I agree with @Lizuka , I'm excited to hear the music more than anything. It'd be neat if for the cost you got a zip file full of mp3s too, but the infrastructure for that doesn't likely exist to make it easy.

Too high. Will wait for a sale. This is a $15 game, and could get away with $17. At $20, I would wait for a sale. At this price, nope--needs to be at least a 50% discount before I get it.

Even Cave Story is $30 and 2-3x what it should cost.

Wow that's actually way too high than I was willing to shell out for this game. Even Square Enix, the master of over priced ports, just launched an HD remaster of the Last Remnant for only 20 bucks.

I'll wait for a sale for this one.

Have we gotten any confirmation that Danny Baranowsky is doing the tracks? Cause getting Zelda remixes by DB alone is worth that price tag.

Not sure how people can possibly decide the price is too high without knowing how big the game is or how good it is. There still seems to be a perception that any eshop release should automatically be less than 15 quid or so. If the game gives 10 hours of fantastic gameplay then that is well worth £20.

25 bucks is actually a decent price. I feel like we are in a situation right now where many people are still hesitant to pay "that much money for just an indie game". Reminds me of An Affordable Space Adventure on WiiU. The outrage over charging 20 bucks was huge. Nowadays it's pretty much the standard. From the footage we've seen it seems like they put a lot of work into paying respect to the Zelda license. I'm sure this game won't disappoint

@MajinSoul I agree, there is no stigma nowadays about 'Indie games' (if there ever was), really they are just 'download only games' and every bit as worthy of our attention as the AAA releases and it's only fair that they are priced accordingly.

Anyway here in the UK we get really good regular eshop sales so if £20 is too much for people then I doubt they will have to wait long for it to be available for £15.

Its the price I figured it would be. Seems to be the new price for "premium" indies. Dont mind it, but its not just an impulse buy price either.

I don't buy eshop-only games for more than £10.

And besides, being Zelda related don't be surprised to see this get a physical release one day, then how many of you patting yourselves on the back for paying full price will moan about not having waited...

Do we actually know how big this game is? For all we know there may well be enough content to justify its slightly higher price. It may be too soon to judge.

@BenAV Yeah I can imagine that this will be a much bigger game than that. Beating this game with the 3 playable characters, and doing different runs with items will easily be 40 + hours. I can’t wait to play this game tonight. (Living in China so morning is night here).

considering I got Crypt of the Necrodancer for less than £3 on the Russian eshop during a sale I'll wait until other significant price drops

All over this!! Love the first game for many reasons. The challenge, the music, the art style, the inventiveness, the fun! $25 hopefully means this is a massive overload of Zelda Rhythm Adventure goodness. I’m so ready.

Speaking for myself as a consumer, it’s high for me and my budget.

Speaking for developers, they’re free to charge what they will to recoup costs of development and promotion, but there’s a fairly nebulous space where it’s high enough that some of us flinch upon seeing it or low enough where they feel like we’re ingrates.

I don’t doubt the value they perceive for the title and IP is justifiable, but I personally can’t agree to it at this starting price.

If $25 is too rich for you then you need to get another job. Indie developers deserve full price for their efforts the real enemy is AAA developers who have not one restless night for charging $60 for games like Anthem

I earn more than enough and the point that I made was that it isn’t something that I would pay that price for, not what they price it at and what you believe they deserve.

In capitalist free markets, they say “caveat emptor” or let the buyer beware, and I am thus exercising said awareness, and likewise, “caveat venditor” warns the seller that it is also their responsibility when a buyer does not fulfill their expectations. I shall point you to a wonderful author known as Naomi Klein who writes about such matters in her book “Shock Capitalism” and to older classics like Max Weber’s “The Protestant Work Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism”, wherein the latter elaborates that just because one earns more doesn’t mean they should spend more, which is why we attain wealth by virtue of saving, supported in turn by economist Friedrich Hayek, who is opposite the Keynesian view of spending more that you appear to be espousing.

Drop the ad hominem and strawman fallacies because what you allege has nothing to do with my point about not wanting to pay that price. They can charge what they want but that doesn’t mean I have to pay it nor does it mean I can’t afford it.

Not too concerned with the price, just want to see actual uncut gameplay before deciding on it. Love zelda and the astetic of it but can't quite wrap my head around how it plays quite yet. Would be awesome if we could get a demo but I doubt that

That price is WAY too rich for my blood. Also, I wasn't the biggest fan of the base game.

I had no idea that Danganronpa crossover content was a thing, though. It doesn't come included by default with the version I bought. I'm... gonna go check that out.

The base game is $2.99 on steam right now. The gameplay is unique but is not for everybody. I'd recommend everybody who is interested in this game to check that out first.

That said people like different things. It's not surprising that some people would like this type of game and think it's worth $25 and others would be skeptical of this gameplay and prefer to spend that $25 on a different game.

What could the indie studio have done in your eyes that would have made it worth more than $12.50 to you? To me the beautiful art style, the soundtrack, and the mechanics that I am familiar with from their previous title already make the game worth more the $25. I was ready and willing to spend upwards of $40 on this title.

I am willing to pay up to $20 and would prefer to pay $15 and maybe even $17. The reason I would now prefer to pay half of their asking price is because I don’t believe $25 is worth it based on what I’ve seen so far. And if they’re overcharging, paying the discounted amount is enough to send the message that they did overcharge.

If it’s just a Zelda skin of CotN, then it’s too high. If there are plenty of extras on top of the music and the gameplay that made the original game fun for me and still one of my favorites, I would want to see enough to justify that cost. So far it doesn’t show that enough besides the Zelda IP even if I enjoy it.

Remember Zelda on the CDi? It’s not something that I would pay more for just because of the IP because it was an awful game.

It may be worth $40 for you and you are well within your own right to ascribe that value for the music and art style with the existing gameplay, but I simply don’t value it the same way.

Now if they charged $30 for a physical version, I might be okay with buying it at that price. I am willing to pay more for physical releases than I am for digital releases because storage space is another issue for me.

Comparing this upcoming game the Zelda CDi games is reckless. The developers have proven they can make a fun unique game, so to be worried this would be a garbage title like the CDi games is silly. However they have shown off quite a bit and from what they showed off is this will be reminiscent of early top down Zelda titles complete with dungeons, boss fights and the like. So if you are a Zelda fan this looks to be a fun extended approach to their original game with a sharp nice art style. You seem to want to attack an indie developer because they charged $20 instead of $25 and just like before I said that indie developers are not the enemy (except maybe Wild Card Studios). Use that outrage and try to take down EA with the rest of us.

I honestly shouldn’t have had to make those references because I game in order to separate myself from the complexity of politics and society and the divisions they describe. I refer to the audacity to price it high because of the IP, not the gameplay. The gameplay is good for the original title, but it needs to be something more than just adding Zelda to CotN to justify that price.

I actually have to pay more for storage cards where I live and they aren’t widely available in that 400GB variety. If it were around I’d already have bought it but the highest I found was 128GB for $100 and there is sadly the risk is pirated cards all over.

the only reason i don’t like the price is that it means that if there’s a limited physical release, it’ll be like $50 and that’s REALLY not appropriate for this game :/ hoping for an official release vs limited.

I don't believe it will get any physical release. Even a limited special release, because of the IP. But Nintendo has been changing in big ways so you never know. Also $50 physical for this game wouldn't be too bad if it came with a physical CD soundtrack and artbook

By North American do you mean US or Canada? Cause that's not the same price. But since you put the $ before the price, it must be US.

@Quinnsdaddy11 well, companies that include those things usually only include them in “collector’s editions” which are like $60-70 :/ i’ve never seen a “standard edition” include more than an instruction manual and a trading card or something. i’m not an avid collector who buys every physical release, but the games i like, i just like to buy physical. hopefully it comes sooner or later.

I won’t pay more than $18 for the game digitally as it stands unless something fantastic is shown in addition to what we see so far.

Do you realize your earlier assertion that I need to get another job to afford what you believe is a reasonable price basically turns gaming into elitist activity? Dang... I was looking forward to this but then I actually played CotN and it was just a confusing and underwhelming experience for me. Maybe I’ll revisit it and learn to love it but I definitely won’t be picking this up until then.

I'm saying the gameplay is very unique and many people might not like the game for any price. If they wanted to try it to see if they liked it the Steam version of the original is very cheap. I find it hard to believe you don't have access to a pc, but that hardly matters if you have the original on the Switch and love it.

People need to stop giving video game systems to people who financially can't afford the hobby. That being said I prepurchased and preinstalled Cadence of Hyrule for the full $25 (plus tax) asking price. I sent the message to the developers and Nintendo that I am more than excited to play their collaboration and approve of their wonderful low cost they are releasing it at. Sorry that when I see someone complain about a $25 game I assume they are financially strapped.

There was a veteran here who lost his bottom limbs and posted last week that price is important for him and what he earns as his pension, and is part of what helps him is his Switch, which he received as a gift. We all need something to cope or enjoy what we can out of life, and this elitist attitude really isn't helping do what the Nintendo philosophy is all about: bringing people together and having fun, politics and all other nonsense can be left at the door.

Might I also remind you of the terminal cancer patient who got Smash Ultimate last year? Should we deprive him of enjoyment too? People are gifted systems or games because it brings them joy whether they are dying, disabled, or disadvantaged, just like when I have given people a 3DS or when my cousin gave me a PS4 Pro during my down and out times after I lost my job and was unemployed for almost a year. I haven't bought a single game for it because I've borrowed or been gifted titles, but the enjoyment I have from the gift and the care attached to it is immeasurable, just as I have seen it with people I have gifted things to as well.

I don't think joy should be limited to those who can pay more than something should be charged, because yes, while the hobby is not cheap, it does not mean that we can be gouged for costs, nor does it mean we are unwilling to support independent game studios, which, by the way, likely had subsidies for using the Zelda IP.

When I was a child in public school, we shared our toys with each other regardless of their parents’ tax bracket. You are basically arguing poor kids shouldn’t play with the same toys even if kids who can afford them share or give them gifts so that they can enjoy the same things together, and this makes you unbelievably insensitive and frankly pretty selfish.

I think I'm done here with this conversation with you and anyone who subscribes to your view because I want to game with players who want to have fun together, not create this unnecessary division for haves and have-nots.

I do not think you should have been given a PS4 while you were unemployed for a year. That is an expense I don't feel you needed at the time. It's not an elitist thing at all. But if you can't eat for instance it makes no sense to buy a new pair of basketball shoes. As far as your disabled vet option if the gifter is willing to help them with buying games that's a fine gift but if not and they are expected to buy games with their disability checks that seems like a terrible use of their limited funds. Gaming is not a necessity it's an expensive fun hobby

For your information, I work in a highly specialized field (a career—something you obviously will never have in addition to a brain) which involved me doing things such as working at a children’s hospital in Cambodia to helping Sri Lankan Civil War landmine survivors and child soldiers and helping eliminate HIV in East Africa in countries you never heard of before.

You think income is income and one can just hop from one job to the next or head to a call center? You pretty much show that you don’t have a career or a clue about the world outside of what your parents and trust fund pay for, and so you can’t go shaming people for not wanting to pay what you’re willing to splurge regularly on.
