67% off - was $29.99, now $9.99 until Aug 20 2020

Almost impossible to categorise yet utterly compelling as a result, Hand of Fate 2 is a unique RPG experience. Fusing the basic premise of a deck-building card game with the heart of an action-RPG, there’s just so much to enjoy here; the rewarding premise of its deck-building, the endless depth of its questing, the simple pleasure of its combat. This is a handheld port that’s practically indistinguishable from the version you can play elsewhere. Do yourself a favour and get this fantasy romp in your digital library right now.

Velocity 2X (Switch eShop)

Velocity 2X (Switch eShop)Velocity 2X (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Curve Digital / Developer: FuturLab
Release Date: 20th Sep 2018 (USA) / 20th Sep 2018 (UK/EU)

75% off - was $19.99, now $4.99 until Aug 13 2020

In an age where indie titles are becoming increasingly more reliant on procedural generation to do all the heavy lifting, it can be immensely satisfying to play a game that is tailor-made for one specific experience. Velocity 2X excels in this regard, offering up an immaculately designed, endlessly replayable arcade experience - half shoot 'em up, half platformer - that shows just how engaging twitch gameplay can be. This is one you definitely don’t want to miss out on. We're usually happy enough to experience the 'no filler' part of the well-known phrase, but Velocity 2X supplies the 'killer' too.

RIVE: Ultimate Edition (Switch eShop)

Publisher: Two Tribes / Developer: Two Tribes
Release Date: 17th Nov 2017 (USA) / 17th Nov 2017 (UK/EU)

90% off - was $14.99, now $1.49 until Aug 13 2020

RIVE is a fantastic addition to the Switch eShop and stands as an amazing twin-stick shooter. Incredible presentation, tight gameplay, high difficulty, and lots of replayability combine for an unforgettable experience that we would highly recommend you check out. Two Tribes outdid itself with its final game and although the company will be sadly missed, it couldn’t have gone out with more of a bang.

Valley (Switch eShop)

Valley (Switch eShop)Valley (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Blue Isle Studios / Developer: Blue Isle Studios
Release Date: 7th Mar 2019 (USA) / 7th Mar 2019 (UK/EU)

70% off - was $14.99, now $4.49 until Aug 9 2020

Valley might be more like a book than a video game; you pick it up, you experience its story to your satisfaction, you put it down. Given the low impact of the bulk of its gameplay, it’s almost puzzling that they bothered to include a few moderately challenging sections at all amid what is mostly just a pleasant jaunt through an appealing world. As long as a would-be player understands that this is not your typical FPS and it’s a somewhat shorter experience as well, there is something cool and refreshing to be found here. In a games market often trying to operate as either an endless buffet or a sticky-sweet dessert parlour, Valley is a satisfying meal that doesn't outstay its welcome.

This recently featured on our selection of the best 'walking sims' on Switch, so if you're after something contemplative and relaxing, now might be a good time to pick it up.

Earthlock (Switch eShop)

Earthlock (Switch eShop)Earthlock (Switch eShop)
Publisher: SnowCastle Games / Developer: SnowCastle Games
Release Date: 8th Mar 2018 (USA) / 8th Mar 2018 (UK/EU)

80% off - was $29.90, now $5.98 until Aug 14 2020

An indie adventure with a lush world, fun characters, and enjoyable battles, Earthlock brings the soul of PS1-era JRPGs to the Switch with excellent results. Inconsistent dialogue and notable load times are among its few missteps, but as a package, it captures the appeal of the epoch wonderfully. If you’re looking for a fresh-feeling JRPG that still calls back to the classics, this is a lovely choice.

And with the growing trend of games plummeting to mere cents, here's our sub-$1 pick for a super cheap game that's worth the memory space it takes up on your Switch...

Toki Tori (Switch eShop)

Toki Tori (Switch eShop)Toki Tori (Switch eShop)
Publisher: Two Tribes / Developer: Two Tribes
Release Date: 30th Mar 2018 (USA) / 30th Mar 2018 (UK/EU)

90% off - was $4.99, now $0.49 until Aug 13 2020

Toki Tori is a charming, fun, and pleasingly tricky puzzle game that will put your mind to the test in simple, but challenging levels. While the goal always seems almost too easy on the surface, the game’s deceptive nature actually forces players to come up with perfect solutions throughout – which is no easy task! The fact that the game’s level editor still hasn’t made its way from PC to consoles is a shame, as creating levels on the fly could have worked nicely, but the puzzles themselves should be enough to justify a purchase to those who have never played the game before.
