Update (Thu 2nd Jan, 14:10 GMT): Nintendo has now shared an English-language version of the new Animal Crossing trailer. Feel free to give it another watch above and get stupidly hyped for a second time!
We've grabbed a screenshot of the English version boxart for you, too:
Original Article (Wed 1st Jan, 2020 01:45 GMT): The biggest release Switch owners have to look forward to early on in 2020 is the lifestyle simulation Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Nintendo showed us a substantial amount of the game at E3 2019, but unfortunately we've got very few updates about this upcoming release since then.
At this point we'll take any news about it we can get, and today it's in the form of a brand-new Japanese commercial. Although it is only half a minute, in that time frame we see Tom Nook and the Nooklings showing an audience of animals footage of the villagers living out their lives on the game's deserted island.
Within this audience you can see Isabelle, confirming the mayor's secretary from Animal Crossing: New Leaf is returning in this new outing. We guess we'll just have to wait and see what purpose or role she will serve. In the dying seconds of the commercial we also get a brief glimpse at the game's Japanese box art. See for yourself:
Are you as excited as Isabelle is about this next entry in the Animal Crossing series? Comment down below.

We need a direct already! I wanna see the inevitable animal crossing switch lite!
I’m hoping that the game offers meaningful Amiibo support, since so many Amiibo figures and cards have been made for Animal Crossing already.
Isabelle in the trailer. 😀
Isabelle Return: Final Fantasy XIII....
Ooopsie.... Wrong title. 😆
Should be Isabelle Return: Animal Crossing New Horizon.
Isabelle is confirmed?
I was certain that they weren't gonna ditch Isabelle this soon after her introduction and rise to superstardom, but I suppose it's nice to have confirmation nonetheless.
ISABELLE IS BACK
GIVE ME YOUR PHONE
It's-it's so, HD...
So, beautiful...
So they've finally decided to confirm Isabelle's inclusion, that's nice.
There's subtle details in there too, Isabelle is at Tom Nook's holiday pitch in her autumn work clothes, but the cover art shows her in a new outfit. It suggests that she may not be in a work related role, but is on vacation herself.
This reminds me... I haven't even touched the "Welcome Amiibo" update of New Leaf. I'm such a top mayor. Lucky our village doesn't do elections.
I'm ready to sink another 500+ hours into this series with New Horizons.
I still owe Tom Nook money from the previous time.
@CarpeDiem
It’s best suited to us over 40’s but I think you’ll love it all the same. 😉
Let's go, this trailer is hype! We're approaching 90 days, people! I can't wait for the new entry in the Animal Crossing series.
Edit: 79 days lol
oh my gosh this is too cute ; A ; i really want this game -ugh
And so, Tom Nook's cunning plan proceeds. Soon all shall be indebted to him. Again.
Looking awesome, glad to see Isabelle confirmed.
Wow, that commercial told you absolutely nothing about the game.
@CarpeDiem "Not sure if it will be my cup of tea being a 36 year old guy..."
I'm a 48-year old guy, and Animal Crossing New Leaf was my most played 3DS game at close to 500-hours.
@CarpeDiem
I am 36 years old man also and have been playing Animal Crossing New Leaf 3DS for 6 years since 22 December 2013 with total gameplay hours more than 1500 hours.
But my record has been broken by Grandma Audrey (88) who has played for 5 years with more than 3500 hours gameplay.
I hope there’s a limited edition full fat switch released too. I’d love a Blathers joycon
I love the art style of the series but I've never played one of the games. Maybe I'll try it this time. Not even sure what the game is honestly. I tried pokemon in 2019. Maybe AC in 2020.
60fps please Nintendo
I love Animal Crossing, but I'm pretty burnt out on crafting games. So I'm actually not really looking forward to this too much so far. I hope that changes.
This game is the reason I bought my Switch on launch day.
@peanutbuttercup I am still holding out hope for a standard special edition Switch, since they are pushing the new couch co-op mechanics in the game (which the Lite would not really be suited for, with a smaller screen, no kickstand and the need for an extra set of joy-cons). My launch-day Switch needs replacing soon - fans kick in all the time, overheats even in handheld mode with some games, and the battery life is not what it used to be after >1000 hours of play - but I’m waiting until March simply to see if I can finally snag myself an AC-themed console.
@CarpeDiem I said the same thing. Then I started playing Animal Crossing New Leaf a few years ago. For the first time the other day I checked my Activity Log, I've been playing for over 1600 hours! Now I play every night at bed time for a little bit to unwind. Im also 10 years older than you! I hope this game is as fun as new leaf...!
@Kohaku that's great! I hope the same villagers are available as well. I'm sure they are. I'll try to get my favorites, like Kitt, Agent S, and Ruby. Too bad they didn't have an option where if let's say there's 12 villagers, you could pick like 3 or 4 of them. That would be fun.
@mist it wouldn't matter. I guess I never saw the 30 or 60 difference
@Mountain_Man yah, it was a bit of a teaser...
@CarpeDiem you will absolutely love it. I have known several adult men who loved it including the owner of a chain of video game stores! 😀
@RainbowGazelle I got to agree with you about "crafting". It adds a "too much work" element to a game when you have to craft. It's more a pain in the rear. That was the only element I didn't like about this game when I first saw the trailer.
This confirms my Lolly is back. Yayyyy. I have her in New Leaf, she is so cute. And I am intrigued as to what role Isabelle will have 😄😄
There is something completely euphoric about AC games but in a totally different way, I tend to play a LOT of fast action type games and AC provides this ultimate chill yet still provides a TON of potential thrill. This game comes out right around my birthday and I will be 47 and one month away from my Cancer Survival Date in April of three years!!! I'm so grateful for this time. When I was diagnosed I was so shocked and it was right before E3 and I was hoping and praying to at lease see something of Metroid Prime 4. Metroid is hands down my favorite Nintendo franchise. My wife even wanted to call Nintendo and ask if I could see or play it. Well we all know what happened after that. I hope we all get to see something this E3. Bless everyone in the new year!!!
@DAHstroy It is actually quite a bit better than that.
We are much less than 90 days away now.

Very excited for this, really looking forward to playing with kids a it'll be their first AC game.
Just looks awesome, miles ahead of New Leaf in terms of visuals, can't wait for this, ever since we had the Wii U animal crossing plaza those animals in HD have always been a dream come true, and these will look even better, loved new leaf but the 3DS hardware was just too dated.
so cute !!! so exciting
@Smug43 Great story, and congratulations on survival!
Bless you in the new year, also, friend!
I love this thread, I am another gamer looking forward to this game.
Loving New Leaf so much, I am trying to adjust my expectations to a new game--similar, but different. And I can't wait to see it on my tv and in hand held. It is a good time to be a nintendo fan!
@Obitokamui64
Some other series you might want to check out are Mario, Zelda and Splatoon.
@Fandabidozi
Lol. I feel the sarcasm.....😕
It's utterly unreal how much of an impact Nintendo has had on my lifem. It sounds so stupid but it's real and I balled so hard when I heard they scraped MP4. I mean oh my I was devastated. I'm kind of a ticking time bomb so to speak. Then it occurred to me they aren't making this game just for me. for everyone. I have a feeling Prime 4 is going to re-set the stage for the franchise and literally blow peoples minds as much as BOTW did possibly more. @dugan
I would love to have Animal Crossing as a physical copy but at the same time I know it's a game I'll want to start quickly and inbetween other games, so it'll be digital.
@Fandabidozi @CarpeDiem I'm 35 and a pretty big fan of Animal Crossing. I've owned every game since the GameCube with the exception of the horrible Happy Home Designer and it's been great watching the series evolve through the years.
Wakes up
Checks Date
Goes back to sleep for 3 months
Request to Nintendo.
Give us a better way to get access to hi-res screenshots without farting about with the MicroSD card.
Keeping a diary with the 3DS was pain enough, but at least that was a big chunky SDProper, not one of those fiddly micro ones that I always feel is going to snap, every time it "clicks" into place.
Day one purchase! My niece will be thrilled to play this!
Both, Animal Crossing Plaza (Wii U) and Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival (Wii U), showcased how good Animal Crossing looks in HD.
Please please please let me use Ammibo cards to have villagers move in. #Moose
This has been a long time coming. I've been waiting for a new Animal Crossing for a very long time. With the Switch I'll finally get the best of both worlds, being able to play portably and on the TV.
@nintendork64
My first was Wild World, which I’ve never been able to get into despite multiple tries.
Picked up New Leaf in July 2014 and have spent to date 753 hours playing on my main copy and easily another couple hundred on my other two copies. 🤭
@CarpeDiem "that’s some dedication. Epic"
To put things in perspective, that's 500-hours over a 5-year period, so an average of 100-hours per year which breaks down to about 20-minutes a day.
Actually, that still kinda sounds like an obsessive amount. LOL
