The 'green blob' Pokémon has intrigued fans since it emerged earlier in the year, and now there's a much better idea of what it represents in a key CoroCoro reveal. In addition there's the announcement that 29th October will see the start of Pokémon XY & Z, an evolution of the current anime series.
The announcement reveals various new forms of Legendary Pokémon Zygarde; the image below shows Zygarde 10% Forme (the dog-like creature) with sharp teeth and speed, Zygarde 50% Forme and the main feature - Zygarde Perfect Forme, the 'Order' Pokémon. Its height is 4.5m and weighs 610 kg; it's a Dragon/Ground-type and apparently exceeds Xerneas and Yveltal in terms of power. The 'blob' is the Zygarde Core, and functions as the mind / brain of these forms.
Also in that image above is a new-look Greninja, loosely called 'Ash Greninja'.
In addition, below is a poster for the new anime series, which will kick off with the previously announced Mega Evolution Anime special.
Are you excited about this, and the upcoming start of the adjusted 'Z' anime; do you think this points the way for a potential new Z entry to arrive next year? Let us know what you think.

Pokemon Z confirmed?
Okay, this makes no sense at all. How does a dog turn into a snake dragon!? And then turns into Optimus Prime? Haha
Serena and Bonnie looking as Kawaii as ever .
Anyways, I'm interested to see more of the anime, I've really enjoyed this series so far.
Dude! A gundam! And a...gundog? I can dig it.
Wow... Now that's what I call a transformation! Zygarde, Assemble!
Ohhhhhhhhhhh, I just realized that Perfect Zygarde's mouth makes the French flag... The flagship legendaries of this gen also have the colors to match: Xerneas = Blue, Zygarde = White, Yveltal = Red. Also based on the poster the Anistar City landmark will finally have some use.
Ash is a Greninja?!?!!!?!
Well, if it wasn't already certain that there would be more 6th gen games in Kalos, this pretty much makes it certain. I like the image of the Perfect Form, but I'm curious how it'll look in the games.
Definitely looking forward to Pokémon Z.
With this reveal, I can assure you The Pokémon Company and Nintendo will do an "official reveal" of this on their YouTube channel. I'm expecting some kind of trailer by the 15th.
So, Pokémon Z is all but confirmed, I guess. Looking foward to it. The new Zygarde looks pretty cool.
So, is Perfect Zygarde the result of Zygarde fusing with Android 17 and Android 18?
Also, I still like its snake form better.
Oh, and what did they do to Greninja? That looks terrible.
Bring on TGS! I really hope they announce pokemon Z.
I figured a while back that the green blob had something to do with Zygarde, based on the coloration.
This has rebooted my Pokemon Hype Meter, and I can't wait for the next entry in the series!
This looks really cool!
So...
Let me guess: the next Pokemon main series game is gonna be called either Pokemon Z or Pokemon ZX & ZY.
Huh.
@GeminiSaint I was thinking more of Freizas perfect form, which would make shiny Perfect Zygarde a gold colour...
Wow! Zygarde looks awesome! I can only imagine the defensive stats that guy has in that new form. And "Ash Greninja" looks awesome too! I can see it becoming an event Pokemon sometime.
So confused. Does this confirm Z or no?
@Nintendo_Ninja only suggests at an Z entry. Cant really use the anime show/film as a guide for the games. I'm still waiting for my crystal oynx
@Lugia think the idea here is that only the green blob is "it" the others being closer to bodies it hijacks
@GeminiSaint think that might be Ash in Greninja form
Does this mean that Lysandre (and maybe team flare) will make a appearance in the anime?
Ash's spirit pokemon is greninja confirmed
Optimus Zygarde?
Michael Bay isn't helping with this show in any way....is he?
Damn, 4Kids and GameFreak reached a new level of dumb with these Zygarde transformations... so, to cut it short, Zygarde's "lower" form is a dog for hell knows what reason, his main form has lost it's last ounce of significance, his final form looks stupid as hell, and the symbolism established between the GenVI legendaries was just a one-trick pony. Good to see they haven't lost that ability of wasting unbelievable amounts of potential over what amounts to the Dragon Ball Z formula of suspense: this isn't even my final form.
Zygarde's final mega evolution god form.
Pretty obvious they were Zygarde-related, but good to get a confirmation. These designs are dumb and ugly though. Pokemon has a history of weird evolutions and forms, but this is going too far. How does something to from dog to snake to standing....thing and still be considered a dragon?
Also i think i guessed sometime before that the small one is like the main body or something.
I love these new Zygarde forms! They make no sense...which is genius considering that this pokemon is known as the Order Pokemon. Chaos and order. Love itm
@Lugia The same way fish can turn into a snake, octopus, etc.
CONFIRMED CONFIRMED CONFIRMED. IT SAYS NOTHING ABOUT THE GAME BUT IT'S CONFIRMED EITHER WAY.
Here is how the evolution makes sense. They are based off of Loki's kids from Norse mythology.
1. Fenrir (dog 10%)
2. Jormungandr (the world serpant 50%)
3. Hel (half dead, half alive lady thing. Notice the red and blue from Xerneas and Yvetal- perfect form)
The more you know. Source: wikipedia. Look up lokis children.
@DarthNocturnal
True. But it wouldnt make sense for nidhogg to be Zygarde simply because he isnt one of Lokis sons. However! Both nidhogg and jormungandr are both serpants at least. Plus jormungander is a world serpant which is Zygardes role. Nidhogg is essentially a glorified termite feasting on Yggdrasil's roots.
@DarthNocturnal The actual Pokémon designs are GameFreak's job, but stuff that is used specifically for the animé production, like the "core", which is stated to exist next to Zygarde's actual body, aren't designated Pokémon, so it's very likely 4Kids came up with that.
As for the mythological connection, sure, the dog form could be Fenrir, but Fenrir has barely any connection to the central Yggdrasil mythos, and giants weren't particularly close to it, either. The Yggdrasil mythos is the existential ground of the norse mythology, but many of the norse gods are more indirectly involved with it (well, except Loki, I suppose). Moreover, it simply raises way too many inconsistencies to see Zygarde assume multiple non-connected roles for "reasons". I'm gonna wait until the movie's actually out before calling the final verdict, but I'm not seeing this becoming a good addition to the already broken Pokélore (thanks, OR/AS).
@Kaze_Memaryu 4Kids has no connection to Pokemon. They haven't handled the anime dub since Gen 3. After Gen 3, 4Kids dropped Pokemon. TPCi handles the anime dub themselves now. Besides, even when 4Kids handled the anime dub, that's all they did. They had no influence over Pokemon design choices.
Marginally disappointed, if I'm honest. Didn't want Z, wanted a BRAND NEW GAME! And isn't it like Pokemons 25th Anniversary (I might be way off) next year? Either way, I was hoping for something more impressive. This basically confirms Z, but oh well.
It's a Gundam!! dies
Nintendo ruined Pokemon IMO.
@DarthNocturnal
Ack! You're right.
@TheActualGold
Sorry to kill your moment but zygardes "mouth" doesnt make the french flag if you zoom in on the pic you'll notice it starts purple then goes aqua blue, white, orange and finishes with red.
Oh look, it's not the original dragon like so many people thought it was
@Miles_Edgeworth Next year is Pokemon's 20th anniversary.
@ningeek185 Love your sarcasm.
@Link777_ Let's call that shading... I refuse to believe that color arrangement wasn't intentional. The orange and purple don't show up anywhere else on the body, so it could be for blending. Either way, it looks neat.
What...? I'm a hardcore Pokemon fan and have eaten up everything they've announced over the years, but I'm actually pretty disappointed by this. Perfect Zygarde looks like a transformer, and what were they thinking with Dogarde? It's supposed to be a snake... Also, what the heck is Ash Greninja? Like WHAT?
The dog is based on hells dog from norse mythology. Zydoge comfirmed?
@TheActualGold It could be Redshift and Blueshift, since the middle is white. Perhaps Zygarde's Perfect Cell form is moving so fast that's the colors we perceive?
@Kylo_Ren I'm quite serious. Out off the reason why the franchise is ruined, probably the number one reason is because the games are too easy.
Also, the new Pokemon are downright terrible.
@ningeek185 Right...like gen 1 didnt have three magnets put together, literally a seal called seel, a mime, and nicki minaj.
@Hachiko Fine, stick with your keychain lol
@ningeek185 You leave him out of this he's sensitive! Lol I like that thing for real though...so derpy. Personally I think there need to be derpy pokemon to balance out the cool ones. Some should be simple in design, some should be complicated, and some should be stupid! Ever see a real animal and think, "Man that thing looks dumb (like poodles)" Like that, but with pokemon.
Otherwise we just get a bunch of edgy, over the top, wake me up inside, kingdom hearts, hot topic, bullcrap. Then there's no balance. I love the over the top design with this thing. But the Ash Greninja...I don't get.
I find this underwhelming.
I'm more concerned with the Mega Sceptile standing between Ash's newly evolved Noivern and his Greninja which would mean he gets mega Sceptile and not a Charizard.....
And suddenly, Zygarde became one of my favorite new Pokemon.
@Samuel-Flutter So... you're saying we cannot grasp the true form of Zygarde's attack?!
I don't really have a problem with the designs, but why a dog for the 10% form? The only thing I can see is Zygarde being based on single-cell organisms gives them a convenient excuse to include other creatures from the world tree legends.
@John_Enigma
The games are based on axis, so it won't be ZX or ZY.
@Zombie_Barioth So just Pokemon Z?
@Kaze_Memaryu I'm fairly certain than 4-Kids didn't design Zygarde.
@ningeek185 Geodude is a rock with arms.
My first thought on Greninja was, "Gen 6 Megas confirmed?". Its kinda subtle for that but it would fit the "rogue/ninja" theme. I've figured that they're coming for all the starters, and it isn't the first time one Mega starter got revealed ahead of the others.
@Hachiko THAT I can agree with. Imagine having a bunch of Yuh-Gi-Oh and Bakugan BS clotting the Pokedex. I'd hate it if we had 700...oh wait, there's too many Pokemon so I forgot how many there are...almighty gargantuan warriors. Because I'd really hope this wasn't something out of Transformers.
Oh, and yes, Ash Greninja is the largest piece of bullcrap that I've seen from Nintendo since the Miiverse update. THAT was bad.
@amiiboacid Trubbish is a garbage bag.
@ningeek185 and Muk and Grimer are basically sewage and pollution.
@crimsontadpoles wait, that means...
Zygarde=Cell !!!
Pokemon Z confirmed!
I see a lot of comments regarding how broken zygarde will be (not just here, everywhere)
I don't think Zygarde Perfect will be completely broken or even close to mega salaquaza. The third legend's forms often just get a small switcheroo in stats, a new move, or an ability change. Giratina Origin kept the same BST, and simply became the more offensive version of it's more defensive counter part, Giratina Altered. Kyurem combined with Zekrom and Reshiram to make two pokemon, and thus gained a small stat increase and new moves, with one of the form even considered underwhelming enough to be in common fan based metagames. This might be the case here... with Zygarde 50% being the more defensive counter part (why was it cursed with aura break.. that's as bad as a mega with magician), Zygarde Perfect being the more offensive counter part, Zygarde 10% being the speedier counter part, and cell/core just existing like carbink.
So does Zygarde have forms for every 10% of power? If so, that's pretty epic. Strangely, I don't really care for any of his forms save for the 'blob' form. XD
I just don't understand why they came up with the weird gimmicky names of the forms..
Core
Cell
10%
50%
Perfect
I would say "one of things is not like the other!" but almost all of them have 0 relation bar the percents (which really, why 10 and 50? Why not 25 and 75? or atleast 25 and 50?).
The %s just throw the whole thing off.. and then we have what the actual transformations are:
A grub
Another grub
A dog
A snake
A Giant..
So a grub/bunch of grubs become a k-9 with legs, then the k-9 loses it's legs and becomes a snake with a different head, then the snake grows back it's legs, and gets arms? Ok, I can see the relationship between Perfect and 50%, 50% looks like it has incomplete deoxys arms, the tail is there, the frills could become "wings" and the head can undergo some kind of change like giratina's.. the legs kind ruin what I liked zygarde for, a serpent, but no biggy. The dog is what seems out of place as there is 0 characteristic traits between core and 50% or even perfect except texture and color that represent zygarde.
But this image is too adorable for me to hate on it, so it's fine in my book.
II'm almost sure 10% and 50% aren't the final english names. I think it will be something like: canine and serpent form. Cell and perfect sound nice.
The core and the cells have to combine together to even form a Zygarde at 0% of it's maximum potential power. They're the building blocks of the lifeform, you could say. I assume that the "perfect' is a Zygarde battling at 100% of it's potential power.
@DarthNocturnal That'd be just as sad, and as I pointed out before, their usual practice of wasting potential left and right.
I know all too well I'm overthinking it, but ever since the bull OR/AS pulled in the Delta Episode, I'm getting increasingly sour on how poorly GameFreak treats the Pokélore.
@IceClimbers Really? Cause I'm pretty sure they're still writing the plot, like they did from the start. And here in germany, 4Kids is still credited with producing Pokémon.
@amiiboacid I didn't say so, either. I was referring to the core, which is apparently not a Pokémon of its own, but a part of Zygarde (kinda like with Kyurem needing the DNA stake to transform into Black/White Kyurem).
@Matt-chan Except it doesn't. Ash's Sceptile always has the straw in it's mouth with it even when in battle. This seems to promote his rival Sawyer who is bound to evolve his Grovyle and get a Megastone + keystone.
Imagine all this happened and then there wasn't a Pokemon Z game 😫
I'd love to see some new evolutions for existing Pokemon, not just mega evolutions. Wonder what new features we'll get, if some things will have to go from X Y. How much game can you fit on a cartridge?
@Fandabidozi Well X and Y are 1.7 GB each and OR and AS are 1.8 GB each. I'm not sure how much a 3DS card can hold, but I understand it's above 2 GB because of Monster Hunter.
Yay that probably means we're finally getting Pokemon Z! I lovvvveeee Kalos!
@LztheQuack
Ah gotcha. I could live withought the restaurant battles personally but I can't think of anything else I'd want to lose.
Hope this means new main series games next year. Well at least Super Mystery Dungeon will keep me busy till then.
That has to be the weirdest set of evolutions I've ever seen.
@John_Enigma
Probably, since Z is a 3rd dimension in between X and Y. Unless they want to try and say ZX and ZY represent new ways of looking at the same ideas. X&Y are all about different ways of thinking.
@Kaze_Memaryu
Its probably just a dub thing, DuArt Film & Video took over for 4Kids in NA in 2006. I wouldn't have a clue if they're still up to their old tricks or not.
@MegaBeedrill Possibly in the form of dog would be the representation of Garm, the guard dog of Niflheim in Norse mythology
Now I'm absolutely confused as to what Zygarde actually was this whole time....
