The year may be dashing past at an alarming rate, but it's a great time to be a Switch owner; April saw the release of Nintendo Labo: Toy-Con 01 - Variety Kit and Nintendo Labo: Toy-Con 02 - Robot Kit. 2018 may have gotten off to a slow start compared to last year's amazing release schedule, but now we're on a roll.
So, what's on the horizon for Nintendo Switch fans, then? Well unfortunately not Dark Souls Remastered which has now been delayed until the Summer. We've compiled a list of all the good stuff coming out at retail in May and June, so feast your eyes and prepare your wallets.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze - 4th May
Retro Studios' much-loved addition to the Donkey Kong Country saga was one of the few genuine highlights of the Wii U era, and we can't wait to see DK and the gang swing, roll and smash their way onto Nintendo Switch for the first time. Now you'll not only get to play as Cranky Kong, but surfing bro Funky Kong and his new (and far more forgiving) Easy mode. So whether you're taking it on for the challenge, or just for giggles, Tropical Freeze is sure to leave you anything but cold.
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition - 18th May
The Legend Of Zelda series has enjoyed plenty of unusual outings over the years, but it's not seen anything as crazy as the 'musou'-style of Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. The benefits of a later release on Nintendo Switch means this version packs in all the post-release DLC into the one package, so that's 29 playable characters and the maps you could possibly ask for. It's the first time content from the Wii U and 3DS versions have been bundled together, so we're looking forward to flexing our Hyrulian muscles in May.
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection - 29th May
We've already got a tasty slice of Capcom fisticuffs on Nintendo Switch in the form of Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, but it's going to pale in comparison to the retro goodness of the series' next collection. This vault of classic entries includes 12 entries from across the franchise, with online support included for four of them so you can test your skills against the best competition Switch has to offer. You can even adjust the latency settings to ensure every move is sharp and on point.
Mario Tennis Aces - 22nd June
The big first-party release for June, is the slice and dice court-based drama of Mario Tennis Aces. The latest smash hit from the Big N brings back the much-missed Story mode, adds in some explosive arcade moves for blistering offence and rocks-sold defence, and all the characters and costumes you could possibly want in a tennis game. And just in time for Wimbledon 2018 in the summer!
More Awesome Nintendo Switch Games
Other than Donkey Kong, Hyrule Warriors, Dark Souls, Street Fighter and Mario Tennis Aces there are lots more Switch retail games which might take your fancy in May and beyond.
Awesome Accessories For Your Switch
We saw a whole slew of interesting accessories released for the Switch in the past few months, but more are on the way. Here are some tantalising accessories coming up in May and beyond which we found for your consideration.
So that's it for May and June - did we miss anything? Let us know with a comment and also tell us if you've pre-ordered any of these goodies!

Got that mic cover on pre-order can't wait
Hyrule Warriors + Dunkey Kang + SF collection.
I'm gonna be so poor (worth it).
Out of all those games only Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is what I have pre-ordered. I will also get a hold of 'Wolfenstein II the New Colossus' much later during the summer after I get my 512GB SD card for games that I cannot get physically.
You guys missed Wolfenstein :3 29th of June
The best game in May is Battle Chasers: Nightwar and it is not in the list =(
A few games are missing from this list: Mega Man Legacy Collections, Ys, Wolfenstein? Big Sony must be paying NL to keep those games off this list.
Also having Dark Souls as the header image seems like a troll.
Dont have the money to buy them all.i tink i will go for streetfighter and the lost child(Looks like a shin megami clone)
> successfully takes Dark Souls out of article
> keeps it as banner picture
Baby steps, gents, baby steps.
Mega Man and Runner3 for me
Also already prepurchased Wolfenstein II.
Lots of good and popular games left out here: Wolfenstein II, Octopath Traveler, Okami HD, Battle Chasers:Nightwar and Ys VII come to mind right now. And i do hope that Hyper Light Drifter comes out on retail in some form for the Switch.
You are missing a lot, guy. Might want to take it down for the second time and edit it again.
I would get the Megaman Legacy Collection 1 and 2, but since they are not all on one card and requires a separate download I'll pass. If they had put all on one cart like they did for the Street Fighter collection I would get it in a heartbeat!
@kepsux I did not lol until I saw the image, then I lol'd
I changed a bit my Nintendo Switch shopping list.
May 2018

June 2018
1. Yonder the Cloud Catcher Chronicles
2. Street Fighter 30th Aniversarry
July 2018
1. Sushi Striker
2. Mario Tennis Acesindoor
August 2018
1. Nintendo LABO Toy Con 01- Variety Kits
Eh yo hol' up!
Runner 3 is out in only three weeks from now?
Color me hyped!
I need that one piece in my life now fire emblem warriors is done
It's funny. 3 games I'm most excited for aren't on the list. Battle Chasers, Wolfenstein II and Y's VIII. Lol What gives? Anyways, Yonder looks awesome too.
Tennis World Tour and Sonic Mania :-/
I've got Donkey Kong, Mario Tennis Aces, Dark Souls and Crash Bandicoot on pre-order. If I can get round to trying the demo, I might add Octopath too.
Regarding the missing games, it's pretty simple guys, NL won't list them unless there's a link where you're able to purchase them directly from Amazon. Some of those missing games have working pages but are only available from third-party sellers, if at all.
Zero Switch games for me this year. Unless Pokemon or Metroid launch this year. Maybe smash if it isn't a wiiu remaster + 4 new characters. Or new announcements.
Definites -
DKC TF
Hyrule Warriors
Crash Trilogy
Wolfenstein 2
Possibles -
Sushi Strikers
Mario Tennis
Tennis World Tour
Captain Toad
Runner 3
On the Eshop Yoku Island Express, Pixeljunk Monsters 2, Sly Spy and Lumines are expected in May.
Ouch.
@Jack_Goetz Ys VIII and Wolfenstein II are both available on Amazon, so what are you talking about?
Captain Toad, Tropical Freeze & Hyrule Warrirors are all firsts for me, never got to play them on Wii U so I'm in. Mario Tennis is a definite too.
Wolfenstein II is on lock, as is Dark Souls should it ever appear.
There's also a fair few smaller games I am interested in.
There goes my games budget.
No games for me until E3.
I don't want to empty my wallet prematurely.
Possibly Little Nightmares, possibly Mario Tennis. There are some great games in there apart from that, but I've played them on the Wii U and other places.
Musynx? Isn't that what people take when they have a cold?
Just Mario Tennis, Ys Viii and Wolfie 2 for me (seems strange Ys and W2 were omitted from the above list, considering they've featured heavily at NL). Will get Steam2 and Owlboy when they drop a bit.
Slightly disappointed about the Dark Souls delay but at least there's something to go with Octopath in the summer.
My Wallet is fine.
I'm only interested in Yoku's Island and Garage on eshop, Mario Aces and a couple of others.
The others I played on release, ( HW Warriors, Cap'n Toad, DKC TF) or don't interest me.
The big one for me is Wolfenstein.
Garage, Battlechasers, Hyrule, SF collection, Wolfie and probably tennis. I highly recommend Immortal Redneck (May 10th), as well. Sunk 15hrs into it already.
In perspective this is two months Nintendo releases 2 games each. Furthering expanding the monthly releases over 1 a month since launch on average.
This continues to be insane.
SF 30th for me.
@Yasume I didn't look for Ys VIII to be honest, but Wolfenstein 2 and others are missing from either Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.com or both.
@Jack_Goetz https://www.amazon.com/Wolfenstein-II-New-Colossus-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B077ZNDMST
I'm amazed by how many releases the Switch gets and how many of them suck. This is rivaling the OG Wii in crappy games to total ratio.
For every 20 games there are 0 good ones.
It seems like every developer/publisher wants a piece of the Switch pie, but none of them wants to put any effort into it.
I love reading the comments- either people say there’s nothing to buy or lots. Personally I’m gonna be broke lol. I’m baffled when I hear that there are very little good games being released this year. For me it’s been all about the third party games ( I can’t believe that came out of my mouth since this is Nintendo). I’ve got a few preorders so far- I try to take advantage of that Prime discount if I know I want a game and it’s unlikely to drop in price for a while.
@SleepyOtus
I have a lot on my want to buy list which is making me nervous about E3 and what’s coming.
Really looking forward to Mario Tennis Aces! I hope it's a smash hit!
@immensechicken
I have one piece of advise for you, buy One Piece!
Why do you have Ys VIII? June 26
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ys-viii-lacrimosa-of-dana-nintendo-switch/6203525.p?skuId=6203525
@Yasume Yeah, like I said, some of them aren't available on Amazon.co.uk, some aren't available on Amazon.com and some aren't available on either. Wolfenstein 2 isn't on Amazon.co.uk and I can't see that anyone here is going to bother importing it...
I have DKC Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors, Megaman Legacy 1, 2 and X Legacy 1, 2 preordered. Hope E3 shows off some games that interest me for 2018. I do have Smash preordered, but I'd love a Pokemon, Bayonetta 3, or Mario Party.
@Mamabear I know the feeling all too well.
What flashback didn't get a mention!. Its coming in june and the physical version looks really neat even though physical does have a price of 35 that mock up cart case and everything with it looks cool.
You guys forgot:
Just Shapes and beats
PixelJunk Monsters 2
Lumines
Mario Tennis Aces appeals to me but I am a bit concerned it's not long been announced and it being released already. Hope it's going to be good.
@GameOtaku If you didn't buy a MicroSD card for situations like this, then what on Earth are you going to use it for?
@ThiNepo
Perhaps they are just so used to it being delayed that they did not even bother putting it on the list?
@JTMnM Yeah, it’s a giant conspiracy
@bones £28.75 at Base.
Can't wait, one of my favourite games.
Shantae, Owlboy and Little Nightmares in May (Maybe Fallen Legion.)
Sushi Striker, Mario Tennis and Wolfenstein in June.
Crash and Octopath Traveller in July.
@OmegaDestroyer
Let's hope that they will release it this time haha.
Two things...
1) I really hope that Aces will be good. I want to buy it, to play it, but prefer doing it not feeling salty about it
2) It's a huge disappointment to me, that all these WiiU re-releases feature no form of savegame-transference. I'd be willing to pick up Hyrule Warriors again, even though I feel like all in all FEW was and still is the superior entry, but in no way am I willing to buy HEW to start ENTIRELY from scratch, after having probably already sunk like ~80h into the WiiU version. That's just not gonna happen. Would I like to continue my conquest of the Adventure Mode on the go? Sure! Would I like to start back from square one? Nope!
The same goes for about all the other re-releases, though to varying degrees. Bayonetta is not even half as progression-driven and grind-heavy as a Warriors games, so it's not THAT big a deal (though I'd also vastly prefer to be able to carry my save game offer). Thinking about a game like Tokyo Mirrage Sessions #FE, I would absolutely buy that again for the Switch, since I always planned to go for the NG+ eventually, but not at the cost of having to spend another ~60h or so to getting there again in the first place.
I just feel like this is the part that really stings about these re-releases if you already had a WiiU. Double-dipping in terms of cash is one thing, double-dipping in terms of playtime ... that is a whole different story, as the former is replaceable, the latter though is most definitely NOT. Darn shame that Nintendo could not manage to figure out how to get cloud-saves to work in time to easily and conveniently solve this problem ... =( =( =(
Still, having said that, I still hope it can possibly be solved in the future, maybe after Nintendo Online has launched. I'd rather have this feature retroactively than not at all. Again, if I can easily bring my WiiU savegame for HEW offer to the Switch (the added characters should make no difference here, as they would simply be unaffected as others unused characters), I'd be down with rebuying HEW and having two Warriors games on my Switch. If not ... well, then I'm just not interested, no matter how well this port turns out, not even if they offered 50% off for WiiU owners (which they don't of course). Missed opportunity ...
Pumped for Street Fighter 30th! Going to pick up the NES30 Arcade Stick to go with it. I'll think about getting Hyrule Warriors, since I missed it previously.
Battle Chasers in May and Ys8 in Jun.
Mario tennis aces, captain toad treasure tracker, crash bandicoot, and wolfenstein.
@JTMnM it really was
Runner 3 and Okami HD for me.
I was going to get Dark Souls, but now we have no idea what's going on with that. So for me the list is physical Owlboy and Okami and Wolfenstien, then maybe Crash and Sonic. We'll see how the funds are.
As far as the headliners go. I already played DK on the Wii U, and I don't think Hyrule Warriors was a good enough game to get two, let alone 3 releases.
Wow nintendolife you put no effort into this list......
You missed wolfenstien, Y, megaman....
Bottom line is 2018 is a total wipeout!
It's just another month or two with no quality games.
And if smash has no interest for you the rest of the year is so lame.....
Time to trade in?
This month is gonna hurt. I need to snag some OT as soon as possible.
SF alone is going to eat my life. 3rd strike on the go? yes...all my yes...here have my money.
Mainly waiting on Valkyrie 4 and Fire Emblem. Excited about Wolfenstein but I haven't played New Order yet...
@Lord
"Time to trade in?"
One month before E3?? I dare ya to do it.
While I intend to get the Street Fighter Collection for my PS4, I'm a bit bummed out that it does not have Hyper Street Fighter II.
That would have been a crazy online game, since I could take say Championship Edition Ryu and played someone using a Super Turbo character online.
Super Turbo could have still been online for purists, but its a shame Hyper Street Fighter II which is the best version of the game was not included on the collection.
Ys VIII, Octopath and Wolfenstein 2 are missing, but oh yeah that's right if Amazon doesn't list them neither will NL. This site finds new ways to disgust me, this is a flippin NINTENDO site. Way to undersell the fanbase on excitement for releases. Anyway, get a GCU membership from Best Buy. $30 for 2 years gets you 20% off any game not used (and amiibo). Best deal around, stacks on top of sales.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ys-viii-lacrimosa-of-dana-nintendo-switch/6203525.p?skuId=6203525
@Syndrome Seriously, I immediately noticed that Ys VIII, Octopath Traveler(?!) and even later noticed that even Wolfenstein 2(?!?!?) were left from this list?!
That's like all the biggest third party stuff that is coming up afaik. Ys may be a less so but it's still Falcom property(iirc).... but even then forgetting games by Square Enix and Bethesda?!
@AJWolfTill Playing New Colossus on PS4 rn...it kind of sucks (minus the opening couple hours). It's hard to explain why without going on and on. Read up on it before you buy, maybe you'll disagree. Not being negative for negative's sake, it's taken me a week to come to terms with it, lol.
May-July are gonna be a brutal 3 months for my wallet. My most anticipated are Street Fighter 30th, Ys VIII, and Wolf2. And those three are just the tip of the iceberg.
Switch games have legs because I just can't buy them all at once hahah.
£18 for the new HORI Joy-con with D-pad ain’t bad at all.
@Ludovsky Shining Resonance Refrain is also missing. Comes out the same day as Crash
It will look something like this.
May
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero – Ultimate Day One Edition
Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 + 2
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection
Owlboy
June
BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle (maybe)
Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
July
Sonic Mania Plus
Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2
Octopath Traveler
Steam World Dig 2 (when available)
Pre ordered Runner3. So psyched for that.
Also very likely going to get Happy Birthdays. Looks like the kind of soothing time sink I can dig.
So The Coma is getting a physical release. Good thing I didn't bought the digital version, because I was tempting to buy
since it is 50% of now.
@Ralizah
Mostly for VC. It's the principle of the matter SF2 and all its incarnations, SF Alpha 1-3 and SF3 all on one cart no download required, but all the Megaman games which take up less space are split between physical and a download?
Okami HD, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection and Wolfenstein II for me.
@GameOtaku So... you'd be OK with all of the Mega Man games releasing digitally as VC releases, but the same games releasing half-physical, half-digital is a bridge too far. That makes ZERO sense.
@Ralizah
No you miss my point. I'm getting the SF collection since it's completely physical no download required, the fact they could have done the same for megaman is why I'm not interested until they put them all on one cart. I'm paying $60 for all the SF games in one but I only get half of what I pay for in the megaman collection for the same price?
@kepsux This is going to revolutionize the Switch and redefine gaming as we know it.
Really? No mention of Ys VIII, Wolfestein 2, and Octopath Traveller?? I can't believe it...
Those are probably the three games I'm going to get these months, and I don't even see them here... Too bad guys.
I'm still kinda hoping Hyrule Warriors has a 60 FPS mode. I tried Fire Emblem Warriors at an event and it was running in 30 FPS... It was not good.
I'm not really familiar with the genre though, maybe it just isn't for me.
Octopath Traveler and Dark Souls are my next purchases, everything else can wait.
Wizard of Legend, West of Loathing, Okami HD, Ys8, Shining Resonance Refrain, Octopath Traveler for May to July!
After almost no playtime I'll finally have toooons of games to chow through in the future.
Wish I can add Moonlighter to that list man :/
Octopath and Mario Tennis are locked.
Got my eye on;
Battlechasers
Little Nightmares
Moonlighter
Yoku’s Island Express
Unexplored
West of Loathing
Bad North
Banner Saga Trilogy
Still looking for a good fighting game though, whilst Blazblue or SF 30th might fit that bill, it won’t be easy for newcomers to join in for some friendly matches -this severely influences my interest, shame.
So... Is no one going to comment on the keyboard? I'm sure testers will love it, an easy way to enter debug commands, but not sure what an average user would need one for. Unless someone decides to port original roguelikes like ADOM or NetHack, where nearly all keys on a typical keyboard were used. Or they also have a wireless mouse in the making for true FPS experience...
actually a whole bunch I will end up buying , RIP Wallet
Nothing for me until Octopath. 2018 is been terribly light - I have only bought Bayo 1/2, Naruto, and Attack on Titan over these last 5 months.
I'd get One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 if it were physical. Digital = no buy for me though until it is very heavily discounted
Edit: I forgot about Ys and Battle Chasers: Nightwar - I'm getting those. I will buy Wolfenstein if, and only if, it includes the season pass
@MoonKnight7
I’m in agreement about Hyrule Warriors. I did try it out but it just wasn’t my thing. Kept me from picking up the Fire Emblem game on Switch since it sounded similar. Unfortunately I did not take advantage of DK on Wii U- it’s gonna cost me too.
@lifepsychedelic
I enjoyed Captain Toad on Wii U immensely. It’s more of a puzzle type but not too bad. I am happy that Nintendo isn’t jacking up the release price for the Switch.
Got DKC coming this week and will more than likely buy Runner 3. Hoping to get SF as a birthday present.
@Mamabear
Yeah Hyrule Warriors was fine, but it certainly isn't a game I would consider good enough to keep getting releases. To be honest with you, I actually like Fire Emblem Warriors more than Hyrule Warriors (I haven't finished Fire Emblem though). But if you like Fire Emblem, and it's characters, it does an ok job. What really works as a benefit is you have the weapon class system in place, so you need to be careful who you send in a certain area, if you're on a Pegasus, don't send them in a room with archers, etc. There's a little more strategy in place which is nice. That said, if you're not a fan of the Dynasty Warriors gameplay, it's pretty much more of the same so you'd likely have little enjoyment out of it.
I'll say this much about DK. If you didn't buy it on Wii U, you can't really go wrong if you get it for Switch. Oddly enough it only cost $50 on Wii U, and now it's $60 on Switch with makes me wonder why it was $50 to begin with during the Wii U days. But for me, I already played it. I loved it, and the music is fantastic, but I don't feel a need to buy it again, at least not for a long time.
