Earlier this week we shared the final fundraising total from 2016's Awesome Games Done Quick event, with it reaching a hugely impressive $1.2 million. In that post we mentioned that the "Save or Kill the Animals" Super Metroid vote had raised $311,603.16 all on its own, so we thought it'd be worth sharing.
This was the penultimate run of the week-long event and drew a full crowd in the event's location. In the end Kill the Animals overturned the 2015 result, and the run itself was as entertaining as ever.
The video uploads of the event are now almost completely done - with only Final Fantasy IV still to come - so you can check out a whole range of runs over on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel.

I was actually pretty disappointed with the final run, due to the decision to use "backup saves".
Which are savepoints of a completely different run which are loaded in the event of the current run failing at a highly risky point.
I found this practice really objectionable, for marathon runs they would normally perform a safety save, rather than pulling this stunt.
Like to say a good job to Nintendolife. They seem to be one of the only sites that promoted this event during its actual run.
