Flowers are great. Not only do they make our gardens look presentable, they're perfect for smoothing over stormy relationships with loved ones. In fact, they're so versatile they may be integral to the future of the Pokémon series, according to The Pokémon Company International's Director of Consumer Marketing J.C. Smith.
Speaking to Nintendo World Report at the recent 2015 Pokémon World Championships in Boston, Smith was asked to give a hint at the future of the franchise:
NWR: And last but not least, can you just throw a cryptic word out there? Just anything. Something will get me to scratch my head. That, like, in eight months I'll go, 'That's what he was talking about!
Smith: Flowers.
What could this one-word answer possibly mean? Could it be a hint at the setting for the next Pokémon outing, presumably on 3DS? Or could it be related to a new type of Pokémon, or an existing pocket monster which will be pushed to the forefront? Or could Smith merely have been having a little joke?
We have no idea, so why don't you let us know your theory by placing it in fresh soil, watering it regularly and allowing it to grow into a beautiful comment below?

But what he didn't say was "Not X and Y", and we know Kalos looooves flowers.
So here are my hopes and dreams, they're going to cock it up again.
Pokemon Tulip and Pokemon Hemp, set in analogue for Holland.
Obviously.
(Or more likely, Pokemon Red Rose and White Rose, set in analogue for the UK)
They're talking about the Ranger series spinoff, Pokemon Hydrangea.
Slow day?
@Moon slow day, and its still early
Would have been excited if he said something like "Funyarinpa" tho.
AZ's Floette? Or could it mean Pokemon Z or Pokemon X2/Y2?
Now I get it.! AZ floette is from The Netherlands, thatt's why az is so long. Netherlands comfirmed!!!
"Pikachu and his garden" Coming in 21st March 2016 (Northern Hemisphere).
Why 21st March? Guess .
@DontPlayDumb spring?
Mega Sunflora here we go!
Pokémon Snap!
Why? Because I want it!
@kupocake
White rose! I'd buy that! not sure about this Lancastrian red crap though, who'd want to buy that.
Grass-types? Confirmation that we of team Bulbasaur were right all along? I don't know.
Could be a hint to the setting of the next game. A region based on another European country comes to mind. The Netherlands is the one probably most associated with flowers. Or maybe France, hinting at another Kalos game.
Ash abandons Pikachu forever and replaces him with a Lilligant.
It's not like flowers haven't held a role in the games before.
The Gracidea flower is what allows Shaymin to transform to its Sky forme.
Maybe it's a teaser for a Gen IV remake?
Probably too far-fetched though.
@Torterror Jup this makes so much sense now
AZ is tall - Tallest people in the world (Dutch) (The Netherlands)
Az's Floette is different so it lives in another area. What country is known for their flowers (The Netherlands)
AZ is a football/soccer club in (The Netherlands)
Maybe AZ is from north of Kalos(France)
So the new gen 6 games can be in Kalos but with Benelux (Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg )integrated

@Moon Meh, perfect excuse to throw Bonnie's cute face onto the newsfeed. XD
Probably hinting at new Pokemon Florges and Pokemon Belossom games.
In actual seriousness, I guess AZ and his Floette will have a greater role in X and Y sequels.
Oh Pokemon. U so mysterious.
I've watched the episode where that image with Bonnie and Flabébé came from, it's the 27th episode of the XY series. XD
so why is Flabébé not a Grass type anyway.
Ehh, I know we already have a Grass / Fairy with Whimsicott, so no worries about missing out or anything...
But still kinda weird that a Pokémon so closely associated with plantlife is not a grass type, especially when the "pile of eggs lol" Pokémon Exeggcute IS a grass type for whatever reason.
Fairies like flowers, and flowers are represented by grass types and grass types are weak against fire, so....fairy types will finally be weak against fire?
I really hope this is what this means, so that we can finally kill these demonic abominations WITH FIRE.
A long shot... but maybe Pokemon Snap for Wii U? It'd be such a shame to not take advantage of the gamepad as it would be such a perfect fit for the title. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed!
Pokemon Rose and Pokemon Violet confirmed.
I'm guessing Z.
Pokémon Leaf Green 3D confirmed.
"Flowers"
jumps ship F**k that. xD
It probably has something to do with that Floette that wasn't officially released.
That's nice. I like flowers.
Inb4 Pokemon Rose Version and Pokemon Violet Version.
@kupocake Like the idea for Red Rose and White Rose (UK) games.
Maybe one big, new route in Pokemon Z which is filled entirely with flowers and AZ Floette.
Xerneas is a tree and yveltal is a flower apparently. Perhaps we're getting "Z" in eight months and zygarde is also based on a plant.
AZ's floetta also could play a role..
Perhaps the detective game about something related to flower Pokémon? I mean there is still the mystery of Looker having amnesia.
I have a feeling that the next Pokémon game will be released by mid-2016 as opposed to the years' end, particularly if it's an insubstantial Pokémon Z release.
Here's hoping for Mega Bellossom and Vileplume (and Primal Reversion Magikarp, maybe?).
Legendary flowers as the flagship Pokes, with the third FINALLY being an Insect-Dragon type. lol
Seriously, why haven't they done this yet, I want a insect dragon! TwT
@MegaBeedrill False. Yveltal is a cocoon. Zygarde is most likely a larva.
My guess is another trip to Kalos, since there's one more axis left (Z). I doubt it will actually be an actual 3rd game though, but rather a sequel of some sorts again.
Or more likely it has something to do with the eternal Floette. It could even be both, and Floette has an event in the next game(s) similar to Victini.
@BlatantlyHeroic Zygarde has never been introduced with any background information yet outside the pokedex.
I'll give you yveltal is a cocoon though, but a lot of people interperate yveltal as a flower blooming when it wakes from it's cocoon. (Similar to the pattern on AZ's floetta, and how the ultimate weapon is in the shape of a flower.) Although I have seen more offical claims pointing as a cocoon.
@Torterror
Yes.
So there will be a new Flower-type class of Pokémon then, I guess.
