The Co-Op Cooking Game Cannibal Cuisine Launches On Switch Later This Month

How is this even a thing?? I'm not liking a lot of themes that have been appearing in video games as of late.

Id rather just play overcooked, again.

This looks the kind of like the same but worse.

Not intended to be a pun, but man, this is an example of a game in bad taste.

@Spoony_Tech Better in my opinion than all the deer/bear hunting games out there, and dare I say fishing games. I even struggle with the likes of Dauntless/Monster Hunter and it's 'Slay with friends' approach. For me, anything with animals done in bad-taste is far worse than all the human against human stuff, since animals wouldn't chose to fight us/get involved.

At least this game is meant to be non-realistic/cartoony – but yes it does look a bit ott.

And before anyone gets all twitchy in the comments, yes we all know 'it is just a game' and no ones getting hurt.

This is just an opinion about what game themes we personally can/can't stomach – and not a statement about what is right or wrong.

We all do 'us' and that's fine.

Sounds like some people are getting old. Not excluding myself, the gore in Mortal Kombat feels like it is just too much in my opinion.

I'm all for beating people up even in GTA, but eating and cooking humans is a bit of a turn off for me.

I think it is too much now for Mortal Kombat--when it was still the 90s, there was enough realism to allow us to accept it as escapism--but the ultra level detail at this point could be macabre humor or splatterstick (splatterfest+slapstick), however, it just comes off as shock value.

To me, there was something artistic about the violence that explained more about the characters in MK2 and their signature killing techniques--Liu Kang and Johnny Cage or Scorpion or Sonya Blade then versus the extreme dismemberment now doesn't seem very distinct between the characters.

Any character could dismember one another with the same level of violence, but nothing feels distinct--just a lot of the blood and guts, but no "heart" so to speak. You could see Sonya's kiss of death or Scorpion's flame breath as something they would do, but now? Everyone is basically a different setting of a blender or wood chipper.

I think some of you are missing the point of why people are disgusted by this. It's not the over the top violence/cannibalism and gallows humor so much as the blatant racism.

I'm really amazed this game was approved for the eShop at all.

It's just a game guys no need to get so worked up over nothing. This games not my cup of sweet tea so it's not for me. I remember some cartoons with salesmen being cooked in the jungle by natives in my youth and I'm sure it's happened several times to Bugs and plenty others. If you don't like it then ignore it. It's not like they intended to offend anyone but thought it would be a hilarious parody of a popular game.

To each his own, I wouldn't want them to remove the game just cause me or a group of people like me don't like it.

@GameOtaku Just because you enjoyed racist cartoons when you were a kid doesn't mean they weren't racist (nor does it make you a bad person, as you likely didn't know any better). Even Warner Bros acknowledges that those cartoons were racist and has added contextual disclaimers to them on the DVD sets (which I think is a much better idea than banning/vaulting them. We need to own the ugliness of our past culture)

It was a different time to be sure it was cartoons shown in the 40s possibly 50s that came into public domain VHS in the early 90s. It's still a stereotype I see fairly often (just think of all the jungle adventure movies you've seen and I'm positive you will see something offensive). Some may be offended but just like my example many will not make the connection unless you point it out that it is.

@Tandoori Honestly I don't agree that this is racist. Sure it may be bad stereo-typing which some seem to consider a great evil these days, but that is absolutely not the same thing as racism. It's some weird new idea that they are one and the same. It's utter nonsense and I believe it is a viewpoint that does more harm than good by making a big deal out of the small differences between us.

Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another for some stupid reason or another, and it normally manifests as some form of irrational hatred, or ignorant view. I can't see that in this game – even though I don't much like or theme the look of the game.

It is a plain truth that cannibalism has existed throughout the world, and notably in history it has been observed in the South Seas Islands and parts of South America, as well as parts of Indonesia/Borneo. That's a fact, not racism, and you are in the same category of extreme view as those who think putting Mario in a Sombrero was racist. It's political correctness at its worst.

It is as simple as this – do you take issue in any way and on any level with someone else because of their race or associated culture? If yes then you are, at that time and with that state of mind, a racist. If no, then you're not.

Sure, it could be said it's not particularly skilful of the developers, and someone such as yourself might argue it should be removed from the eShop. That's fine I guess – but it does not mean your view is right.

I only challenge such views because I'm genuinely a bit scared of how much everyone seems to be calling everyone else racist these days. I've been around a while, and I've not seen the increase of calling out such things 'as' racist as helping the world unite much. But maybe it does help - who knows. Anyway, love to you, and I think we are on the same page of having good intention. I apologise if I went too far in my challenging your comments.

@Severian MK11 was the first MK I have played since Deception way back and I have to say, there are some very unique and creative (and yes, some disgusting) fatalities. It's not all just dismemberment. If you have the stomach for it, I would recommend trying it out. Definitely the best MK I have ever played, even if the Switch version is inferior.

@brunojenso I have to agree with you. Idk if we should really continue a discussion about racism on a gaming site so I'll leave my opinion out of this, but one can see that you're just trying to be constructive, not defensive of anything anyone might find inappropriate. And that, I really respect.

Seriously, what are the people complaining about? You think cannibalism shown in a funny way is bad, but look how successful "real" war simulations like CoD, BF and so on are. That's crazy! War killed so many people, yet gamers enjoy replaying it over and over again.
So chill out, it's a game!

@StefanN Cheers - I'd forgotten about this little back 'n too. I'd imagine this game didn't do great anyway, so the debate probably amounted to no more than farts in the wind anyway - but we say what we feel we need to say at the time I guess.

Struggling to see the issue here... it’s a cartoon... fictional, I’m pretty sure I can take this for what it is in terms of just a silly game and not some representation of real life. Unlike as others have pointed out, COD etc which do draw directly from wars.

Is it a tad on the gory side? Yeah, but then so is Binding of Isaac is it not? Maybe I’m the wrong person to comment given that I far prefer Graveyard keeper to Stardew Valley.
