Overcooked: Special Edition is one of a number of interesting download titles arriving on the Nintendo Switch eShop this week, and brings with it a high profile. With a price of £17.99 / $19.99USD / €19,99 it offers the popular co-op formula on the go, throws in content that was previously DLC and also supports HD Rumble.
Ahead of today's release Team17 has posted a launch trailer and some details; check it out below.
- 44 campaign levels which can be played solo or couch co-op with up to 4 players
- 9 versus levels to play head to head locally with either 2 or 4 players
- 22 different chefs to play as. Choose a human, racoon, dinosaur, French bulldog, robot or even a reindeer in your quest for culinary greatness!
- A range of crazy kitchens to play across with different recipes to master - cook soup, burritos, burgers, fish and chips and more!
This certainly generated some hype when it was confirmed earlier in the year; are you planning to head into the kitchen on the Switch this week?

Seem cool
It's already out in Europe since last night
Any chance of a physical release?
Yay...!!!
Time for PS4 betrayal.
I will gleefully jump from ps4 version to Switch version.
Hehehe...
I saw this on Go 8 Bit, and complained about the cool indies there were on PC that I'd never get to play on a Nintendo platform.
Then I promptly shut up when I read the day after it was going to be released. Just seems perfect for the Switch.
the question i have is...who would build kitchens in such a convoluted way?! lol
It looks like a great game, but is there a story mode or something? Why would I play through the levels? What's my goal?
@silentium i've just started playing it and yes there is a story..but probably not very deep, but don't know yet!
Game looks really good. Never thought I'd be interested in a game about cooking but... here we are.
It's such a fun game to play with a friend! I've beaten the game on PS4 with a friend and we had a blast. Be warned though, it's barely enjoyable if you're playing alone so make sure you have a buddy that can play with you. I think I might buy it on the Switch as well considering it's portable and easy for 2 people to play. If you enjoyed Snipperclips, you'll almost certainly enjoy this game too.
Like snipperclips, another game that works great with the switch
I thought it was supposed to be £15.99?
@ImagineerNik Yeah, me too - but I just checked the UK eShop and it's definitely listed as being £17.99...odd. :/
It was £16 on the other consoles, I'm quite peeved as this is yet another dollar to pound price hike. Namco is the worst this week though, a straight 1:1 and that just isn't fair on us.
I was going to get this tonight but I read earlier it's not so much fun playing solo? I think I'll wait for the NL review now.
This game is really enjoyable with a second person for couch co-op, also tried online multiplayer with PC via a long method just to see how it'd play (no official one was/has been released, but the developers have mentioned that they may bring an online method in the future.)
@NaviAndMii Good to know I'm not crazy. I swear even NintendoLife reported it as £15.99 the other day.
@OorWullie If you own Snipperclips you might be able to use that to judge whether you will have fun solo or not. Both games are focused on working together to complete a goal, so there's a lot of communication involved. This one is definitely more chaotic because of time time limit, but it's the same general idea. If you can enjoy playing Snipperclips by yourself then you'll probably enjoy playing this solo too. But the game is intended to play with another person, and in my opinion is infinitely more fun when playing couch co-op.
When playing single play I believe there's 2 control schemes. One where you press a button to switch which player you're controlling and one scheme where you use half the controller to control one character and the other half of the controller is for the other character (although I guess this wouldn't work with a single joycon). In my opinion it's a bit uncomfortable to play with either scheme, so multiplayer is the way to go.
@ImagineerNik Haha! Yeah, NL did say it'd be £15.99 in this article on Monday...don't know whether that was the 'official' price or just a mistake on NL's part though. Ah well...
@Xaldin Cheers for the reply. I was put off buying Snipperclips for those same reasons. I did enjoy what I played of the demo but I can imagine it getting much trickier later on. I think I'll wait for either a sale or a new girlfriend
Downloading now ready for lunch break tomorrow
@BonafideInfidel I grow tired of these questions.
This is an alright diversion on PS4, but far from perfect.
@Pazuzu666 I already own it physically on PS4 but I would love it on a cart.
How many times (in one go) can you own any particular game?
I've heard it has some pretty bad performance issues on Switch... :/
@Moon I've been playing it today (docked) and haven't noticed any issues...
Can anyone confirm this is 30fps on Switch?
