The ever-evolving world of DC Universe Online is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer, it has been confirmed. This will be the first time the game has ever made it to a Nintendo platform.
Originally launching back in 2011, this free-to-play MMO game has players creating their own unique character who buddies up with and fights against stars from the DC world. Since its release, the game has been constantly changing and expanding, and its world is about to grow even more thanks to this latest console release.
Developer Daybreak Games has confirmed that small changes have had to be made to get the game on Switch - you won't be able to enjoy cross-play with other platforms, for example - but having access to a game world which has been growing for over a decade is nothing to scoff at. Speaking to CBR, the game's executive producer Leah Bowers explained how the Switch version will still play a vital role in the community as a whole:
"It's very important to me that all of our communities stay the same and up to speed. I didn't want the Switch to be in a book all to itself; I wanted the other communities to benefit from the improvements that we were making and vice versa."
DC Universe Online's creative director, SJ Mueller, also shared the following:
"It doesn't matter what level you are, just press the button and suddenly you're in Gotham, where everything's happening. On the Switch, fans get to try it again... for the first time!"
No specific release date has been set just yet, but it's expected to arrive this summer. Perhaps this could turn out to be the perfect companion for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order? Unless you're irreversibly devoted to one franchise over the other, of course.

Ahh this game still going? It's been a while. But definitely giving it a go again on the switch.
I had no idea this game was still going...the Batman geek in me might give it a shot...but I'm not a fan of MMOs, so who knows...
Oh, neat.
Still hoping for Injustice 2. I need my DC action with Hellboy doing battle with Donatello!
...Wait...
Awesome an MMO coming to Switch
Amazing, i am waiting for more MMO on Switch
A 9 year old online game coming to switch? Ah skeet skeet
@MasterGraveheart
ROFL... Who says IDW and DARK HORSE can't play too!
Good. The Switch could use more MMOs and DCUO is a decent one.
another good game to play this summer, this summer is going to be great
Cool, put a lot of time into this back on the PS3, great news!
This article was a bit clickbait-y with its tag line reading, “Marvel and DC fight it out on Switch.” I clicked because I was shocked, but now I’m a little disappointed haha
I’ll definitely download the game though I’ve never played it!
I tried this back in the day when it launched on PS3, it wasn't very good.
I'll stick with MUA3 but this feels like an odd choice. But hey more games, somebody is excited about this somewhere.
Nice I will have to play this again
Just port a Marvel Vs Capcom game and that'll be the only super hero game I'll need on Switch.
i had completely forgotten about this game, i might redownload it and give it another go
I thought this was for the TV streaming service but I guess that is just called DC Universe without the Online at the end. I want to watch Doom Patrol and my son wants to watch Titans so it's been on my mind.
@rjejr doom patrol is a great show.
Titans is a show.
Like most, I thought this folded years ago.
MMOs on Switch could be a great trend for some. Hopefully just a start.
If I had to pick an MMO to some to Switch, i'd pick Mabinogi. Granted I would mighty upset if it wasn't cross progress, I want my character on Switch. Too many hours and money to start again.
Pokemon MMO next please.
This... could actually be a fantastic addition to my library... I'm genuinely surprised! I'm going to have to look into how far the character customization goes, but I guess for so far, I'm pretty sold. Not so happy its not Cross Platform, but if the gameplay is solid enough - I won't even care. Its got Multiplayer Online and you can make your own character - that's often good enough for me, really.
Played a bit of this on Xbox and enjoyed. Will download on day one.
Awesome!
Got it on PC and liked it, but never really got into it properly. Maybe this time...
Not really a fan of MMO's
I remember looking at it and remember see the limitations of free users were and decide to skip it
@rjejr not sure how old your son is but Titans ain't for young kids unfortunately, it's pretty brutal and bleak
Used to play the crap outta this. Quite enjoyed it. Will dip in again for sure. But Im way more excited for Marvel.
@rjejr DP is sooooooo good. Its worth $8 to give it a try imo. The first season just wrapped, so you can binge both. Tons of comics to read too, with lots being added as well. I actually have kept my sub going for 3 months now.
@PhilKenSebben I want to watch doom patrol, just waiting on a UK broadcaster to pick it up!!
I remember playing the free trial, and liking it. However, I'm not that big into MMOs. Still, I'll check this out.
@gimmi_c Ahhh. I keep forgetting what site Im on. Sorry. I hope you folks get it soon.
@PhilKenSebben lol don't worry, I think we understand this site has quite the international audience! Plenty to watch in the mean time...arrowverse has a few episodes left and Jessica Jones 3 should be out in june
@WhiteTrashGuy Hey, I ain't complaining. Throw in Abe Sapien and Shredder while you're at it!
I’m not a huge MMO guy but I’d def give this a go. Multi-player + super heroes? I’m in.
I remember sinking a decent amount of hours into this on my PS3 some year back.
A free to play MMO? So Free to play the opening section, pay to get anything cool?
Would be nice to start again with a community that hasn’t yet been corrupted by the DPS race. Well... at least for a couple of months until they get pulled to the dark side.
@Heavyarms55 It’s pretty heavily instance based so you get the entire open world in free-to-play. Level 1-30 (which is the maximum anyway). When I used to play it I think you could get up to a couple of tiers of armour in the end game but then you couldn’t get any further. It’s been a long while though so I might be wrong. The game was all about the post 30 gear grind.
As long as it runs better than Onigiri I’m down
This is awesome and unexpected news!
Seriously Warner Bros., all I want is a port of Injustice 2 for Switch. Just use all your MK11 money and make one. Thank you.
So I went and checked out the Character Creation yesterday like I said I would - and I'm actually very impressed. They seem to have gone quite far in making each character feel varied and unique. I'm sold - I'll be grabbing this when it comes out. I kiiiiinda wish they expanded on the powersets a bit more. It looks like they just went for the most popular/prominent powers in their universe that appears commonly enough. But either way, it would still make most people happy and that's what's important, I guess. I like that we're getting all the DLC with it too. So thats an extra couple of elements for people to look forward to.
I have my doubts playing this, played it for atleast 2 years non stop but got sick of the payed to win or pay to enjoy the game in a decent way kind of thing... The free play is a complete nightmare and so the game forces you to keep spending money on it where at one point you spend money on monthly subscriptions and DlC etc
@Roam85
"doom patrol is a great show.
Titans is a show."
Swamp Thing is a canceled show.
This is a reply to a month old comment - I'm cleaning out my over 999 unread emails - so if it makes no sense, dont' worry about it.
@rjejr you put enough context.
A shame, it’s pretty good so far.
Ah well, Young Justice comes back soon.
Just a heads-up for anyone downloading this remotely - it's just over 24GB in size (just found out that I have no space left on my card!)
