Back in May, it was announced by publisher Bigben Interactive that a new tennis title from the core team behind the acclaimed TopSpin series is currently in development, with a release expected in 2018.
Billed as "a faithful tennis simulation translates into demanding gameplay during rally, a wide range of playing styles and a strategic preparation that influences the course of each match," Breakpoint Studio's Tennis World Tour will showcase more than 30 playable tennis stars including Roger Federer, Gaël Monfils, Angelique Kerber and Garbiñe Muguruza.
However, we've now had even more exciting news - the game may also be coming to Switch. Posters on NeoGAF have reported that they've been sent emails from Bigben confirming that Nintendo's console will be getting the game, alongside PS4, Xbox One and PC.
No screenshots or footage is available at present, but a successor to what is arguably the best tennis series of modern times on Switch? Seeing as Nintendo foolishly didn't include Super Tennis on the SNES Classic, you can count us in.

This would be very welcome. I've owned many tennis games over the years,from Wimbledon or Pete Sampras Tennis on the Megadrive to on Grandslam Tennis on Wii love them. Hopefully this new one will have motion controls at least as good as Grandslam Tennis, if so Switch will have the best version bar none.
@crackafreeze Nintendo needs to get Sumo Digital to make the next Mario Tennis game.
@crackafreeze I'd honestly be happy if they ported Ultra Smash to Switch but with more modes, proper online, single player career, more stadiums etc. The base game is there and it looked good, it was just a skeleton of a game. One I'm sure Camelot will have been ashamed to put out.
If it has motion controls, I'm in. I'm no fan of arbitrary motion controls, but Wii Sports tennis is tough to beat in the fun stakes, and to be able to play tennis in tabletop mode is a crazy proposition.
YES! A sports genre i actually like when it comes to game. Can't wait.
@OorWullie Loved Pete Sampras Tennis on the Mega Drive with the J-Cart featuring two extra controller ports!
Sweet, I love Top Spin, especially the 4th one.
I was saying in the forums that the Switch needs more sports games(and more genres besides). I'd love to see Nintendo make a new Mario Golf game. It's 15 years since Toadstool Tour on Gamecube.
@OorWullie Best Tennis game I've played was
Anna Kournikova's Smash Court Tennis on PS1
Nothing wrong with tennis games, love me some virtua tennis by sega
@John_Mcclane A lot of us don't want motion controls, with a sim like this it would be hard to translate the different types of shots whilst using motion controls. It's ok with an arcade game where all you have to do is swing and not worry about shot types, but not in a game like this.
I feel motion controls are best suited to Tennis games and I'd definitely be interested in this.
I appreciate though that motion controls aren't for everyone so it would be nice if they are optional for those that prefer a regular controller setup
top spin was awesome, if this game is as good as its predecessor, it will definitely be on my buy list
Nice!!
Get in. Sports games are perfect for Switch and I sunk hundreds of hours into Virtua Tennis on Vita. Not interested in motion controls for a serious sports sim so hopefully proper controls will be an option.
@John_Mcclane
Totally disagree. I wouldn't touch a proper tennis sim if it only had motion controls. Not nearly precise enough.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
But 4 years since the last Mario Golf
@SLIGEACH_EIRE you do realise that there has been a very good Mario golf game released more recently then Mario golf on the GameCube right.
@John_Mcclane Again for an arcade tennis game like Mario tennis that would be fine, but for a sim it just wouldn't work, forehand and backhand would be fine, but drop shot, spin and so on wouldn't work.
@kobashi100 @electrolite77 I'm talking about home console. Though if one does turn up on Switch, it'll be another handheld game.
@John_Mcclane
Not being a Pro Tennis player, you're right. I hope motion controls are there for those that want them, but I ain't flailing my arms around to get a less satisfying and accurate simulator.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
...and a Home Console version. That's the magic.
@electrolite77 It's not a home console.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE no it will be a Mario Golf game. Damn Mario golf on the 3DS has just as much depth as any Mario golf console game ever released before it. What's next, Luigi mansion 2 isn't a real console game?
The days of games being pegion holed as handheld games are long gone..
@sillygostly I agree. Tennis, Baseball, Golf, that's when motion makes sense. I wouldn't even mind a hockey motion controlled game, if we could get an extender for the joycons!
As long as the Williams sisters are in this I'll snag it.
Motion controls please!!!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Lol wut
If you can play a hypothetical Mario Golf Switch on the TV with a controller, you are playing the game on a home console.
YES! Finally a tennis game that isn't a cutsie party game! Please have accurate player movements such as Sampras's service motion, etc.
Super Tennis Japanese version is still the best 2P tennis game! But Grand Slam Tennis has the best online experience.
Loved Virtua Tennis 4. Never played Top Spin but there is a used DS game at my local EB for 2 bucks.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
It's a handheld and a home Console. A hybrid, if you will.
Total disaster.
@MegaTen
Last virtua tennis game i know off came out on vita, VT4,it was a port of ps3 version
Wonder if they'll try mimic motion controls using the Joycons? With no Wii Sports sequel in sight, this could be a new Wii Tennis experience that could prove popular to that crowd...
@MegaTen
I still play it on vita when i want a chillout game, best tennis game ever imo, i have tried many tennis games, can't stand the mario ones but grand slam on wii was ok but not the best, have to agree VT4 vita version was a great port, who would have thought vita could produce visuals like that, technically one of the most impressive games on vita. Fifa ain't to bad on vita either, it's more than adequate, i also downloaded NBA 2K on vita, it's not bad for a psp game, yep i do like sports games when not playing Japanese niche games, also buzzing at moment playing walking dead series on vita
@Nolan420 LOL If Nintendo says it then it must be true.
If this is a quality tennis game, it will fill another big sports gap on Switch along with FIFA, NBA 2K18 and RBI 17!! Need some Madden now! Cmon EA stop jerking around and dive in! The waters fine!
@Nolan420
I agree with sligy, it's a handheld, nothing home console about it, it's just a feature the handheld let's you do when playing on TV. All the guts are inside the tablet
I'd prefer a new Virtua Tennis, but I'm willing to give this a shot.
@Ralek85 I just wanted to write the same thing!
Virtua Tennis is my all-time favourite Tennis game, but since Topspin on the Wii was quite decent, I'll probably give this a try.
I totally agree with @EDF @SLIGEACH_EIRE
Despite me using it exclusively at home, the Switch is just a handheld/tablet with HDMI-out, nothing more. It's just the way it is technically built (with all the tech in the handheld part), it's not even a matter of opinion.
