Splatoon's new Tower Control game mode has been released to the public, and as with any new set of rules it can take a while to learn how best to approach the matter.
That's why we've played and played since silly o' clock in the morning in order to better understand the ins and outs and more importantly deliver our findings and strategies directly to you in this handy video.

Tower Mode is pretty one-sided: pick a high fire rate weapon that barely slows you down, rush past the tower and splatter the Bad Guys as they all try to secure the tower blindly.
I played 10 Tower matches in a row, and every time, the team I was with won in a single streak, with me using that very method without exception. And that was the first time I actually went Ranked at all.
If you're on the tower, it's usually a good idea to hide behind the pillar in the middle of the tower because it will block enemy fire unless someone is using a blaster.
Since this is Ranked Battles, what I need is a focused team with half a brain. I admit I was half asleep early this morning when I made this video, but the tip I have to share is: Use those Ink mines up on the tower. USE THEM!
Nice tips going to make a Top Ten Tower Control Weapons video real soon! (seeing as I am kind of the authority on Splatoon weapon ranking ;} )
@Kaze_Memaryu your rank a c-.Higher ranked battles are crazy.
@Kaze_Memaryu Wait till you get to A rank, the battles are freaking insane.
@Shiryu ...and use shoes with Bomb Sniffer, so you can see the other teams mines and the various other bombs they may hurl at you from behind.
I'm finding the roller to be the best weapon in tower control. Specifically, the default roller that comes with the suction bombs and the killer wail. It's a perfect combo for this mode and I say this as someone who hadn't played with the roller (outside of Amiibo challenges) since the week the game was released.
Explosives are a must.
@DrawingPower I've been using the roller with the kraken for ranked battles and I gotten good at it. (Currently rank b) but for tower control I just can't find a strategy yet. But good on you.
Tower control is insane, I had matches where everyone in the game splatted and got splatted over ten times XD
And luckily I didn't have to change weapon, in these days I'm using the roller and it proved to be very effective, a great weapon for help the tower reach the goal or for quickly retrieve it; then again I tried different weapons and saw many good players, any weapon is perfect for this mode if you know how to use it.
Suction bomb rush is amazing with an experienced player to make your enemy scatter or to just onslaught the tower itself, the roller is amazing launching waves of ink or if super jumping on the tower but that's about it, and lastly seekers can be slightly beneficial on certain maps to travel to the tower early on with that fast thing making a line not to mention it can be launched to scout ahead.
The squelchers/dual squelchers are great in this, if you have good aim. In particular, the Custom Dual Squelcher with the killer wail is excellent for both Tower Control and Splat Zones.
Also, when using a Blaster or other weapon that does not build up your special very fast, I recommend using gear with Tenacity, which will make your special gauge fill whenever anyone on your team is killed~
Tower Control really introduced a whole new level of complexity and thought to Splatoon.
My brother has been using the Luna Blaster and has averaged about 15 KOs per match with it (his best was 36).
That video has a lot of good levels in it, too bad last night I had 3 or 4 matches, only 1 on Urchin underpass, the rest in the warehouse, where very little strategy is involved. Between rotating splat zone w/ tower control and only 2 levels at a time it's going to be very weird playing this. At least all day Saturday I can just lay turf war w/ my aerospray and not think about anything.
You can't pick if you want Splat Zone or Tower Control mode, I CALLED IT. What kind of apes are making these design decisions?
Tower mode is awful, I just want to play Splat Zones mode. On the map of my choice. In a non-ranked setting. The game is really fun, but hooooly cow is it flawed.
@Fazermint I've just discovered that myself. Can that that really be the case? It's absurd, when will we get to play splat zones again? I know what you mean, the game is so incredibly fun but Nintendo seems to be doing their utmost to make it less fun.
@luke88 It'll probably be part of the rotation after a couple of days, with a 50/50 chance of each mode. 1/2 modes and 2/8 levels available at a time... that's 12,5% of the content available. So I guess you could say this game lives up to 12,5% of its potential. Or 6,6% when the last mode and last two maps are added.
I first tried to used the Kelp SplatterScope and I would always go on the tower. It never worked out. I then switched to the Forge Splattershot Pro and for me it makes it a lot easier to get kills when on the tower.
I got a new record of 23 kills and 10 deaths in one match thanks to the new tower control mode
Sprinklers remain, as usual, underrated. Of course, something that goes overlooked is that the best weapon selection really depends on the map in question... I dominated the warehouse with a charger but the opposite in the statepark.
I have a tip.
Sometimes, try not to rush the tower considering how many people want that tower booty. So try avoiding it depending on how hardcore the enemies are.
@rishisquid @Skywalker So Ranked Battles actually have matchmaking? Makes me wonder why Turf War doesn't...
@Kaze_Memaryu Turf war does have matchmaking. My daughter gets significantly worse opponents than I do.
@chardir Then the matchmaking is terrible, since I've been up against Lv.15+ opponents ever since I myself reached Lv.10. And by now, almost every room I'm in is filled with Lv.20, which is really annoying, as most of them don't need many points, so they Rambo across the map with barely any coverage.
@Kaihaku I find that chargers function best on Underpass and Warehouse - not sure about the new maps like kelp dome and bluefin yet though. I notice rollers are now very unpopular, but I wonder if there's map where they're particularly effective?
@chardir are you sure? That's interesting... when I first joined the game in my first couple of matches I was in a match with lvl 15+'s. And I once saw a Lvl 1 in a match with Lvl 20's.
I wouldn't say Blasters are much better than Chargers for riding the tower. Blasters are for getting people off the tower.
I normally chuck a Point Sensor or Splat Bomb over the top of the tower before I get on it. Point sensors are really good when riding the tower, to check who's hiding in the ink, and I find that Splat Bombs can be bounced just off the tower to make opponents scatter at your feet. My preferred weapons are the Splattershot Pro and Forge Splattershot Pro (hence SPlat Bombs and Point Sensor recommendations)
