You might recall how Everspace has been in development for the Switch eShop for some time now. In case you forgot, it was originally released by ROCKFISH Games in 2017 and is a beautiful single player space sim with roguelike features.
If you've been wondering when this game running on the Unreal Engine was going to land on the Switch, according to an Everspace: Stellar Edition listing over on the eShop, the space exploration title will be arriving next month on 11th December for $39.99. Below is the official eShop description:
EVERSPACE™ is an action-focused single-player space shooter, combining roguelike elements with top-notch visuals and a captivating story. It takes you on a challenging journey through an ever-changing, beautifully crafted universe full of surprises. Your skills, experience, and talent for improvisation will be tested continuously as you piece together the puzzle of your existence through encounters with interesting characters, each having their own unique part of the story to tell.
During an interview in March, ROCKFISH Games CEO and co-founder Michael Schade said the developer's mobile background had been very helpful during the development process - with the team able to produce a super smooth game that also looked stunning in handheld mode.

I’ve been waiting for this. Hope it’s as good as many people say. I absolutely killed Starlink with a little under 60hrs. Want more content for that as well.
This game looks glorious. My most anticipated eShop game for sure.
Oi, four days after Smash? I’m looking forward to this one, but it’s gonna have to go on the list. I’m already getting Katamari on release for Smash breaks.
Not bad. Will keep an eye on it.
Ehhhh, $40 combined with it being just days after Smash and the fact that I've had much less interest in video games lately kind of makes me a bit shy of this one. I may still get it. More and more though, I find that I'll buy a game I feel interested in and then either never really play it or just not finish it. I just got Starlink Deluxe Digital and Skyrim in the eShop sale, two games I'd been eagerly waiting for a sale on, and I've had no desire to play either one. I guess this is what it's like being an adult.
ALL.OVER.IT!
I've stopped playing on PS4 so I can savour the experience on my Switch. Simply can not wait!
Everspace is the best Han Solo simulator that isn't an actual Star Wars game IMO
Definitely will be on my visual scanner.
@HobbitGamer you basically just summed why I'm glad the west won't be getting dragon quest builders 2 on December 20 and will have to wait until 2019 before the game gets localized.
Dragon quest might be big enough in japan to stand right next to smash... but in the west it might as well be its death knell if it had to be released so soon next to it in the holidays season.
Best delay it to 2019 where it might surprise people as an unexpected release during what would have otherwise been a slow month... and thus give it that way as much chance as possible to be noticed in the first place.
I have no idea what my 2018 gaming would have been like at the start of the year if the switch port of DQB1 hadn't been released in February during what would have been a drought for me owner since I wasn't interested by the last December's Xenoblade Chronicles or the at the time upcoming March release of Bayonetta 1-2.
DQB1 had the perfect blend of enough jrpgish crafting to tide me over for months without none of the seemingly abused absurd complexity that seem to be tied into Xenoblade Chronicles 2's mechanics. The nintendo directs they made just to explains it's mechanics did more to turn me off the game than getting me interested X_X
As it turn out I'm hoping for a similar timing for DQB2 as it may well releases just when I'd have played everything I wanted out of smash.
Yeah I’ll be getting this in January haha
Cant wait. Not a Smash guy, and could use a break from Warframe and Diablo.
Holy $#!+ this looks awesome, and I'm diggin' the soundtrack too!
@PhilKenSebben Same, here.....no smash for me...but I'm diggin' the look of this game!
I will likely just buy this on PS4 instead. I really don't understand why it has to be 10$ more for the Switch version which has much more limited hard drive space than my 2TB PS4. I honestly don't usually buy games over $25 digitally but I'll make the $5 concession for this, especially since it has BEEN OUT on PS4 for several months already.
Sorry Nintendo, but the tax really broke the deal for me this time. Maybe some of us (you know who you are) will find the handheld aspect worth the extra dosh, but not me.
@baller98 Switch tax. It is there since Switch launch.
@AshFoxX @setezerocinco It is not a tax, so much that it's just publishers trying to take advantage of the hybrid nature of the Switch. They figure you're getting a portable version PLUS a home version, which is bs for sure, but that's their bs reason.
It'll be on sale before you know it, however. Especially with their unfortunate release time.
The price tagg is a struggle for me I think I will wait for a price drop.
@onex @setezerocinco @AshFoxX
Guys, guys, this isn't a Switch tax. This is $39.99 for the STELLAR EDITION. It's essentially the definitive edition which is priced the same as on other platforms. The version that is $10 less is just the base version that we unfortunately aren't getting on Switch
Just one shiny surface short of being the kind of space game I'd expect to see from Shin'en.
@Ludovsky regarding XC2 I was also one of those that did not buy the game day one because the way Nintendo showed the gameplay it looked ultra complex. However in February after talking with some people here I decided to give it a go and oh boy is now my favourite game on switch by far and also the one with most time (+165h after two full playthroughs and excluding Torna that I bought as a stand alone physical copy). The game is definitely not as complex as it appears even though the tutorial of the game does not do a better job than Nintendo itself to explain it (the term cancel arts comes to mind as the worst way to call the mechanic)
@Giygas_95 dude, tell me about it. I used to think it was gaming fatigue. Perhaps now it's just life fatigue and gaming seems too frivolous when put next to things that "matter"... Kids, don't ever grow up. It sucks
@AshFoxX The developers have to do a lot more work to make a game look comparable on Switch... they have (so far) been doing great, but it obviously costs the devs a fair bit of time to optimise a game to run on a less powerful system... and they are passing that cost on. To be honest, for the value of having a good game handheld, I’m more than happy with a $10 premium if it means that devs are making the extra effort to bring games over at almost equivalent visual quality.
$9 on Steam... good luck with that 🙄
Not sure, if I wanted a Space shooter on the Switch I probably go for Starlink so that I can play with StarFox.
If it runs as smooth as they are promising I will absolutely be getting this one. I would prefer a physical version though.
Looks great, but at that price?? Will wait for a while before getting this.
Haven't played a good space shooter for ages and this is one I was hoping on. Will also depend on review
Looks amazing, like Manticore, but roguelike? I had not one good experience with these kind of games. With Steredenn and NeuroVoider I thought 'what a cool thing', but after that every single game I bought with roguelike elements was so boring.
Everspace is probably my favorite space game at the moment, this one really eats Manticore for breakfast. I always wished it could arrive on Switch and here it is. Will get it for sure!
Looks good, but I wish I could demo it. Not fully sure on how I feel about it yet...
I thought it said reach for the stars and thought we were getting a sonic colors sequal...
Dont tease me like that!!!
@Giygas_95 I’ve grappled with this same feeling quite a bit. Avid gamer through my adolescence, then a 15 year hiatus, and now a strong aura of nostalgia coming from the whole enterprise, and a retro revival that brings me right back with brilliantly designed games that, miracle, have sophisticated adult sensibilities. (I’m looking at you, Celeste.)
Sometimes I wonder if I enjoy reading about games and anticipating their release more than playing them. Certainly that’s a much bigger part of it, for me, now, the community and the journalism. One thing I’ve found helps is, since I’m a grown-ass human now, setting aside time specifically for gaming, and incorporating it into my life in a more holistic way, rather than closing off the world to indulge and compartmentalizing too severely a passion I still possess. That can’t be healthy in the long run. But time must be made to allow feelings to progress beyond nostalgia, and maybe to choose games with dimensions that better suit your modern self.
(I find also the glut of games and fast and furious nature of their releases diminishes our ability to focus on a few great titles.)
This honestly just made my day. I’ve been wanting this game what seems like FOREVER and have been checking fairly consistently for updates around the web. December is going to obliterate my wallet:
Gifts for others + Smash Bros. + Sega Classics + Everspace + ...
I can’t think of others right now but I know I have 1 or 2 others in the pipeline. I JUST bought Starlink too at that sweet price point of $39. Oh well. They’ll both be good in their own way and I haven’t played a space flight game in ages. Can’t wait!
Thanks for the update on this!
I have it on X1 and felt it would be a much better game on Switch, so I'm excited. OTOH I suck badly at the game. It's kind of Space Souls, and is ridiculously hard, often with tons of repetition.
Space being vast as it is, the idea of 'rogue-like elements' doesn't turn me off as it normally would. This game actually has my attention.
Looks great, looking forward to the review!
They charge more on the Switch because people are willing to pay more. I know I am. I have hundreds of games on Steam and as a matter of principle I very rarely pay even $10 for any of them. But if a good game comes out on the Switch, I'm going to buy it. And as for the more heavy-duty consoles, pfft. The Switch is simply the most fun way to play.
@baller98 well yeah, sometimes they even give us extra for the price. And that's even better. But I still feel it's worth more to have it on the Switch in the first place. A bit like the flip side of getting a mobile version of GTA for peanuts but you have to dismally tap away at virtual joysticks.
I think I want to try this game in VR instead.
@TheFongz @baller98 This isn't more expensive though. This is the EXACT SAME price as the Stellar Edition released on other platforms. Cheaper for Switch even if you take advantage of that 20% off pre order discount. I mentioned this above but the version that's $10 cheaper on other consoles is only the base version of the game. They still have to pay $40 for the Stellar Edition just like us
