Update (Wed 20th Nov, 2019 18:00 GMT): The news that the western launch of Samurai Shodown wouldn't be happening until 2020 had some people assuming the that the Japanese version – pencilled in for 12th December – would also be impacted.
However, that's not the case and you can pre-load the Japanese version (Samurai Spirits) now. The standard edition is ¥6,280 for a limited period (regular price is ¥6,980) and will gobble up 9.3 GB of storage. A Deluxe Edition is also available for preload and costs ¥7,800 for a limited period (the regular price is ¥9,180).
Original Story (Tue 19th Nov, 2019 01:45 GMT): SNK's Samurai Shodown reboot arrived earlier this year on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It's due out in Japan on the Switch this December, so when will Nintendo fans in the west be able to play the latest entry in this long-running fighting series?
According to a release window announcement trailer published by Nintendo, it'll be at some point during the first quarter of 2020. That's any time between January and March next year.
Just like Japan, if you pre-order the game from the Switch eShop, you'll receive a free digital copy of the 1999 Neo Geo Pocket Color game, Samurai Shodown! 2. It's the game's very first port since its original release and can be played in docked handheld and tabletop mode.

I loved playing samurai showdown. I have fond memories of kicking my brothers butt.
Why SNK likes to pretend that the Neo Geo Pocket does not exist is a mystery.

That's cool but seeing that clip of it in action made me think twice. I already got this game for PS4 and it's good but the NGPC version of SSII looks disappointing on the Switch with such a tiny screen space. I don't think it would be double dipping.
Oh most definitely. Like a kid in a candy store, I’m gobbling up all the high quality titles that make the jump to hybrid gaming.

For those who don't know, Samurai Shodown! 2 on the NeoGeo Pocket Color is not a handheld port of the arcade version of Samurai Shodown II, it is a handheld port of the NeoGeo Hyper 64 version of Samurai Shodown 64 II: Warrior's Rage (the one that feature Shiki, Asura, and Yuga and not Nicotine, Cham Cham, and Mizuki). Nice that Switch got this game considering Shiki was one of the character in the newer game.
What about the free Season Pass every other platform got? >:/
@KitsuneNight Hard same. I played Mega Man Battle & Fighters almost nonstop when I was a kid. I'd pick it up again in a heartbeat.
If the port holds up well, I'll pick it up. The SS!2 will be a nice incentive.

Dunno but I expected Nintendo DS and 3DS collections of their best games for YEARS to no avail. The NGPC had an ungodly amount of quality/quantity titles and I owned a complete collection of all US/UK carts at one point (plastic clam shell UK Cotton being my favorite rare title).
Why there isn't a proper collection yet still confuses me. I want to play Metal Slug 1st and 2nd Mission along with Cardfighter's Clash and Biomotor Unitron (I enjoyed this title way too much during that gaming bliss period of Fall 1999).

Cool. I got an original NGPC cart. I'll be playing that again once the Analogue Pocket is released. We'll see about the modern game later, if I'm getting it, I'm getting it physical, so no bonus for me I guess. Still a neat little extra for those who do get it digital.
@TurboTEF I had a neo geo and remember they stopped releasing games not soon after in UK. CARD FIGHTERS CLASH. I loved that game was good. First time I heard anyone mention it👍 would be cool to play again!

Sounds a lot like how the pre-order of the Switch port of Dragon Ball Fighter Z was set to come with a digital version of DBZ: Super Butoden from the SNES.

Okay so we know that this game will come to Switch in early 2020 but when will the Samurai Shodown Collection be released? It's almost approaching December and we still had no word on a release date for that collection yet.
@retro_player_22 I think they said some time ago that the collection (in which I'm interested too) will come early 2020 too. The thing here is modern Samurai Shodown is suffering some kind of delay. Maybe they release them together...
I'll get the Japan Physical. I have a robust import collection for switch.
Fine by me, I'll probably get this sometime next summer anyways. Or maybe next Black Friday. Certainly not on release.

Been playing it on Stadia today. It's good fun.
Sucks to have to wait so long for the PC and Switch versions to btw. Gonna get it on Switch first (only if its physical) because it'll probably have a more robust online player base.
