Pokémon Sun and Moon has already broken records in the UK and Europe and sold by the bucketload in Japan, and now it has been confirmed that the game is the fastest-selling Nintendo release ever in the Americas.

In less than two weeks, both versions of the game have shifted a staggering 3.7 million units in the region - an 85 percent increase over Pokémon X & Y, which was the previous record holder for Nintendo's fastest-selling game in the same time frame.

Here's what Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, had to say:

With these huge sales figures, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season. With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokémon series are sure to please any player in the family.

The incredible reaction to Sun and Moon means that all Pokémon-related software has sold more than 280 million units worldwide since the series began back in 1996.
