Shee Venath Shrine Entrance

Among the 134 post-DLC shrines of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there are more than a few that stand out, showcasing unique ideas that delight and occasionally perplex players. Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath – both subtitled ‘Twin Memories’ – are a fantastic example of this, playing with your expectations of where the solution to a shrine can be found.

In this guide, we break down where to find both shrines, set you on the path to solving them, help you locate their treasure chests and describe the solution.

How to find the Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath shrines

Situated more or less at the summits of the striking Dueling Peaks, Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath are typically among the earliest shrines players encounter after leaving the Great Plateau. After all, the area is along the route for the early ‘Seek Out Impa’ quest objective, and the northernmost of the pair – Shee Venath – can be seen quite clearly from various hills and pillars when travelling east from the Great Plateau.

However, scaling the steep inclines on the way to either summit will require patience and some players may want to put it off until they have a little more stamina – or loading up on stamina increasing meals such as the Enduring Mushroom Skewer.

While the most obvious route may be to climb in the vicinity of the river and the Duelling Peaks Tower, you may find you have an easier time heading north or southwards to take advantage of the gentler slopes from these approaches.

  • Shee Vaneer is at the southern peak. This side of the mountain is just tall enough to require that you put on some cold-resistant gear

Oh, and there are a couple of Korok Seed puzzles at both summits – so be sure to grab those.

How to solve Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath shrines

Shee Venath Shee Vaneer Shrine Puzzle Message

Upon entering either shrine, you encounter a stone tablet on which you can read a mildly cryptic message.

The shrines atop these peaks share a connection – their memory the answer to the other’s question.

Commit to memory before you start, lest, a failure, you will depart.

Aside from this, you will find:

  • Five orbs placed in specific sockets on a five by five grid
  • A moving platform that takes you to a vantage point above the orbs
  • A closed door leading to the monk (and that sweet, sweet spirit orb)

The meaning behind the message is simple: the initial position of each of the orbs in the five by five grid of sockets will open the gate in the other shrine.

Solving both shrines is therefore simply a case of:

  1. Visiting the first shrine to note the initial position of the orbs
  2. Visiting the second shrine to do the same, and then moving the orbs to match the pattern of the first shrine
  3. Revisiting the first shrine to place the orbs in the pattern observed in the second shrine

Have you moved any of the orbs out of place? Don’t worry - the position of the orbs should reset if you enter and exit the shrine.

Noting their positions will be as easy as snapping a screenshot (easiest from the vantage point the moving platform takes you to), or grabbing a piece of note paper and drawing/writing down the solution in any format that works for you.

Where are Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath’s treasure chests?

As with every shrine in the game, there’s a simple additional puzzle in both Shee Vaneer and Shee Venath: a bonus chest with useful loot.

In keeping with the ‘Twin Memories’ theme, each chest is hiding in essentially the same place in both shrines: if you ride the moving platform up to the observation platform, you may be able to see a ledge behind the wall closest to the platform (as in the screenshot above).

Accessing the ledge – and the treasure chest – is a simple matter of jumping, deploying your glider and doing a leisurely U-Turn as you descend.
