The Pokémon Company is promoting the release of Sword and Shield on the Nintendo Switch in Japan with the assistance of Google Lens.
In case you didn't know, this is a mobile application that allows you to "search what you see" and "understand the world around you" using just a camera or a photo, according to the official description on Google Play.
If you scan the Japanese physical box of Pokémon Sword or Shield, the augmented tech will then play a special video over the top of the artwork.
Have you used this mobile app before? Did you even purchase a hard copy of Sword or Shield? Comment below.

This works for the US copies too for people wondering
It looks like the layar app from back in the day, needless to say, it wasn’t a success

That's pretty cool. Pikachu is so cute.
Cool feature, didn't know about Google Lens.
Nice. I think they've been wanting this kind of thing to take off for a while. They had a lot AR stuff at a mobile Pokemon camp I went to back in the day. I like this kind of tech! AR for me is preferred to VR. Now, we jusy need to stop destroying nature so we can actually live long enough for these kinds of things to be common place. Go plant a tree.
I have not used google for more than 10 years now. google is SJW central, and they data mine you. So no thanks.
I downloaded Google lens just to try this out and didn't work for me is it just for the jap and us versions or has anyone else got it to work on a UK version
The technology is interesting but it seems like something that should be in a dystopian sci-fi future.
