The 2DS is likely to be a big part of Nintendo's marketing this Holiday season; it's the affordable option that can tempt newcomers while they consider releases like Pokémon Sun and Moon. Nintendo of America has now confirmed two new colour designs on the way, which swap the primary colours from front-to-back.
The video below, it seems, gives a behind-the-scenes look at how hardware design is brought together at Nintendo of America. Well, it makes sense - how else to explain the snappily titled New Galaxy Style New Nintendo 3DS XL?
These models are due out in November, have Mario Kart 7 pre-installed and will cost $79.99. That's a good deal by any standards.
Let us know what you think of the new colours in the comments.

I'm glad I don't have a 2DS.
I actually enjoyed that video!
I may get one, if only to have capture equipment installed on it. I like the new color scheme. It makes more sense to have the colored part on the side you see the most.
Cute video, but MK7 is so OLD now. I wish they'd make a new one for 3DS...
That video was pretty good.
That is a very sweet price. I think I'll get one for my SO. It's gonna be nice to play Mario Kart 7 together
That vid makes no sense, but I like the humour, and it's good to see Nintendo market something.
@TeeJay It makes sense though, it's been their pattern - Wii Mini was sold w/ MKWii (even though Mini didn't have online) and Wii U is bundled w/ MK8 even though that game is old now too. MK is their game to bundle.
I think they continually bundle Mario Kart with their consoles no matter how old the game is (MK7 is going on five years old, what? haha) because it is easy to pick up and play and appeals to nearly everyone out of the box.
My youngest son just got a 2DS with Mario Kart but in the old colors (black & red). He got if for his birthday to replace his 3DS XL (Mario & Luigi SE Silver) with a cracked hinge. I managed to repair it so you can use it, but the right shoulder button is a bit problematic still. Anyways, this is my family's first try with a 2DS. So far it seems well built. If feels good in your hand but the screens are smaller and of course it takes up more space in your pocket. We got it because it's a cheap temporary replacement while we wait with the rest of the world on NX details.
We did try to find a local store with the Yo-Kai Watch game preloaded instead but didn't find one.
I think one thing is that Nintendo's games don't really age the way something like smartphone games or even Sony/Microsoft, with their annual release titles that rapidly depreciate in value, do. If there's only one MK per console per generation, then it doesn't get "old" until the next generation.
MK is also their most recognizable multiplayer franchise, and people often play Nintendo games to share with their families so I think it makes good sense. This might change if Splatoon ever takes off outside Wii U, or if multiplayer Mario ever makes itself known outside the Nintendo fandom, but for now MK is synonymous with "Nintendo multiplayer."
So you have a red and black 2DS and a white and gold 3ds. (If you don't get the reference we can't be friends) 😂😂😀
At first I thought the headline said that they were coming out with a "New 2DS"...and I got stupidly excited for half a second.
Okay, that was reasonably funny.
Anyone else notice the other e-mails Luigi got? I got a kick out of Wario's "Donate to Crowdfarter".
How many variations of red and blue can they make
Anyway that video reminded me of that part in Paper Mario where a bunch of shyguys were screaming and running in the dark.
This is why Nintendo is the best.
Nobody else does this.
No one.
I hope the other colors that are available in Japan come to U.S.
The crystal versions are a favorite.
Oh, good, more red and blue.
too much mario kart
@Jumpman What's up with "Crowdfarter"?
@YouSeemFRAZZLED
really? haha I love that they used real staff looked fun.
And Luigi as boss of ANYTHING is awesome! His desktop background is himself! Lolol
@LemonSlice probably Wario's crowfunding website.
Wait, wasn't Crowdfarter an actual thing Nintendo did online to promote Game & Wario before it launched or something? Like if enough people pledged, it would unlock desktop wallpapers and stuff?
I thought that was quite funny! XD Go Luigi! I also love the other emails Luigi got!
@Meowpheel Where the fee is 99.9%
I may get a 2DS, just to play Sonic Fire and Ice and Sonic Lost World.
But I have no interest in MK7.
If only Luigi would "accidentally" be in charge of more stuff at Nintendo...
It will be interesting to see what the inevitable "budget" version of the NX will look like and how much it will cost. The 2DS's price in North America is amazing for anyone who any new consumers looking to hop into the 3DS ecosystem. Hopefully, the budget version of the NX is just as appealing, just as well priced, and is released earlier during the NX's lifecycle.
A part of me want that 2DS HQ building to be a real thing
@Meowpheel @LemonSlice
Its the fake crowdfunding website for Game & Wario for Wii U.

I agree the color swaps look A LOT better then the previous red and blue 2DS, but would it kill them to offer different colors? I'm very glad I was able to get a sea-green 2DS for $50 when I had the chance.
@Jumpman Saw it too. It's genius...
The new slogan, though... Looks like a NX part... >.>
That's some cool packaging
I'm still getting the sea green one. $80 is a good price. That'll be easy to grab for my boyfriend this Christmas.
The video cracks me up! XD
Does the new 2DS models have the faster hardware of the New 3DS or are they still using the old hardware?
@AmyGrrl 100% sure it's using the old, less expensive hardware.
That's a seriously great deal. And a good ad, too.
Just what is going on at Nintendo? Are they starting to make good decisions again?
@technotreegrass Japan and Europe get all the best 2DS colors.
Funny vid, Luigi got lucky there lol. Regarding the bundle I'm really tempted to trade in my New 3DS XL for this instead; because I don't really use the 3D feature anymore, I don't care for the SNES-exclusive eShop games, and I never got MK7 either.
Lol!
