Nintendo's online service for the Switch has been up and running for more than a year now. In that time, modern titles like Tetris 99 have been made available as well as plenty of old-school games from the NES and SNES era.
Although the service has already got more than 10 million subscribers, Nintendo is always eager for more Switch users to sign up and try it out, or extend their online stay. To keep people online over the holidays, the My Nintendo store in America is offering a seven day trial for 100 platinum points.
This item will be available until 31st January next year and can be redeemed one time. My Nintendo members can use this reward even if they've already redeemed a Nintendo Switch Online free 7-day trial from the Nintendo eShop previously. Once you redeem this reward, you have until 2nd February to redeem the code itself.
Here are the finer details:
-The trial cannot be used with Nintendo Accounts that already have an active Individual Membership or Family Membership.
-Your trial will automatically convert into a monthly membership at the end of the trial period, unless you turn off automatic renewal before the end of the trial.-Upon conversion of your trial to a full membership, and on an ongoing basis thereafter, we will charge you the membership amount unless and until you turn off automatic renewal. Credit card/PayPal account required for users age 18 and up.
Once you've redeemed the code on My Nintendo, head over to the Nintendo eShop on your Switch and select the "Enter Code" option to enter your download code and begin the trial period.
Will you be redeeming this reward? Comment below.

I would actually really like this to come to Australia/Europe (and hopefully it can be redeemed as many times as one wishes!).
I don't see much value, really, in NSO, (all the power to you 10 million delirious paying customers out there!) but on the odd occasion that I may want to be able to play online (to, say, unlock a new Tetris 99 theme or participate in Raids in Pokémon Sword/Shield), I wouldn't mind plonking down 100 platinum coins every now and then.
Besides, it's not as if Nintendo are offering much else.
They should let current members extend our memberships....
Nice, I wanted to try the SNES app, will try Star Fox 2 and maybe Super Metroid
I’m still bummed they got rid of the vouchers. Those should be a permanent perk of NSO.
It seems like they've removed the ability to change the country/region of your main account. The option is still there within the Nintendo account profile settings but it's greyed out and can't be selected. I thought it might be because I've got funds left in my account but nope, it's not that. I have changed it lots of times in the past without any problems.
@Silly_G As mentioned in the article, it is a temporary promotion until January 31st that can only be redeemed once.
@Coolie : I never suspected it would have been available in perpetuity, merely that it would have been nice if that had been the case, as redeeming 100 platinum coins here and there for the odd 7-day membership would be preferable for me than a long-term paid membership.
Nevertheless, I would certainly take advantage of the offer if it comes to Australia.
I’m willing to purchase this for that anyone wants it. My plat points are collecting dust
isn't this that scam that bets on people not remembering to turn off the auto renewal?
This is good news for people who just wanted to play through the new selection of games they are dropping in December. I never used my platinum points for those awesome gulp desktop wallpapers they were offering.
@ancientlii at least they send you an email with instructions to turn it off. it would be scam if they would not inform you about that auto-renew thing ;D
@eRaz0r dark pattern then
Just redeemed my 3 months after grabbing OVERWATCH for $25.00 on Black Friday. : /
What botters me for a nintendo site you didnt anounce the new snes and nes games coming to online

@elhozzo
Thx, I feel stupid
I did the other free trial they offer, and it saved me $20, because I was able to discover at zero cost to me how awful this service is! Thanks Nintendo! (And no thanks!)
How can I use just the free trial and not have to pay anything?
@ancientlii any one who plays games more than casually should have plenty of practice & understanding on how to turn off auto billing.
@victordamazio go to the options in eshop the minute after you redeem the code & find the option to turn off automatic billing (it's easy to find. It's under the online membership section, i believe). You'll have to put a credit card on file, but you can remove it from your account afterwards though.
@OorWullie i didn't know that was possible. I've always had separate accounts. I think I'd be too worried they'd pull something & lock me out of my games (reinstate a region lock or something, tho i know that's just my paranoia). I only spend money on my US account. The others were for demos.
