Hyrule Warriors Legends undoubtedly pushes the 3DS hardware's capabilities, as is clear from its decent performance on New 3DS but chugging framerate on older models. It should serve as no surprise, then, that it's a single player experience on the portable; considering the performance drop on Wii U with local co-op, it's to be expected that the feature is absent in this handheld port.
Koei Tecmo does show, in its latest video showcase, one way to play this game with others; it's a method that fans of Awesome Games Done Quick will appreciate. Sit next to a buddy and play the same level, and whoever finishes first 'wins'.
That's the formula for the video, and at the very least it gives us another look at how the game runs on New 3DS.

Oh right... there's no multiplayer? That sucks... should have known.
But wait, isn't there already a Dynasty Warriors game on 3DS? Does that have multiplayer?
@Moon nope for some reason they don't seem to do co-op in the 3DS games
@abe_hikura I believe it's because the process of setting up 3DS coop capabilities is extremely roundabout and tedious, and most developers just don't want to put in that much effort.
What do people think? Is this going to sell well on 3ds? Like, after all the zelda mega fans buy their copy.
Hmm, I don't think so.
That's weird, considering the Wii U original had co-op, and that was on the same console. You'd think with each player having their own dedicated hardware, multiplayer would be a no-brainer.
two things I've noticed from playing the demo on New 3DS:
Isn't it great how Japan is getting all this info about Hyrule Warriors, and soon, Twilight Princess, whilst everyone else gets nothing?
@CB85 Consider this: in every co-op game that takes place on separate systems, both of them are running the game, as well as sending/receiving data between each other, which puts more strain on the system. Just look at how the game runs on an Old 3DS. I doubt it could handle co-op, and I'm willing to bet that the New 3DS is already at its limit running the game as smoothly as it does, especially in 3D.
Pfftttt should've stayed on the u
@Tsurii and @allav866 True that. Still, a shame. Perhaps they could've restricted multiplayer to New 3DS systems, only running at the lowered framerate of the game on regular 3DS systems. Multiplayer on Wii U causes the TV's image to be rendered at horrible sub-HD resolutions, too.
But that would've convoluted things too much I guess. Ah well.
Meh I don't even think I have any friends getting this game and I don't even have too many friends with a 3ds! Anyway I never thought this did have multiplayer anyway so I'm not bothered still very pumped for this game!
Wait.. What? Co-op is the best thing about Hyrule Warriors, that's what I like about the game. I have this version pre-ordered, but I'm not so sure I'm going to love it as much as I thought.
