Playdius has announced that BAFL - Brakes Are For Losers will be screeching and sliding its way to the Nintendo Switch eShop on 19th April.
The game is inspired by classic top-down multiplayer arcade games with insane tracks, allowing you to gather up to eight players for a hectic racing party, competing in championships, upgrading cars, and using dirty tricks along the way.
A challenging solo experience is available with championships against fierce AI competition, and special modes are available, too, such as Time Attack and Perfect Race. As you can see from the trailer above, the game is inspired by the pop culture of the ‘80s and ‘90s, promising funny details and surprising events as you play.
BAFL – Brakes Are For Losers Features:
- Up to 8-player madness on the same screen
- A Hardcore brakeless driving style
- Solo and local multiplayer in challenging championships
- Time Attack and Perfect Race also without brakes
- Badass Soundtrack
- Did we mention? No. Freaking. Brakes.
To celebrate the upcoming Nintendo Switch launch, Playdius and developer Oudidon plan to run challenges on the game's news channel on your console. Time-limited riddles will be displayed, and only the fastest participants will win prizes, so make sure to follow the BAFL channel on your Switch if you want to take part.
Will you be grabbing yourself a copy of the game when it arrives later this month?

I was rather surprised by how good it all looks. hope it plays just as well as the classics it is paying homage to.
Love these type of games, fingers crossed it's good.
Looks like the a great party game. Will pick it up if the price is right.
Love these kind of games too and having a great time with Gotcha Racing 2nd,highly recommended. BAFL has decent reviews on Steam and it's cheap, £4.49 so I'll likely be picking it up when it releases.
@Fuz I haven't played the original but I believe the sequel has more modes and customisation plus it has online leaderboards for time trial. One of my favourite features though is the screen can be rotated and played in vertical mode. It's brilliant to play this way and opens up the track ahead of you. Strangely only the races change to vertical display, the menus remain as they were. It's a minor niggle and hopefully it'll be patched. Other than that though I really like it. The car handling is really good and it has a fair challenge. I can see myself getting a lot out of this game as it'll be one I keep going back to. If I was to give it a score it would be a solid 8/10.
Driift Mania on WiiWare is a game I bought 4 times, twice on work Wii systems once on a WiiU system for a friend and once at home.
This game looks like it doesn't have all the great modes of that game, but I'm hopeful as I love 8 player games!
At work we often have 8 players, so games like Driift Mania, Runbow, and Party Golf get a ton of play!
I'll definitely get this... Please oh please be good.
Yes please.
A modern day Sprint. Nice! I hadn't played anything like this in years. Hope it controls well.
Looks cool!
Surprised at how good this looks. I lost a large part of 2013 to Motorstorm RC on the Vita so I can testify that a quality top-down racer is still very addictive, even if it's set 30 years ago. Fingers crossed.
@Fuz bought gotcha 2nd based on how much i loved the 3ds original. I've enjoyed it though I must admit it feels VERY familiar, the courses are the same (there are 16 now, think there was 12 in original?) feels a bit odd playing horizontal as opposed to vertically like in original but there are 3 zoom levels you can switch between with the right trigger. Took me 8 hours to clear my first run, but I didnt experience anything that stood out over original through all that time.
That said, as @OorWullie says, there are many more body parts/tires/engines than in the original and the accessories are a nice touch. I agree with the 8/10, but you may find it too familiar at the current price to justify getting.
I guess i played it through despite the familiarity...
@electrolite77 have you played Mantis Burn? That feels very similar to motorstorm RC
"Brakes Are For Losers" this sounds like what my brother would say as kids 25 seconds behind me in need for speed underground.
Very interested in this. Has it got online anybody know?
Hopefully the price is right
