Squanch Games, established by Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland in 2016, has announced it is bringing its comedic and foul-mouthed adventure game Trover Saves the Universe to the Nintendo Switch later this month, on 28th November. If you buy the game when it is released, you'll get a special launch discount of 20%.
Here's a bit about the game itself:
Your dogs have been dognapped by a beaked lunatic named Glorkon who stuffed them into his eye holes and is using their life essence to destroy the universe. You're partnered with Trover, a little purple eye-hole monster who isn’t a huge fan of working or being put in the position of having to save the universe. He’s also not that big a fan of you quite frankly, and neither am I. (Jk, you’re great)
Only you and Trover can save everything in this bizarre comedy adventure, created by Justin Roiland!
The existing versions of Trover Saves the Universe were designed with VR in mind, and while nothing about it has been mentioned for the latest versions of the game, we would love to see at least some Labo VR compatibility included in the upcoming Switch release. We won't get our hopes up, though.
While we're here, check out this ad for the game that was never actually used – but be warned, it's a bit ew.

I played this on PS4 and thought it was pretty funny
I've heard that you need an incredibly high IQ to understand Mr. Roiland's brand of humor. Maybe I should watch some Rick and Morty to become more intelligent before I play this.
We need Accounting too.
@Toy_Link Start with this one:
@Toy_Link correction, you need to be a moron to understand it
@BENDsli insert simpson's "That's the joke" image
I used to like them but their politics are a huge turn off.
Pedophilia no thanks.
I like Rick & Morty, and this looks fun. Hope there's a motion control aiming option.
Played this on my PSVR and had a blast, good that more people are getting to experience it. Though I do think the VR made the game a little more special.
I’m getting this. Looked good from what I saw on PS4
@Toy_Link
I disagree. Rick & Morty is exaggerated by it's fans and it's haters. I think it's well written with a good mix of crude and clever humor, stuffed with a lot of familiar sci-fi tropes. I recommend checking it out for yourself. You'll know if it's to your taste after just any one episode.
@BENDsli That's the joke. It's the fanbase that makes it seem like there's something deeper into this show, and I hate how thanks to Rick and Morty, adult animation and mostly all animation now has to be "edgy" to appeal to an older audience.
@Jaalsky I'm sorry what?
NICE! I've been waiting for this one.
20% discount? COOL!
@Jaalsky Okay I understand that the show gets somewhat political and it's reasonable that you disagree, but like that last part was reeeeeally jumping to conclusions.
Yes, the theme of pedophilia is explored in one of the episodes (The Creepy Beanstalk King) but the pedo himself is painted as the bad guy, obviously.
I loved Accounting+ and Rick and Morty VR, but I think those games were especially fun due to the VR so I may have to get this on PS4.
@Chlocean what episode was that?
I was going to buy it for PS VR, but I guess I prefer it on Switch now. So cool to see so many good games being ported to our beloved Nintendo console.
@Jaalsky As far as I saw, all their political statements were fairly on point. Don't think they ever glorified the bad guys, in fact, in the one you're talking about the guy dies in the end. It was quite a scary episode, when you put yourself in Morty's shoes. One of my favourite lines is: "Well, obviously it appears the lower tier of this society is being manipulated using sex and technology by a hidden ruling class, sound familiar?", in an episode where it highlights the affects of bad parenting (though, that concept is a recurring one throughout the series). Also, another episode shows how poorly minimum wage workers can be treated by sociopathic CEOs and such. It's interesting, because what you mention actually happens a lot in the real world as we're starting to see now, especially by power trippers. It's not something to shy away from.
@Toy_Link Not really, actually it has it's lodgings in parodying popular culture. A very basic brush with quantum physics and maybe add in a period of your life where you may question your existence/entire conscious perception and every joke and concept is easy to get.
That David Firth trailer was unexpected. At least it's not on the same level as the video he made for that bizarre Aphex Twins song.
@Boo-Thang This EXACTLY. The show toes the line between being VERY clever and smart, and also VERY lowbrow and silly. I think that's why so many people have latched onto it - it satisfies people who want a little more intelligence in their comfortingly "stupid" humor. And yes, sometimes it veers too far into absurdist lowbrow territory (ie. Pickle Rick), but it's often ingenious and inventive writing shouldn't be discounted.
The toxic vocal minority of the fanbase can be complete garbage though, which I feel turns a lot of people off.
Honestly, I see more "LOL U NEED A HIGH IQ AM I RITE GUYZ" memeing about Rick and Morty fans on a regular basis than I've ever seen actual fans be obnoxious about it. People just like to bash on things others enjoy to make themselves feel better.
@Chlocean Pretty sure that dude is referring to the creators being outspoken progressives, which he thinks is a bad thing because conspiracy theorists on the internet told him all liberals run pedophilia rings in their nearest pizza places.
@Dakotastomp "Meseeks and Destroy," If you'll believe it. I think there's some sort of "A plot" that somehow overshadows the "B Plot"
@Chlocean Oh dang, that was way back when. I may have to rewatch it.
Looks great and I'm very interested. The 20% discount is a good idea too, does anybody know anything about the final price?
Looks bananas and I want it
This never really felt like much more than a traditional third person platformer with a bit of simple/basic VR stuff implemented injected into it, as opposed a proper for-VR game that really takes advantage of the medium/platform, so this seem about par for the course to me.
Honestly, I found it a bit meh and by the numbers generic to be honest, despite the silly humour and zany characters maybe making think it might be otherwise at first glance.
@Chlocean not referencing the show with pedophilia. I am referring to his skit on raping a baby.
@Jayofmaya
@Dakotastomp
@Jaalsky I do remember seeing that skit. I think Justin comedically overstepped his boundaries of what can be a joke. I hope he apologized for that at some point because he clearly wanted people to be "triggered" by it which is just really uncool.
I think implying Justin Roiland is a pedophile for making a joke in poor taste is unwarranted, however I can understand why you say that.
Lots of comedians make bad jokes, every once in a while. I think those comedians should be judged based on their character now, as opposed to who they were at the beginning of their careers.
@Chlocean raping a BABY in diapers is never a joke. Not cringe. Not controversial. And the apologie was unacceptable and pathetic.
You can pretty much joke about anything else and there is a crowd. Not that.
@Jaalsky I think, however, that sketch was made by Dan Harmon, not Justin Roiland. I just looked it up and I thought it was Justin Roiland, but it was Dan Harmon who made that sketch, so he technically didn't work on Trover Saves the Universe.
@fid Liberal, conservative, both have paedophiles in their ranks. Not a conspiracy theory, but in fact, obvious.
@Jaalsky Not heard of that one, what's it called?
