One of many hot rumours floating about right now centres around developer Sumo Digital and the purported return of Sonic The Hedgehog in vehicle racing form. As well as suggestions that it'll be entirely focused on the blue marsupial, a second toy maker has come forward with a new toyline tied to an upcoming Sonic racing title.
In an interview with Pixel Dan, Diamond Select Toys says, “There are some minifigures […] some come with diorama pieces you’re going to build a race track from the game…“ Along with another toy maker, it sounds like SEGA is potentially going all out on this as-yet unconfirmed and unannounced game. It's been five and a half years since Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, so we're certainly due a new one, and with so many rumours from so many sources, it's starting to become the worse kept secret in video games.
You can check out the video with the comments above - the section you want starts around the 08:30 mark. Let us know if you'd be up for a new Sonic racing game, or whether the brilliant Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will forever be the karting king...

Sonic All stars was a launch game for my Wii U, will always have fond memories.
I'd really like another one on Switch.
The WiiU one was ok, kept us busy a week or 2. Doubt I’d buy a 2nd without tons of extra tracks and variety. When a Mario Kart game these days comes with 32-40...
I don’t count Deluxe having 48 as it was originally DLC.
But... As Deluxe is gonna be its competition, maybe I should?
The wii u game was great when it let you play it , used to make my wii u go insane even resetting the console on its own or completely cutting the sound
The WiiU game was good enough, but playing it on PC at 1080p/60 was a great experience.
Still a downer if it only features Sonic characters.
Also, hedgehogs are not marsupials, my dudes.
The worst kept gaming secret in recent memory is Mario+Rabbids' existence. I remember reading an article where Davide Soliani said he was stressed out from the negative reactions to the leaks.
Anyway, if this game is real, I may not get it. I have more exciting things to save my money for.
Hedgehogs are not marsupials.
Also, the real crime is that Sonic R never got a sequel.
Blue marsupial? Who exactly would that be?
Either way, if Sumo is involved, I will likely be getting this on day one.
Sonic Drift!
Will buy day one if true. YOU HEAR THAT SEGA?!
"It's been five and a half years since Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed".
And I still play it(bought it on day one for Wii U and later even for 3DS).
I hope the sequel will have even more franchises, like Bayonetta and Vocaloid, instead of being Sonic-only like some rumors say.
We've got Diamond Select Toys, Zappies, and the guy who revealed info about Sonic Forces talking about this game. It's getting difficult to call this a rumor at this point.
And... "Marsupial?" Hedgehogs are neither marsupials nor rodents.
If it's just as good as Transformed, I'll get this game day one.
@RusevDay But All-Stars had more variety than MK8 in terms of it
s content. MK8 just had your typical cup races and a bad battle mode.
If this game only has Sonic characters I am not too interested in getting it unless it is downright amazing. If it is another All Stars type game count me in!
Yay!
If it is true, then I really hope Sumo Digital are still involved. Transformed was perfect in just about every way and I'd be a little wary of another developer taking it on. We'll see though!
yessss
Hedgehogs are marsupials? Wut.
I'd love another karting game. Mario Kart is obviously brilliant and I'm better than this but who am I to judge? I'll buy this on day one anyway. Bring it on Sumo!
@ROBLOGNICK
Can you feel the sunshine?
Does it brighten up your day?
Don't you feel that sometimes
You just need to run away?
Reach out for the sunshine
Forget about the rain
Just think about the good times
And they will come back again
When you mentioned Sonic R that song came into my head. Would love to see a sequel too.
It would be nice to see another kart racing game for some variety. As much as I enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe it is a port of the Wii U game with only a few added extras.
@wazlon I know the lyrics to all the songs and I own the soundtrack. Wish I still had my Saturn and the game.
@ROBLOGNICK I've never played a Sega Saturn before, none of my friends owned one but I played Sonic R on the Sonic Gems Collection for PS2. I still enjoyed the game years after it's original realease
@SouthpawGrammar ....I really enjoyed it too. Got it on Vita a few years later and still play it every now and then.
@rockodoodle nice. The single player was more involving than Mario Kart's too.
@SouthpawGrammar My complaint about that game was that I thought the first set of tracks were awesome, then they seemed to drop off considerably after that. But still, one of my favs.
