Spintires: MudRunner – American Wilds Edition, the definitive version of indie title Spintires: MudRunner, has now received a Nintendo Switch release date. You'll be able to grab yourself a copy on 27th November.
The American Wilds Edition is actually an expansion set to be offered in versions of the game on other platforms, but the Switch version will have this included from day one. Alongside the expansion, the Switch version will also feature the base game and all DLC content released so far - that's a total of over 30 vehicles, 60 add-ons, ten sandbox maps, and 11 challenge maps. On top of that, it will feature two brand new sandbox maps inspired by the rough lands of Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota, new challenges to tackle, and seven iconic US trucks from brands like Ford, Hummer, and Chevrolet.
The game has you working your way around muddy terrain, raging rivers, and other obstacles that are said to "realistically react to the weight and movement of your vehicle, powered by the game's advanced physics engine". Armed with your map, compass, winch, and driving skills, players can either go solo or join up to three others in co-op multiplayer.
Note: The images below are stock screenshots of the game and may not necessarily reflect the upcoming Switch edition.

Definitely waiting for impressions on switch port. This game is hugely physics driven. Wanna see how the switch handles it.
If it’s any good I’m up for it... the switch version that is.
I'm interested... so what do you do in the game?
Based on the type of game and the art-style, I'll bet that this will not look good or run well on the Switch port, but I hope I am wrong.
And it has a cockpit view to boot. I'm SO getting this game.
pre-ordered already
American redneck style. I am interested.
@kobashi100 The original game runs at full 4K on my laptop with no slowdown. I'm sure the Switch will handle it fine. It's mostly CPU driven, it seems.
My son is beyond excited to play this on the Switch. He asks me of it's out yet every week.
Never underestimate the potential of a lazy port... crossing my fingers that the delayed Switch release indicates that the devs will actually make it right.
Hopefully there is no "Switch tax" either...
@ballistic90 awesome. Fingers crossed switch port is great
@holygeez03 The premise of the game is pretty simple, but don't let that fool you into thinking that it's a boring game. When the demo of the original game came out, I spent many evenings just driving around forests and through mud, with a huge variety of vehicles.
What you need to do in the game is choose a vehicle, and perform the task connected to it. It could be finding another truck that's stuck somewhere, and towing it back to the garage, or simply bringing a truckload of logs or whatever to its place of destination.
Basically, it's a truck simulator, but with real world organic features in the water, ground, and other environmental elements. Throw a little bit of an arcade feel on it, and you have SpinTires.
So, the game basically just brings out your inner kid, playing in the mud with your cars and trucks, and if you're up for that, it can be really entertaining.
Here's a Let's Play, from some people who are just as entertained by it as me:
P.S.
There's more parts to this video, if you liked it...
The other parts show the variety of vehicles, so you might be interested in those as well.
I've been interested in this game for a while, but it had such a sketchy development history on PC that I wrote it off years ago. If the Switch version is any good then I may reconsider.
always wanted to try this on pc
I have never heard of this game until now.... I am weirdly interested
So Labo controls or not?
Being a farmer and driving big machines in difficult conditions I’m quietly confident I’ll be a master at this game 🤔😁🤪
I really wish Nintendo would have put analog triggers on the Switch.
@BensonUii You're welcome. Personally, I'd take this over any full-on simulator any day, seeing as it's just more entertaining.
@Mountain_Man Never heard anything about that sketchy development history. Back then, someone brought the demo to my attention, which I really liked, and later I got the full game, and I've never seen or heard about any problems, and the game is great, so if you were already interested in it back then, I can easily recommend it to you.
@sandman89 Haha, you might know some tricks that others don't, but you'll find that if you're getting stuck in this game, it isn't all that easy. The mud is knee-deep in places, there's raging waters, canyons, cliffs, heavily wooded areas and so forth, so most definitely not your bog standard farmland areas.
But what I am pretty sure of, is that you will enjoy the game regardless.
For all of you fine people, that are curious, but still on the fence, here's the official demo download of the first version of SpinTires:
https://www.moddb.com/games/spintires/downloads/spintires-tech-demo
Put that on your PC and give it a go, to get a general idea of the game and its physics. Since this is a tech demo version, there are no assignments that you'll need to execute, but you can drive around the map with various vehicles. It supports both mouse/keyboard and controller inputs.
The file is archived, so you'll need to extract it to a folder of your choice. I would advice to extract it to a new folder, because the archive contains a bunch of separate files, so it's better to keep them in one folder.
The archive also contains a pdf quickstart guide, to get you acquainted with the controls and menus. You start the game with the "SpinTires.exe" file.
P.S.
On the same site where this download is from, there's also a whole bunch of extra vehicles that you can download, as well as other add-ons, such as new maps and such, which are all compatible with the demo, and besides that, there's info, images, videos, articles and reviews.
im American, but not 'murican enough for this.
whatever floats your meth-lab house boat, i guess.
@kobashi100 I've got the PS4 Mudrunners and I share your sense of caution. I could see this going very wrong if they don't get the physics right when porting it over. And I must say, I thought those weird, brutalist Russian trucks and towns added to the allure of the game. The fact that the Switch is getting an Americanized version is actually kind of disappointing.
The switch is crying out for a good car game. I'm waiting with baited breath for V-Rally, and wishing against wish for GTA, and I'll definitely get this if it reviews well and the port isn't garbage.
@TheFox I don't know what gave you the impression that Switch is getting an "Americanized Version". This is the definitive Spintires game that has the regular Mudrunner game from PC, XB1 and PS4 PLUS all of the DLC which includes American locales and trucks to the base game. PS4 and XB1 are getting this same version. It is literally nothing less than the original game.
@ThanosReXXX (Re. sketchy development)
I don't remember all the details, but the first version of the game on PC was sold with game breaking bugs and missing features. There were a couple of inadequate patches, and then there was a falling out between the developer and publisher, and the former abandoned the game and refused to give the updated source code to the publisher so that they might continue the project, and then things went into limbo. I stopped following the game after that, but it seems like everybody may have gotten their act together and finished it up properly.
I hope there's a Switch demo. I'd love to see it in action.
@Mountain_Man Ah, okay. Never knew about that. But they most certainly did get their act together. Just download and play that demo, that I linked to in my previous comment, and you'll see and experience that the game is doing just fine. And Mudrunner only expands and improves upon that, so if you like the tech demo, then Mudrunner will more than likely be a must-buy.
