Lego Avengers has just been released on Wii U and 3DS in North America and it would seem that it contains a pretty big hint regarding the next Lego-themed video game release.
During the game's credit sequence, Peter "Star-Lord" Quill's cassette player and headset are shown, which - given that the Guardians of the Galaxy don't feature in the game - could be seen as an indication that the superhero team is next for the block-building treatment.
Not convinced? TT Games has a history of teasing its next project in its games. Jurassic World and Indiana Jones were hinted at in the credits for Lego Batman 3 and Lego Star Wars respectively - and neither game had been announced at that point.
The next Guardian of the Galaxy movie comes out in 2017, which would give TT Games enough time to finish off the game, if it is indeed in development. That would presumably put it in contention for a release on NX.
What do you think of this rumour? Could we see a stand-alone Guardians of the Galaxy game to accompany the next film, or do you think this tease is related to Lego Dimensions, and a possible expansion pack for that? Let us know by posting a comment.

They may cover both movies then because it would be odd to start on the second one. This might be a game I would want instead of just my son.
Btw, this is so far down the first page I didn't think there was any new news as of yet today. I believe it's time to clear out a few stories.
LEGO Marvel's Avengers covers such a weird hodge-podge of the films, it wouldn't surprise me if they're working on another one. Especially to drum up interest in the Infinity Gauntlet two-parter film.
@Sabrewing What??? Are they really spliting up the next movie to be 2 parts like so many others have?
I'm still waiting for lego marvel X DC, Tt confirmed they wanted to do that game and that one day it will come but they couldn't share details.
Wake me when Chase McCain is coming back.
Wow. ... that would be the best Lego game ever. For me, at least. Awesome. Lego phylla vell with a giant sword and moondragon that can ' hulk out' into a giant dragon please?
Well they also had some Guardians of the Galaxy characters playable in the first LEGO Marvel game. They showed up after the credits.
Also there is a T-Rex in the Batcave's Trophy Room in LEGO Batman 3 that looks very similar to the Jurassic Park one.
Just please, no more Conan O'Brien! He gets so annoying.
@Spoony_Tech Last I heard they full movies, not like how single books are split into two. They clearly have a single story but no way would they put out a 5 hour movie.
They've got Ant-Man dlc planned but more likely seeing GotG doesn't feature anyone in the team I see it as a stand alone game.
@Spoony_Tech You don't have to trade in your son for the game, it will be $20 in 6 months. Infinity Gauntlet film has always been planned as 2 parts, not like Hobbit which was 2 then they stretched it to 3, but only the first 2 were in the Lego game, and as such we still don't own it, what's the point? And Marvel views their films as all running together anyway, Captain America 3 has so many Avengers in it it looks like Avengers 3.
Lego GotG seems a natural with the new film coming out next year. And probably a Lego Infinity Gauntlet when the 2nd film releases. I'm glad they are still doing the normal Lego games, Dimensions is so expensive we still don't own it yet. I'm kind of waiting to see how they follow it up.
Yeah it will happen. Popular Marvel franchise, of course it will.
@MrGawain Ditto. We might be sleeping a while, though...
@Spoony_Tech List of Marvel Cinematic Universe (that's what they are calling it, no way I make that name up) movies for the next 5 years.

If you've ever wondered why I have such an issue with Ntinedo's release date calendar, or currently lack there of, I've been a Marvel fan since the early 70's, Nintendo since the early aughts.
@Captain_Gonru I would have thought that until I found some interviews where they pretty much outright said Marvel consider the two franchises separate and that they didn't want Guardians of the Galaxy to just be tacked on as it deserves more than that. With the sequel coming out next year, it actually makes a lot of sense as a whole new game.
Considering this game covers the two Avengers films the next game could cover the two Guardians films. And Guardians are out in space, you don't see them running around New York, that's what Lego Marvel Super Heroes is for. I'm just wondering what else they might add because the content might seem a little lacking otherwise.
@Captain_Gonru
It's not DLC for Lego Avengers for 2 reasons.
1. That's not how the Lego games work. When they show something at the end of the game it's for the next game.
Fom the article:
"TT Games has a history of teasing its next project in its games. Jurassic World and Indiana Jones were hinted at in the credits for Lego Batman 3 and Lego Star Wars respectively - and neither game had been announced at that point."
2. They've already announced the DLC for the game, Captain America: Civil War and Ant-Man. Of course we don't know about it b/c it's only for PS3 and PS4, not Wii U, (or Xboxen) but it was announced 2 weeks ago.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/01/13/lego-marvels-avengers-getting-free-dlc-exclusively-for-ps4-ps3/
So while it could technically be DLC, probably nobody has "guessed that yet" b/c it doesn't seem likely. Also not with GotG Vol 2 due out May 2017 (when Star Wars 8 was supposed to be out before they moved that to Dec 2017) which would be the perfect time for a new Lego game encompassing both GotG movies. Expect a Lego Infinity Wars game in May 2019. Or as I like ot call it Lego Thanos. (It rolls off of the tongue better.)
@rjejr I know Deadpool is about to be released but I was surprised it's not on this list. Is it not part of this universe?
@Scapetti aahh, ninja'd again, the curse of typing slow.
"I'm just wondering what else they might add because the content might seem a little lacking otherwise."
Are you talking about Lego Guardians of the Galaxy or Lego Avengers? They've already announced Lego Avengers DLC - see above - for GotG they could add the Thor's universe since at the end after credits end of Thor 2 Dark World a couple of the Thor characters visited the GotG character The Collector. Thor: Ragnarok is due out in Nov after GotG Vol 2, and while it's probably going to be the beginning of Infinity Wars - Infinity Wars Zero if you will, and therefore probably wind up in Lego Infinity Wars in 2019 it could also be DLC for Lego GotG when the Thor film releases. They are adding Captain America to Lego Avengers in May, so its possible they could add Thor at that late date.
All assuming, of course, there is a Lego GotG game.
@rjejr Hmm, Thor Ragnarok stuff kind of could work maybe... I was just thinking about in terms of levels, they're going to stretch the two films to be 15 levels?
@Spoony_Tech My best guess - and this is striclty a hunch, I'll google later, is that as a rated R film it's probably in the same universe as that Punisher movie w/ John Travolta. Or the Daredevil and Electra films. They just pretend they don't exist.
I'm more impressed they've been able to keep all the Marvel movies separate from the X-Men films. I don't watch Agents of Shield but it seems like they are making Inhumans take the place of mutants in there, possibly tieing in to the Inhumans film. Which i sfine, I've always like Black Bolt, but I guess my point is, if they can ignore 9 mutants films, they can ignore Deadpool.
Ooh, lightbulb moment, I'm even more of an idiot before caffeine - Deadpool was in the 2009 Wolverine movie, he's a mutant, I forgot, he's in the disassociated X-film universe. I'm going to go drink caffeine now before I post anything else stupid.
@rjejr Thanks for the umm history lesson lol.
Spoilers?
Now this could be a Lego franchise game that I'd really buy. Unless there will be a standalone Guardians of the Galaxy game.
Sigh. I like the lego games but can we get a non lego comic game? (goes back to replay marvel ultimate alliance )
@Captain_Gonru Funny, I thought there already was a Lego Back to the Future game. Don't know how there isn't, an iconic 3 movie series. They did Pirates and Indiana Jones. To late now I suppose w/ Lego D.
@Spoony_Tech Well you asked. Kinda sorta
Hopefully when NX launches it will be worth discussing Lego games again. Too many DLC packs not coming to Wii U, both Lego Batman 3 and Lego Avengers. I can't imagine ever buying another Lego game on Wii U. One reason we don't have Lego Dimensions yet is b/c of afraid if there is no Lego D 2, just DLC, it might skip Wii U, so I'm waiting to own a PS4.
The previous Lego Marvel game also had the team appearing after you beat the game, so I wouldn't say it's necessarily hinting at a sequel.
@Captain_Gonru I remember when I heard about the Telltale game I was sure someone screwed up and asked the wrong team... haha. Not that I don't like Telltale, I mean they brought back Monkey Island!
@Captain_Gonru Didn't know it was new Inhumans, though that makes sense. Probably turns out they are related somehow. As I've mentioned we're not watching AoS, we watched the first 3 or 4 but it was too "tv" for my wife. Now that we have 3 DC shows and GoT every spring, and the Mets resigned Cespedes, my free time is booked. I really need to finish XCX so I can play Bayonetta 2 before baseball starts.
