet and buying the game that was above their budget because they have dogs to feed...

A Switch game card might have a bitter taste to it, as one of my dogs experienced first hand, but some irony is more bitter.

@Grumblevolcano So far what we know is that the next gen versions' enhancements will purely be on the technical side, but other than that, Complete Edition on PS5/Series X will be exactly the same as the PC and Switch versions of Complete Edition in terms of general content. It'll just look astronomically better because the PS5/Series X aren't hindered by 2013 Tegra X1 SoCs
