The Nintendo World Championships 2017 aren't far away; as was the case with the 2015 event qualification has been very limited and low key, but the actual finals could nevertheless be good fun.
It's all going down on 7th October at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 10pm UK / 11pm CEST, and those in New York can head to the Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom at 9am local time on that day to try and nab free tickets to watch.
A new video confirms plenty of details including guest competitors; it'll be hosted Andrea Rene with play-calls by Jordan Kent. Metroid: Samus Returns is also confirmed as one of the games to feature - perhaps it'll be a speedrun or boss challenge.
As always we'll be live streaming and blogging the Championships here on the site - see you then!

Thats Nice
This craic again of calling it The Nintendo "World" Championship that's not open to the rest of the world, just America and possibly Canada.
I realize it's not the same, but they did invite some contestants from other countries... 360Chrism, for example, is from Germany. This probably helps them feel ok about using World.
Is John Numbers returning to defend his title?
cool cool cool
If Smash 4 for Switch is going to be announced this year, it's going to be here.
Bring back MiniWheat.
MiniWheat. MiniWheat. MiniWheat.
@Grumblevolcano It won't.
@Grumblevolcano I'm more inclined for Super Mario Maker Switch to be unveiled in the NWC instead of Smash 4 DX.
@Fooligan Miniwheat for president!
Last time around, they had a video from Itoi announcing Earthbound Beginnings for Wii U. So yeah, against all of my best notions, I can't help but hope for Mother 3 news.
Yay, here's to setting myself up for disappointment!
@holygeez03
Yes, but he wasn't invited. He actually won one of the qualifying events.
Such an eventful weekend in New York. First the New York Comic Con and now this. Kind of wishing that I didn't get Saturday tickets for NYCC so I could of watch this instead/too. NYCC is every year but I'm not sure if this will be the only time NWC will be in New York.
@Fooligan @ricklongo I'm not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but I legitimately thought Mini Wheat was great. I thought his knowledge about Nintendo and calmness on stage in front of a huge crowd of people was impressive for his young age. His enthusiasm was one of the highlights of the show for me personally. Mad respect for the kid!
I don’t understand why people are criticizing the Nintendo World Championships for not including the rest of the world, the United States is the world!
WOAH! Asa Butterfield got in? What the heck, never knew he likes Nintendo so much. Huh.
@Not_Soos I'm serious man. That kid was funny, I would love to see him back. He was kind of annoying but, what nine year old kid isn't. That was part of why he was so great and memorable. As for being President. I say go for it. He can't be as bad as the clown we have now.
if smash is announced here, it'll do to pokken what splatoon 2 did to arms. tho' i would like a tease of bayonetta 3 to be done by the playboy model who did her cosplay. hef would appreciate it.
