During Nintendo's latest mini Direct presentation, it was confirmed the sixth official DLC fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would be from ARMS.
As fun as this new fighting game was when it originally launched in 2017, not everybody got around to playing it. That's why Nintendo is offering Switch Online members a free trial of the game from now until 6th April.
This should give any newcomers enough time to familiarise themselves with the quirky cast of characters. North American players can also participate in an Online Open on 4th April. It's free to enter, and the top eight players will receive 2500 Gold Points.
While this is technically ARMS debut in the Smash series, there have been spirit events in the past featuring characters like Spring Man. The ARMS fighter will arrive in Smash Bros. Ultimate this June.
Did you play ARMS when it originally arrived on the Switch? Which character would you like to see in Smash? Share your thoughts below.

Downloaded it already. I really like this promotion. I downloaded Mario tennis when it was free as well, altho I have no intention of buying either...
Downloaded and tried. Definitely not a game for me lol, I HATE how the motion controls are here, but I'm glad Nintendo are doing this kind of stuff (although they shouldn't keep it for online players).
Edit: Don't get me wrong guys, it may be an awesome game, but I don't like the genre much, I tried it for the motion controls (with this quarentine, you know...) and didn't like it. That's it hehe. Personal opinion. Give it a try, you all!
@the_beaver the motion controls in it are quite good. However, some people have the tendency to waggle, which is NOT how it should be played. It’s better to be deliberate. It also controls well without motion controls.
@the_beaver I play with the pro controller and it is quite nice. Love the music. Love the art direction. Love the character designs. Love this game.

Assist Trophy Spring Man: Am I nothing to you?
I don't play play Smash Bros.
I play ARMS.
#Springman4ARMS 🤟
I knew something was up the moment they announced a new Arms tournament 2 years after the last one. It made no sense for them to revive ARMS out of the blue for no reason, so I knew something fishy was going on with that. Now it all makes sense.
I wonder if this will be another set of “internet rules” thrown out the window when it comes to who gets to be in Smash or not.
Amazing trial Nintendo, yall always have so many genius ideals, it's refreshing.
I am the father of an active 9 year old who is stuck inside most of the day due to lockdown. This is a MASSIVE WINNER in our household. I won't pay £50.00 on the eShop for this game, but if they banged it down to £25.00 I would pick it up for him alone.
Actually the motion controls do work really well once you understand them. Online battling is really cool and I think actually this promotion could be a nice way to reintroduce the series to people who missed it or passed at the launch of the Switch.
@the_beaver for a long time this was my sons most played game on Switch, he got the quirks of the motion controls but he was REALLY good using a pro controller! Give it another try 👍
I only possess a Lite model, so I didn't think this game was compatible with my material.
This kind of promotion made me try it and guess what : this game is really quite good, even without the motion controls ! I even read an article saying that the gameplay is even more precise this way, including this soft in a list of "games that you should prefer to play in handheld mode".
Now I totally consider buying it ! (and I'm also thinking about splatoon 2 now !)
Such an underrated game
@Anti-Matter I'd love to fight you in ARMS as we're not too far apart, so should have a good connection. I know how much you love the game though so I've a feeling you would beat me up big time haha
Feels like it kind of has to be Spring-Man. But maybe they'll go with Max Brass
@OorWullie
Watch out my Hydra, Parasol and Revolver weapons as i oftenly use them. 😜
@jahasnell I played mainly for the motion controls, I must say I'm not a fighting games' fan, but I got dissappointed by them. I played it also without them, and it was so much better, but I don't see myself playing the game like that hehe. Just because I don't like the genre.
I would love Twintelle!
The question is though:
Is it to promote the Smash DLC?
Or is the DLC there to promote ARMS?
Or... are both supposed to promote each other at the same time!?
So glad to see Nintendo giving ARMS a boost. I think a lot of people missed it the first time around, and it's such a fun game.
For people who are stuck at home with family members, this is one of the greatest local multiplayer family games. My kid and I played it every weekend religiously for over a year.
Its a fun game, but it needs something like a storymode.
@the_beaver Agreed. I wanted to like this game so much! But it's a 5 at best. It was very frustrating to me. I played it all weekend last time they did the free event, and left going: Never want to play this again.
The games 3 years old...it should just be free for NSO subscribers.
