Not too long ago Nintendo headed to Facebook's headquarters for a Super Mario Maker Hackathon, in which employees of the company tackled the game to try and create their own levels. The winner, 'Ship Love', will be included with the final game when it's released on 11th September.
Nintendo Minute's latest video covers the event, giving an insight into how the various teams set about planning levels - thumbs up for going old school with graph paper - and then showing off the levels from the three finalists. There are some cool designs, including that winning level that we'll all get to play.
Check it out below.

Yay, Nin Min!
@Robotron2084 I'm pretty sure the length is going to be customisable/infinite, if they're going to even start competing with free Mario level designers like Super Mario Bros. X. However I know some things won't be available, I don't think scrolling levels (airships and those towers where the lava chases you) are being included at launch anyway.
I can never get enough of this game.
Also, this has nothing to do with you guys but the video is unfortunately a good 2 seconds behind the sound.
@Robotron2084
You described the exact same way I feel about this game.
You can make a level using two planes and it appear the planes can be very long, and can be split up to make the appearance of more than two
@Robotron2084
Well with warp pipes I think it's infinite
As far as I know it's 2 areas (2 sections split by a pipe) so yeah, fairly long + you can make scrolling levels
If i remember correctly, in the IGN plays Super Mario Maker video it shows 2 screens tall and 10 screens across... so 20 screens all up BUT you have an underworld you can access via pipes/doors so the level can be 40s screens. As mentioned there is scrolling levels as they showed that feature in the video too and there are 4 speed settings. I haven't seen tower levels so don't think you will be able to make those types of tall levels, at least not at release.
All 3 of these levels look nice, and I agree with their winning choice. Hopefully they could release codes to download the other finalist levels as well.
I didn't see this game being that appealing when Mario Maker was first announced since I'm not creative, but I'm now hyped for this. Playing everyone's creations is going to be fantastic.
Oh how I hate it when they don't show the exciting levels but instead some boring stuff for four minutes. And then when you've skipped that part and they actually show you the levels, those two can't stop talking and just when you're beginning to enjoy what you see, someone screems into the microphone like they're dying. Ouch, my ears!
So far I disliked every Nintendo Minute video because of those two. They're not only really bad at gaming (like noob-level bad), but also extremely annoying (especially the girl). Still one occasionally watches the Nintendo Minute videos because of their sometimes exclusive content.
@fromthedale I actually asked at Gamescom yesterday and they told me you can do as many underworlds as you want in one level. I don't know if they were misinformed but that's what they said...it would be really amazing!
Can't wait to get my hands on this game!
#2 shoulda won!
Yeah looking forward to this one ... The beginning was interesting for to see the programmers and the other employees work but after that I just can't watch those two...
@shani To be fair, it'd be difficult to play well and keep a talk show going at the same time. However, I've always felt like the dynamic (or lack thereof) was always awkward between the two hosts.
Nintendo Life videos are vastly superior. I gave up on this partway through them playing the first finalist.
@bob1994 Yeah that's true, although the guy handles it better than the girl there. I also found the chemistry between them awkward, it sometimes feels really forced.
I want one of those question block stools. Nice!
