If you've been a fan of Pokémon since the very beginning, you're almost guaranteed to remember the emotional scene waiting for you below.
Way back in the show's first season which originally aired in 1998 (feel old yet?), an episode called Pikachu's Goodbye found its way to our screens. Even now, more than 20 years later, we can't help but feel the odd tear roll down our cheeks as Ash tells Pikachu to leave. If you have a deep childhood connection with these characters, it's genuinely heartbreaking.
The Pokémon Company decided to force everyone into reliving this childhood trauma on Twitter, and Ash's voice actress at the time, Veronica Taylor, commented on the scene in question. She notes that this was "just one of the many incredibly emotional scenes" she worked on, before revealing that she was actually nine months pregnant at the time.
Now, this writer won't pretend to know anything about what it's like to be pregnant, but it's hard to imagine pulling off such an emotionally demanding scene during such a time. Hats off to you, Veronica; we'll never stop bawling our eyes out at this.
Between this, the Butterfree scene, and Ash's 'moment' in the first movie, we're actually surprised we even survived our childhoods at all.

how is this news?
Ah, yeah, Howie Sdiese-Noos, brother of Slawinder "Slo" Noos-Dae.
Man, these clips from the original anime always hit me right in the childhood.
Although, personally, the episode that really broke me was the one where Satoshi chose to let his Butterfree go. It was more poignant because, unlike this one, you knew the two were parting ways permanently (even as a tot, I knew they weren't ditching Pikachu, the mascot of the show, lol).
Wow, I forgot watching this when I as younger. It was sad but I don't remember if I had a tear or two. :/
To the people asking why this is news, this site doesn't only cover news and never has. Nor is there any reason that should be the case. And for a Nintendo fan site, bringing stuff from around the web that might interest a Nintendo fan is kinda the point.
You think you have a point but you don't lmao.
Does it matter?
I always assumed she was lightly pregnant, so this is big news to me
Oh lord the “best friend” song too!! 🥺🥺
When I first read this article, I thought it said Heavenly pregnant.
Man i wanna be a child again. Being a grownup is mad stupid and not fun
My kids were just literally watching this episode this weekend. I can still sing the words to the song they played during this episode, of course I had a CD of Pokemon songs that I listened to all the time. I also had the love song that Misty sang to Ash while he was sleeping memorized from the same CD. I was in Grade 12.
I was pretty cool...
Mewtwo Strikes Back's "moment" too...
I love/hate getting teary eyed at those
Bye Bye Butterfree is the episode that got me.
Yeah, I remember watching that episode on CITV. Remember getting emotional to it too. Can't believe the series of Pokémon I watched is 20 years old now.
Ah yes, "heavily pregnant." I prefer "deeply pregnant." Or.. oh!
"Irreparably Pregnant."
