At the end of last year, there was a rumour CD Projekt was porting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt across to the Switch.
It all began when a French retailer listed a Nintendo version of the game alongside Assassin's Creed III, which has now been officially confirmed during the most recent Direct presentation.
In the latest development, evidence of a Witcher game coming to the Switch is reportedly mounting, as YouTuber Doctre81 has now discovered GOG.com owner CD Projekt has posted a job listing for a GOG Galaxy Software Engineer, referencing multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch. Take a look below:
While the original retailer listing referenced the third game in the series, GOG.com and GOG Galaxy also play host to a number of other Witcher games including GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. GOG.com is described as a digital distribution platform with a curated selection of games and GOG Galaxy is a gaming client designed for purchasing, playing and updating games, as well as offering online support between gaming platforms.
Doctre81 has been previously linked to the rumours about EA working on Frostbite Engine support for the Nintendo Switch. Check out the following video about his latest finding:
What do you make of these developments? Would you like to see the Witcher make the Switch? Tell us down below.

I'd be willing to bet this is Thronebreaker.
Zoo wee mama, tons of third party games are coming over soon. Not my cup of milk, but cool for those that like these kinds of games.
Hopefully throne breaker. This would be great on switch. Their other games I think are a bit too high fidelity graphics to warrant
The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played my PC and one of the few games I feel justify owning a more powerful system, so if this is true I'll be genuinely excited for Nintendo-only players to try this out for the first time. I might even double dip just to support the seriously difficult porting job the developers may be undertaking.
Witcher 3 would be a day one pick up for me but they'll probably port something else. Wouldn't mind getting gwent though.
I'd be shocked if this actually happened. Unlike Kingdom Hearts 3, this game's graphical style seems way too demanding. Even if they did a massive rework, it would end up being a huge downgrade. The KH3 artstyle lends itself well to lower resolutions and simpler 3D models, this game would take a much heavier hit.
@Heavyarms55 As long as they made it look like Skyrim I'd be perfectly satisfied.
If they made Witcher 3 for Switch I’d die. So good! I would still love thronebreaker though. I haven’t played that one yet.
@maruse if they do that they would ess be creating the game from the bottom. Most likely thisnis for thronebreaker
Witcher 3 isn’t coming.
I’d double dip if it was Witcher 3, or get Witcher 1/2 for the first time if it’s those. I never finished W3 on PS4, as I became a parent and my daughter dominated the tv time, lol. So I get much more game time on Switch and W1/2/3 would be a perfect fit for me. Yay to them if they do a trilogy release all at once.
There are 2 options for The Witcher 3 on the Switch:
1. The Switch will start burning and probably injure or kill the user.
2. The game runs at 2-5 FPS.
@Zuljaras
Lol 2-5 stable FPS
@Mgene15 This is because of the dynamic resolution range from 180p to 240p.
Played it so long ago on PS4, never finished it... it was boring. Unlike BotW, Witcher 3's world is not fun to explore, they look good but everything felt empty.
I suspect that the title of the article is a bit misleading after reading the job description which is talking about connecting players, so more likely the Gwent game.
As for The Witcher 3 it is one of the very best rpg's I've ever played but I'm sceptical about the Switch being able to run it. Areas such as Crookback bog and Novigrad still cause issues for the other consoles with only the Xbox One X getting anything like a 30fps lock, with even it's performance mode not getting anywhere near 60fps in and around that city. A Switch version would need huge cutbacks in those areas in particular to make it anywhere close to playable
Do you think that the panic button would work with this?
The Witcher 3 is too ambitious for the switch. I'd rather see Gwent (since it's f2p no Nintendo online subscription required) and thronebreaker. A cyberpunk spin off like shadowrun or thronebreaker could work as well.
Has to be Thronebreaker which is okay with me as in my personal opinion the Witcher 3 is horribly overrated. The Witcher Adventure Game (boardgame adaptation) would also be nice. Anything but that TW3 jank.
The Witcher 1 and 2 would be fantastic.
2 is much better than Witcher 3 IMO.
3 is BARELY an RPG at all.
dont call witcher a rpg ... ots more an adventure with low budget skill System... i played it for 17h on pc.. i couldnt finish it...
sry i need to say its not an rpg ...
they should bring divinity 2 on switch.
rly looking forward to baldurs gate / icewinsdale...
I couldn't get into Witcher 3 on PS4 because I couldn't dedicate enough time to it. Having put well over 100 hours into games like BoTW and Skyrim on Switch because of the portability, I'd certainly like to give it another shot.
@admiraldancealot It's... very much an RPG? Just one where your character is predefined rather than one you create yourself.
If we're defining RPG by mechanics, well, it has weapons and equipment to gear up your character with, it has a level-progression system to measure how powerful your character is, it has a conversation system where you make choices for your character, it has quests and sidequests (so many sidequests). Experience points. An open world. Many of the genre's trappings are present.
I understand your arguement in that you're playing a predefined character, there's no classes, and no 'role playing' in the D&D sense.
But make no mistake, The Witcher 3 is, definited by it's mechanics, definitely an RPG.
Gwent seems like the most likely candidate.
@Nintendocom
I'll agree that BotW's world feels more fun to explore, but it simply can't match The Witcher's storybuilding/lore/roleplaying. Don't get me wrong, I value gameplay above all else, but i feel like each game has its own pros and cons and don't really need to be directly compared.
I tried Witcher 2 at the time and got bored after a couple of hours and dismissed western RPGs since... This is until I gave it a try on Skyrim and actually really enjoyed it. So I will give a new opportunity on any Witcher coming to switch
The Witcher 3 is my favourite game of current gen and would absolutely love to see it on the Switch. But, with that said, I just don’t see that happening. The game is taxing for a PlayStation 4 Pro, and I think we all can agree that the Switch is a bit off those specs.
Modders have already downgraded The Witcher 3 to the point it was running on a 15 year old potato PC, so this can be done.
Played it to death in ultra on PC already though, so personally I hope it's Thronebreaker.
I highly doubt Witcher 3 is coming. It is a great game (and kinda national pride here ), however i'm not sure that there's satisfying middlepoint between graphical fidelity and performance. 1 & 2 would be great, although, since 3 would not come, they are not very likely IMO.
Witcher 2 still looks and runs great on Xbox 360. The Switch is capable of more. I'd like to see a port of The Witcher 3 based on the engine of the second title. For me, that would be perfectly sufficient regarding graphics.
Rather than play a heavily downgraded version on the Witcher 3 on Switch, I’d much rather have a solid port of Thronebreaker or perhaps even Gwent. Here’s hoping!
Just finished the 3rd one with both DLCs 2 days ago on PS4. I wouldn't be interested in the first 2 since I have them on PC and never even finished the first one.
I doubt they'll adapt Cyberpunk for the Switch. But they could be working on another game: Cyberwitcher 1277 (I'd be awesome at inventing game concepts no one would ever want to play)
I love Witcher 3 - I'm only pausing from playing it at the moment due to the backlog on Switch and Resident Evil 2. I'm not too far in to it, just dealt with the Red/Bloody? Baron and messing around with that witch. Made the mistake of trying to take on a gargoyle and then, after dying 25 times, decided to heed the advice on the loading screen and wait till I'm levelled up to tackle it. Fantastic, fantastic game, but on the Switch? No chance.
I guess I am pretty much in the minority here, but I was bored to death playing the Witcher 3. Very bland lead character, clunky combat and movement that feels like a chore, and a mildly interesting plot that is not nearly enough to carry 150 hours of gameplay.
I think everyone missed the part that says "GOG". I think this just refers to GOG, and not the Witcher. They're talking about connecting players, so ensuring cross-platform play works through GOG, and making it easy for the developers. And they probably need software engineers for that.
Additionally, the listing is for CD Projekt, the parent company, not CD Projekt Red, the developer.
The Witcher III is my favorite game for this generation of consoles. I'd welcome a Switch port with open arms but I have doubts about it running well on the console.
Probably Gwent, and id be down for that.
As for Witcher 3, dont think it will come to Switch.
Personally id prefer 1 or 2.
@ddowler85 how is 3 barely an rpg
sWitcher
I think they could port Witcher 2. They got it working on Xbox 360
@cadaver138 Switch is a lot more powerful than Xbox360. Closer to current gen relatively speaking.
If they get this running on Switch then they are wizards. My favourite series of all time, completed W3 twice on PC with new game+ and I’m now playing it on Xbox One X, mainly because it has HDR and the PC version doesn’t. I would buy it a 3rd time if it came to Switch.
Personally I think it will just be the Gwent card game and not the actual Witcher games.
@Octane
What's GOG? Game of groans?
This is probably about the free Gwent game and/or Thronebreaker...
@Chayshirin I hope you're joking, but in case you aren't. GOG is an digital storefront on PC, just like Steam. GOG is owned by CD Projekt.
@Chayshirin GOG is the best platform to buy Digital games for PC.
Ports of Witcher 1+2 would work, but I doubt 3 would, you're most likely going to see Gwent.
Not happening. Simples!
Breath of the Wild does everything better.
I would take anything from this developer! They make quality games and ANYTHING would be a win for owners of the Switch. If they somehow manage to pull off a technical miracle and port W3 that would be awesome. If it turns out to be just GWENT, equally awesome.
@Liam_Doolan Just tagging you here, because this may need an update!
''I think this just refers to GOG (as the job application implies), and not the Witcher. They're talking about connecting players, so ensuring cross-platform play works through GOG, and making it easy for the developers. And they probably need software engineers for that.

Not happening.
There's no way
Witcher III could run on Switch!
Please prove me wrong!!
CD Projekt Red is looking for Switch programmers... Half Life 3 confirmed.
@Heavyarms55 yeah I’d be extremely confused if Witcher made it to switch and not kingdom hearts 3
Witcher 1&2 maybe, but 3 is never going to happen. Not feasible enough, unless we're talking about an upgraded Switch.
Yeah, bring it on Witcher 3 or maybe 4. Now watch the Trolls roll in now.
I really found the game uninteresting on PS4, and gave it up after 15 hours. So wont buy it on Switch, not now with more interesting games like Dragons Dogma and Fire Emblem coming up this spring/summer.
Maybe the first Witcher game would run on Switch. If they can manage that they can sell their product even better. Even if it's the first game
I only played 3 on ps4 and didn't get what the hype was abput. Not a bad game but not OMG BEST GAMES EVERS! as some have called it. I gave up about 5 hours in as I had more fun imo games to play.
Praise Geraldo!
@RasandeRose you assume your taste are what determines what I would like or not like. That's when you get into trouble.
@SwitchForce
No, notice that I wrote that I found it uninteresting. I didn't give a single thought about you.
@RasandeRose oh bohoo I am so sad...I could care less about you as well... your just a passing thought flush of the toilet
