Some of you with longer memories may remember Ghost Song: A Journey of Hope. The upcoming 2D action game began life as a flash project before the developer chose to set up a Kickstarter. Ghost Song takes inspiration from Super Metroid and Dark Souls, but unfortunately it is not currently on its way to any consoles. That being said, there are plans to bring the game to consoles after it releases on Steam, so perhaps there's still hope for a Wii U port, yet.
At any rate, Old Moon Games has just released a new video showcasing some gameplay and the creepy environments that set the stage. Ghost Song looks much darker than the typical Metroid game, but it still manages to capture that sense of isolation very well. Take a look:
What do you think? Would you like to see this on the Wii U some day? Do you think Nintendo will ever do another 2D Metroid game? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Been following it since announce. This game is gonna be wicked, and after just finishing Axiom Verge, I can't wait to get my hands on more metroid-like goodness. Theres some other really great footage on his youtube channel.
Can't wait for this game. Indie devs like these make up for Nintendo's lack of support for the Metroid franchise.
3DS please with 3D effects. Wii-U would be cool too. It looks great
cripes, i would LOVE to play this game. it looks right up my alley. you know, it really wouldn't hurt for them to release a new 2D metroid every once in a while. especially if they've given up on making metroid prime games. ah well. same goes for castlevania. the 2D ones were always the best (no offense LoS).
Geez, finally.. I've helped kickstart it years ago. I hope they will still consider it for wiiu.
After all that time I would've thought the main character to look less stiff in it's animation. It looks a bit odd the way they aim up and turn left and right. Left and right needs some transition animations.
I don't know why? But I've enjoyed indies more then most big titles this year. Batman AK, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Bloodborne and almost maybe Rise of Tomb Raider.
I've enjoyed Freedom Planet, Orc and Blind Forest, Affordable Space Adventures, Don't Starve,AVGN, Runbow more.
Can't wait for this. and NEO fast Racing, Shantae, Earthlock Festival of Magic
I don't like games like this on wich 75% of the screen is pure black
Super Metroid didn't needed this to make it eerie and atmospheric
I'm really up for this and I love the more horror-esque vibe to it. And seeing as how Ninty isn't currently doing anything with Metroid and Konami hates video games, then this is very welcome.
Looks great. Definite Metroid vibe with what looks like strong gameplay too.
So this news basically amounts to "a game that's not coming to any Nintendo platforms whatsoever will release on PC; who knows, maybe it'll hit consoles later"?
It does look nice, but not something I'd say warrants NintendoLife coverage.
Music sounds perfect for the game. Looks pretty good too.
Never heard of this, looks really cool though and I definetly appreciate any game that tries to do Metroid.
I hope my computer can run this.
@RCMADIAX
I for one appreciate showing off some interesting releases that I might not have heard of. Especially the release is trying to fill the massive gap left by Metroid(vania).
Oh wow this looks really really good... Really hoping this comes to Wii u or dare I say 3DS. Still would love Adiom Verge on 3DS as well... Here's to hoping!
@vonseux That's just one area that looks like that. Others are more lighted, like the planet's surface.
Super metroid had lots of those dark sections. Remember those flying lantern things that would make the room pitch black of all killed?
@TerrapinJess The kickstarter had failed to reach the wiiu goal. But the author said he'd still try anyway. But time has passed so much since.. Might has well be on NX considering that game is not to be out soon yet.
Just happy Armikrog will be on wiiu at least.
@ricklongo The author did try to kickstart it on wiiu by making it a stretch goal. It failed but they said they'll try to make it happen anyway (years ago).
That still screen shot reminds me of the classic Space Quest artwork.
I remember when this was being developed with stencyl!
yeah ive had my eyes on this one for a while...
