The ever-evolving world of DC Universe Online is coming to Nintendo Switch this summer, it has been confirmed. This will be the first time the game has ever made it to a Nintendo platform.

Originally launching back in 2011, this free-to-play MMO game has players creating their own unique character who buddies up with and fights against stars from the DC world. Since its release, the game has been constantly changing and expanding, and its world is about to grow even more thanks to this latest console release.

Developer Daybreak Games has confirmed that small changes have had to be made to get the game on Switch - you won't be able to enjoy cross-play with other platforms, for example - but having access to a game world which has been growing for over a decade is nothing to scoff at. Speaking to CBR, the game's executive producer Leah Bowers explained how the Switch version will still play a vital role in the community as a whole:

"It's very important to me that all of our communities stay the same and up to speed. I didn't want the Switch to be in a book all to itself; I wanted the other communities to benefit from the improvements that we were making and vice versa."

DC Universe Online's creative director, SJ Mueller, also shared the following:

"It doesn't matter what level you are, just press the button and suddenly you're in Gotham, where everything's happening. On the Switch, fans get to try it again... for the first time!"

No specific release date has been set just yet, but it's expected to arrive this summer. Perhaps this could turn out to be the perfect companion for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order? Unless you're irreversibly devoted to one franchise over the other, of course.
