UPDATE: After posts appeared on the official Constructor Facebook page which stated that the game was set to arrive on Switch in April, we asked the PR company behind the original press release exactly when this title is going to be released. Apparently they were given incorrect information, and the actual release date for the game on Nintendo's console is April 28th.
ORIGINAL STORY: System 3 has announced that it is bringing its popular city-building sim Constructor to the Nintendo Switch on launch day.
Originally released in 1997 on PC, Constructor is similar to SimCity, but the player has to drive rival construction firms out of business. The Switch version is part of a raft of HD updates for PC and consoles which were due for release last year but have been subject to multiple delays.
Here's the official PR:
System 3, the world's longest running privately owned publisher and developer of market-defining PC & Console titles, proudly announces that its long-awaited Constructor will be released on the hotly anticipated Nintendo Switch™ console.
The release of Constructor on Nintendo Switch™ marks the 20th Anniversary of the multi-million-selling city builder and is testament to System 3's ability to keep up with the rapidly-changing world of gaming hardware.
Using the Nintendo Switch™, Constructor fans will be able to seamlessly take their construction empire with them, allowing players to build, sabotage, and cause construction chaos anywhere. Caught short and need to lay some pipe during Constructor? Undock your Nintendo Switch™, take your place on the porcelain throne, and continue building your empire in uninterrupted comfort. Just remember to flush.
Constructor also utilises the wireless play of the Nintendo Switch™, allowing up to four mates to effortlessly play against each other in the many multiplayer Constructor challenges.
"The drive and ambition to bring products to the world's most dynamic gaming systems has stood System 3 in good stead over its 35-year existence. The Nintendo Switch is the latest example of hardware allowing us to bring our unique vision to the market. You'll now be able to build and run your construction empire anywhere you like – you'll never stop building!", said Mark Cale, CEO of System 3.
Constructor will be released on launch day for Nintendo Switch™, and 28th February for Xbox One, PlayStation® 4, & Steam players.
Will you be picking this up on launch day?

Not my cup of tea but hey, the more games the more choices we have right?
I would've preferred a reboot of Last Ninja on Switch but beggars can't be choosers and all that.
Yes! will be buying this launch day for sure, need something to play other then Zelda!
Yeah great that its another launch game but not my bag either, would have liked ik+ or last ninja.
Well, who wouldn't want to play on the toilet with their four mates?
This came out of nowhere. I literally learned about Constructor after seeing it was going to be on Switch, so the whole "anniversary" thing doesn't ring a bell to me. I've read this fame is a satiric take on British politics or something, akin to the Carry On series or maybe something more of a Monty Python kind of thing. If the writing is good, someone might buy this.
wut?
Depends on the price and how much I've already spent, but it has my interest.
@mattmayatt
I know right!
IK + was one of my favourite games, so too Last Ninja.
We can live in hope.
I need The Sims 4 for Switch !
Building house is more interesting on The Sims 4.
Day One buy!
I assume this is a digital release and not physical?
I like these's typs of games that normally are on PC.So I'll look this won up.
Every game helps!
I hadn't thought about this genre being good for the switch but this could be a surprisingly good fit. I will keep an eye out on this.
I can't believe I just read that. "Switch while you sh1t!" is now basically a marketing meme for Nintendo.
@lemonjellydude System3 have published physical releases before in Europe, so the option's definitely there. I think this may just be eShop only, but I thought the same about the 3DS Port of Putty Squad (another system3 published game) until I actually had a copy of it in my hands.
I think this developer has just hit on the KEY marketing messages Nintendo has missed so far.. you can play Breath of the Wild while having a poo.
"Playing Breath of the Wild at the same time as getting a Sniff of the Brown. " Coming to your toilet bowl this March.
Glad to hear more launch games are announced. I remember playing the original, and thought it was fun, but I'll be to busy with BotW to try this out in the near future.
I probably missed something here... How does NL knows that it will be a launch day game (not mentionned on other sites and on the publisher facebook page, and no source at the end of NL news) ?
"Caught short and need to lay some pipe during Constructor? Undock your Nintendo Switch™, take your place on the porcelain throne, and continue building your empire in uninterrupted comfort. Just remember to flush."
It's not often when you see an official PR mentioning your porcelain throne.
Depends on the price but so far Bomberman and Zelda are in my eyes the games to buy at launch
Depending on the price I will. I loved it back on ps1/pc back in the day. Felt like a smaller scale, more directly controlable sim city.
I'm not likely to pick this up, unless it reviews very well, but the more games the merrier!
Not my cup of tea but more titles is a good thing.
I'm a huge fan of city builders, but this competing companies gimmick gives me pause.
Oh well, if this reviews well, I'm definitely giving it a go.
Very nice, I'll be picking this up for sure.
This looks amazing, what a perfect console for a game like this
@ElGrego It was at the start of the official PR email we were sent. I'll clarify with the PR firm that the information is correct and update this post if anything changes.
@Damo thanks a lot Damo... That would be a good news as I love this kind of game (and an additional launch day game on Switch is always a good news given the current situation)...
This game is laugh-out-loud hilarious, and a really good management sim slash strategy game on top of that.
The one thing I will personally be missing is the original characters that used to inhabit your buildings. Those designs were outrageous. But the game is likely still great without them.
Good news, but I wonder if we will ever see another Sim City on a Nintendo console, maybe with Bowser in it again. That'd be cool.
This was a pretty fun game on the PS1 however the 3DS remake of Putty Squad was broken. I contacted them directly with the bugs I experienced and never got a response and they were never patched. Not buying this
Looks like my kind of game, which is good since there's nothing other than Zelda for me at launch. Maybe this and other close to launch eShop game will convince me not to buy Zelda and Wii U and just pick up the Switch later.
Constructor? Constructor...... Constructor Constructor. Constructor!
I mean, the more the merrier I guess. I've tried to get into this type of game, hopefully I can now.
@readyletsgo
Gur.. Gurdurr!!
I love this game! I played it for month on the PS1.
Nintendo! Bring more of these games tot the switch.
Bring the new Cossacks 3!
I love city builders so count me in. I didn't expect to see a game like this on the Switch!
Now 6 games at launch!
This remake is looking good. I think I will try it when I get my Switch.
Not sure if i'll play it much too get it at launch.
Good! Another title for my Switch collection.
The more the merrier!
