UK gaming chart statistics are now in for the week ending 1st September, revealing that Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate has debuted at number nine.
F1 2018 has managed to keep hold of the number one spot - a position it acquired during its first week on sale last week - holding off the challenge of this week's major new entry, PES 2019. Mario's colourful Switch racer is still performing strongly, power-sliding its way to sixth place, but the top ten is largely dominated by multi-platform games this time around.
There are plenty of Nintendo Switch titles just below the top ten in the individual charts, however, with Super Mario Odyssey at 14, Minecraft at 15, and Zelda: Breath of the Wild at 17.
Here's a look at the top ten all formats chart (physical sales only):
1. (1) F1 2018
2. (New) PES 2019
3. (4) Grand Theft Auto V
4. (3) Crash Bandicoot: N.Sane Trilogy
5. (New) Yakuza Kiwami 2
6. (5) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
7. (11) PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds
8. (6) God of War
9. (New) Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
10. (10) FIFA 18

It's a shame that Konami completely ignored the Switch and didn't release the PES 19, it would be good to have competition in the system.
I think they've missed a great opportunity to capture part of the football fans that play only on Nintendo platforms, they could grow their market share offering something different than the Fifa game.
Personally, I prefer the style of PES but the last one I've played was ages ago so I would by it now if available on the Switch.
And about Monster Hunter, I'm surprised it appeared on top 10, luckily, for Capcom, they've got a release window with not many blockbusters.
Another Capcom rereleased game does ok. The success of these makes me hunger for the possibility of a Marvel vs Capcom 2/3/collection even more
@tourjeff I feel exactly the same. Was really hoping for PES on Switch. They may have lost a lot of the rights and losing to FIFA in sales but there really great gameplay wise and I'd have definitely purchased. It might have really helped the series as it is rapidly losing to FIFA and I think the Nintendo fanbase would have given it more of a chance than other consoles.
How long will GTA5 stay in the top 10?
It pains me to say it but I think PES is on its last legs. The game might still be great for local multiplayer but its game modes are lacking. FIFA has a good selection of game modes to keep things fresh. PES doesn't have enough to keep me interested.
Was a PES man for years. Last one I bought was in 2014. I don't think I'll be going back.
@bluemage1989 I don't even mind the "rights" so much as long as you still have the options to edit your team. I've always played PES, actually I've started since it was called "International Super Star Soccer" on the SNES so it always had this rights problem but the game play was, in my opinion, ahead of the Fifa's offering.
Nintendo fans have missed so many PES entries that now would be a perfect time to get back to the platform...but now they missed it again
@Medic_alert yes, I'd love to play PES on the Switch and like you, I've also purchased Fifa 18 (which was a good game tbh) to play it on the go.
As I said Konami really missed the opportunity here and I'm not sure they will be able to get it back.
With Fifa 19 (and 18) available, Nintendo fans that didn't have a decent football game in ages will now recognise Fifa as the main game and PES (if ever released) will have lost the appeal to a new audience.
Maybe if there was a Crash Bandicoot costume for your Hunter/Palicos, the game would chart much higher.
@tourjeff I remember the days of ISS especially the N64 classics great times but yeah I remember the pre rights days and I'm not that fussed on having them to be honest. PES always played the better game of football compared to FIFA I think everything just felt right and I think this was the last chance they had to really sell the series to Nintendo fans which is a shame really because I like the series. I haven't bought FIFA 18 and probably won't buy 19 as FIFA stopped feeling right for me a long time ago. I'll probably pick up Legendary Eleven which lacks the budget of these big hitters but will help my football fix along with ACA football releases.
Tsk.... 🙄
Football and F-1.
Two Boring sports ever.....
The Euphoria from those sport that i will NEVER like at all...
@JoeDiddley 9th place in the first week of release is about as far away from "ok" as possible.
Games like Crash and Mario that are both much older have finished above makes this really not ok 😂
I would be interested to see global figures as the game isn't popular here anyway. But i already know what the Japan numbers are for XX (380k) so it leaves NA to really prop this game up.
And historically MH has always sold better in Japan than anywhere else so its almost safe to say this game will do as well as i thought it would (not well at all).
I say almost because i need global figures to be sure. I really can't wait to see them 😀.
@CCore28 Wouldn't exactly call it niche, but yeah, not nearly as much selling power as in Japan. Landing 9th in the UK, though... can only be attributed to two things:
1. UK predominantly loves Sony platforms and games
2. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is an upgraded 3DS port with G-rank, and most people have either spent the year we had to wait playing MHXX or MHGen... or have jumped ship to MHWorld because it's easily accessible on the country's favorite console.
Understandable debut rank overall.
@Blizzia its certainly the latter... We love the Switch here... What we don't love is 3 year old scaled up ports of 3ds games selling for £50... Yeah we dont like that.
@Razer Remember that most people won't buy it twice. The majority of Monster Hunter core fans have already bought MHXX, and we have several resources that fully translate everything from Japanese to English, meaning a double-dip is unnecessary.
Other than that, it's technically also a game most have already played on the 3DS. Only G-rank is new, along with the two extra styles, some hunter arts and a few moveset updates.
For the West, that is. Japan has been able to play the entire game on 3DS which further explains the poor sales of the Switch version.
@Blizzia you nailed it on the head on your second point... It is technically a 3 year old game with harder monsters and slightly better graphics...
The problem is it costs 50 blimmin quid?!?!?!...
For a scaled up 3 year old 3ds port... It was never going to do anything other than flop over here.
@Razer I'm sorry to say this, but no, the UK does not love the Switch. It receives nearly no marketing in stores, has pretty small sections with retailers, TV ads are shortened, and all quality games not on Playstation 4 loses out to anything on Playstation 4 usually.
Just look at how Crash Bandicoot dominated for what, 8 weeks straight? It's a bloody remaster/remake of 3 PS1 games. And it kept first place. For 8 weeks.
Nintendo games nearly always do worse in the UK than most other countries. Consoles too, though the Wii U obviously did worse because it was a flop that was dead on arrival.
That's not to say it isn't gaining a following. I've checked enough weekly numbers to know that Nintendo games and hardware sales have been on a steady rise for the past year, as people in the UK gradually become aware of the existence of the Nintendo Switch.
But the country absolutely does NOT love it. I can't disclose too much info regarding this, but a friend of mine in the UK ran a bunch of surveys through his company involving gamers as well as physical interviews with console gamers... And most people had no idea what the Switch was. It was mostly referred to as "Nintendo's new gameboy". Answers on anything Sony were incredibly on point and in general, when asked, people would name Crash Bandicoot or a Sony platform exclusive title as their current favorite game or franchise.
EDIT: Survey stuff was made in March 2018
@Blizzia nope.

Granted it not as popular in the UK as Japan or the US... Also PS4 does mostly outsell the Switch still... But its still a solid second.
I dont know what research your friend done but he musta pulled the stats outta his ass because its doing just fine here.
It's 5th on the Value Chart, which is revenue generated, and has been riding high on the UK eShop too.
The Monster Hunter demo was awful. Really clunky game and with no depth. Not for me.
So much for MHGU. Called it - as irrelevant of a launch as it was in Japan on a super slow week. It will be gone by next week. MHW still in the top 5 on Steam after a month. I hope Cqpcom gets the message now.
Great for CodeMaster. An F1 game on Switch would be great.
I don't think Monster Hunter needs to sell like hot cakes, to be acceptable, as it's a port of a fairly old game. Top 10, is a nice place to be, for any game. Better would be nice, but, it's not a brand new game. Of course, neither is MK8, but, that's a different beast.... Good to have MH on Switch.
Considering MHGU is free money for CapCom because they already had a game done and ready for west, I think they cannot complain. I’m certainly not, and I’m very grateful they released it because it’s already one of my most played game on Switch. I will easily put over 200h on this one.
Anyone who didn’t buy MHGU miss a great game.
Also.. can’t believe that GTA V is still on any charts at all!
@Agramonte NU HUH... Nope... No WAY...
I called it first, this is mine! Nobody will take this victory from me!!
😂😂
With PES 2019 selling 42% less than PES 2018 in the world's largest football/soccer market, it's only a matter of time before the franchise completely loses relevancy. At this point, Japan is the only place where PES sells anything remotely decent, and even there, FIFA is beginning to take over.
Pretty meh performance by MHGU, with its retail launch sales being half as much as MHG's retail launch sales. Greater digital sales and the Switch being a healthier software market than the 3DS should help though.
the main reason why the switch is not boosting sales, is its price.
at least at a price range of € 308,- with no game, or a nice gamebundle, or even a gamecard for some indie games at least, is too much for people.
its even more expensive then the more apealing (for teenagers and adult) playstation 4, and slightly cheaper then the ps4pro. it has better graphics, almost every game. there are tons of secondhand games to choose from in gamestores, wich nintendo second hand games are scarse and still expensive.
nintendo has to drop their prices, and make at least gamebundles.
@Razer na. "victory" is MHW still killing it on PC . This is more "Told you so" Capcom can't hype full price lazy ports to the multiplat people on Switch 😏
@Agramonte bro im not even multiplatform and even i saw through this bs.
Told you so is damn right... Dead in the water before they threw the line in!
@JoeDiddley 2 would be enough for me. 3 is too complex a fighter for my small brain. However Capcom vs SNK 2 EO would be good, save me replacing my GCN version.
@Razer Exactly. This is all on Capcom being lazy and greedy with the Nintendo community. Give us a real MH or give a discount.
Yep... Week one numbers include all the pre-orders. So you know it is downhill from here.
@Razer Nobody said it wasn't doing fine.
Being a solid 2nd means nothing in a race with only two competitors. Your links basically proved my point. Nintendo isn't outselling Sony, and neither are Nintendo games vs Sony games.
Close to literally everywhere else... Nintendo is outselling Sony.
Easy conclusion: UK doesn't love Switch. They're partially aware of its existence and the ones who know about it and aren't adamant about only playing on Sony's platforms like it... But Sony has had an iron grip on the UK for decades.
It might be about to change, but so far, it hasn't, an Sony is still the UK's beloved darling, while Nintendo remains "that company who made the gameboy", with most people describing their new console as "a new gameboy".
@Blizzia my articles that actually say Nintendo are doing well in the UK prove your point that the Switch isn't doing well??
I actually want to smoke what you're smoking.
That was actually really good, thanks for that... Really good stuff, i needed to laugh this morning 😂😂😂.
You have any more delusions to share or are you finished? I'm fairly certain the topic is finished.
Move on son shine, move one
@Razer I mean, if you can't see it yourself I don't know what to tell you Doing well /=/ leading sales completely demolishing competition.
UK = doing well
Most of the rest of the world = leading sales completely demolishing competition
Don't think I can simplify it more for you.
Also, it's spelled sunshine.
@Blizzia i already said its doing better elsewhere but its still doing well here.
Thats far from the crock of rubbish you're trying to pass off when you said its not doing well here.
No it isn't breaking records but its doing fine. A lot better than the WiiU.
See you're problem is your comparing it to the rest of the world...
Britain has brexit, its economy... Lets be real now, is being hammered... Its understandable that some businesses are struggling.
When you factor this in, the Switch is actually doing good in the UK...
Dont be so short sighted.
@Razer It's not about being short-sighted. You can't go around factoring in brexit and its economy into this. Clearly these things aren't stopping the PS4, so why should they be stopping the Switch?
And yes, it's doing good, but it's not smashing its competition at breakneck speed like everywhere else. My entire point. The UK is simply still stuck in Sony limbo for the most part.
@Blizzia uhh let me think why this could be....
It isn't because the PS4 is in its prime now could it? It isn't because PS4 is getting 90% of 3rd party support...
Look you are short sighted because by your stupid metrics, if the Switch isn't beating the PS4 then it isn't doing well. That s some truly short sighted thinking.
Well the articles i linked all indicate that you are simply just wrong, it isn't like i said, breaking records.
But it also isn't doing badly like you are trying to let on.
Its just funny how you went from "it's not doing well to its doing good".
Plus the Switch only beat Ps4 2 months in 2018 in NA so it isn't winning globally anywhere else outside Japan.
This is simply because the PS4 is in its prime, i really don't expect the Switch to match PS4 numbers when the PS4 is hitting its stride.
