This week's Jump magazine has fresh details relating to the forthcoming Square Enix 3DS RPG Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3.
First up is the storyline, which is set in the far-flung future. The hero is a young man suffering from amnesia (original!) who discovers a device known as a "Reactor" which allows him to analyse the monsters which stalk the land. Thus begins a quest to regain lost memories and essentially befriend as many beasties as possible.
Over 500 such monsters will be included in the game, and you'll be able to ride each and everyone of them - provided you make them your pal first, of course. This opens up the gameworld in interesting ways, as flying or sea-based monsters will allow you to reach places you couldn't previously.
Jump also reveals that there will be some kind of competitive multiplayer element in the game. Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 is currently in development with no solid release date.

And it sadly won't come over to America or Europe. Or most likely won't.
No chance of this coming over if they don't even consider mainline DQ games to be profitable enough So sad.
Yay, another 3DS Dragon Quest game. Oh wait, forget I said anything.
The title is misleading because you is directed at us, but we life in never gonna get this game lands.
Looks like something i'd want to play. It probably won't leave Japan though.
Ditto with all the comments and it that makes me sick to my stomach 😩
A bit surprised by all the pessimism given that DQM Joker and DQM Joker 2 both made it to the west just fine... Or am I missing something here?
@LUKEKUL That's true but it was also last generation. The DS had a huge install base so localisation wasn't such a big risk. The DQ games on DS didn't sell as well as expected in the West and now the potential audience is pretty much a quarter of what it was back then, so SE doesn't think they'll make money. These spin-offs are probably less likely than the mainline games like 7 and 8, but they don't even have plans to bring those over.
Bring it to NA! I bought the first 2!
I've bought and enjoyed games in the DQM series, but nobody I know plays it so it kinda loses its appeal, meanwhile a lot of people are playing Pokémon and it's at the point where even if it gets localized I won't be getting it.
@LUKEKUL
Square Enix has basically not brought over about 10 Dragon Quest games now. It's just not worth anyone's time to get hyped at all.
@LUKEKUL I'm going to be optimistic too, DQM 1 and 2 came out in Europe too, I really like the sound of this one too. Hope it gets a Western release.
I don't know, usually with DQM titles besides the first original 2, there was little reference to the main series. so this would give SE the chance to localize bosses as is whilst avoiding mentioning anything from the main series. like the first GB Monsters game had you as a younger version of DQVI's Terry that's the only major link. (you know, barring Caravan Heart taking place sometime before 7 but the world being 2's)
But with Joker, there's an entire new world with next to no continuity lockout or crossover besides a few things like the Schleiman Tank from Rocket Slime. in modern times chances are DQM Joker has more prominence than just Monsters. wonder if the monstercount is counting everything that was carried from Joker 2 Pro to Monsters Wonderland.
Dragon Quest Heroes has come out today so I'm not going to completely write off the series' chances in the west just yet. If it sells well enough XI may be released but for all the 3DS games I suspect S-E will be wondering if the market is viable enough at this point in time.
I just want them to bring over the Dragon Quest VII and VIII remakes for the 3DS. #WhenHellFreezesOver
I'd get excited, if it wasn't for the fact that we probably won't ever get to see this game in the West.
oh man, I need some glasses, for a moment I thought the headline was DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: JOKER 3 WILL CONTAIN OVER 500 BREASTS FOR YOUR BOYFRIEND
Don't know what to say really that hasn't been said before. Really want, along with the other seven Dragon Quest games. Won't be able to get. Squeenix are idiots.
Played one of these on the 3DS, got bored quickly.
But I remember a really interesting feature, that had to do with monster fusions.
We are so far behind in DQ localized releases, not much else to say other than "well, I hope this will get released". Just for my own sanity, am I missing any?:
-DQ VII (3DS)
-DQ VIII (3DS)
-DQ X (Wii/Wii U/PC)
-Theatrhythm: DQ (3DS)
-DQ Monsters 1 (3DS)
-DQ Monsters 2 (3DS)
-Rocket Slime 3 (3DS)
JP Upcoming:
-DQ XI
-DQ Builders
-DQ Heroes 2
-DQ Monsters: Joker 3
Pictures look like what many people first expected out of pokemon gen 6. Perhaps for gen 7?
