Sadly, depressingly not unexpected.
Bumped by the most overhyped game of the year and the crap series that never stops being the poster child for games that ultimately suck or are painfully mediocre and lazy retreads, but are carried by their fanbase (see also Madden).

Death Stranding is no doubt a unique game in that its core design is supposed to be dull, repetitive and arduous. Personally I can do without 40 hours of despair and frustration.

Death stranding bah! I hear it's basically a package delivery simulator with extremely long Kojima style cutscenes. One of those games where you sit there going... okay can i play now or what?

Even Wii U had a Call of Duty game, I really honestly would like one on Switch, but one made for the Switch, not a PS4 port stuffed onto the device.

Death Stranding however doesn't interest me at all. To each their own, but I'm looking forward to Pokemon far more. Or honestly, almost anything else.

@KBuckley27 A game that people don't like isn't gonna sell millions. Most people don't "hate-buy" things. Buying games isn't like downloading f2p mobile games.

@Heavyarms55 millions are buying Death Stranding out of curiosity you don't know if people are going to like it or not nobody will know if they like Death Standing or not unless they actually play the game for themselves

@KBuckley27 I agree that people are buying to find out, but if the game ends up being really bad, it's going to tank. It's not some indie game no one knows about, it's one of the most built up games in years. If it flops, we'll all know, within a couple hours of launch.

I seriously doubt it will be bad, there's just too much that has gone into it. But I also doubt it will live up to the hype.

we wont find out "hours after launch" if its a flop or not that information will be given in a week or two time yes there are people who how played the game and don't like it but there are just as many who enjoy Death Standing and those who haven't and wont play it but want to hate on it just because and to be honnet no game lives up to "Hype" look at Kingdom Hearts 3

@gamer89 although true, this kind of game isn’t the type that usually sales much (although Nintendo prove it is wrong time and time again with their literally sport games)

I contributed to Mario Vs Sonic. The rugbys at least as good as Mario Tennis Aces. Too bad it needs preset playlists and custom playlists. Either way people are tired of this series without great reviews. I like it though.

There's a few naysayers here but death Stranding is the best game I've played this year and one of the best open world games I've played

If you take a look at the reviews, death stranding is clearly divisive. People seem to either love or hate it. (even after ignoring the trolls on both sides) which is a good thing in my book. I di not like if games get watered down to appeal to everyone (unless it is optional, e.g. More difficulty levels)

Hard fall for Luigi. But (for me) it is a perfect game to have with Death Standing. Heavy + Light

Death Stranding is superb, it should be number one. It's that rarest of things - genuinely AAA production values married to an original idea.

@Zeldafan79 Maybe you should try playing it. It's not for people with short attention spans, but if, for example you'd sooner watch Apocalypse Now than a super hero kids movie, then you'll love it. It's cerebral, intelligent, original, and brave. And it works.

I'll play another Kojima game when he can actually provide good gameplay and a story that isn't self-indulgent, bloated tripe.

Games like Luigi's Mansion are silly romps, but at least respect your time. And hell, if you're afraid your friends will judge you for games like Luigi's Mansion then Witcher 3 and Red Dead provide infinitely better gameplay/story combos than any Kojima game.
