Mewtwo is coming very soon to the latest Super Smash Bros. titles, as soon as 15th April for those that registered on Club Nintendo. For eager fans and series veterans it'll be an exciting arrival, with Melee players no doubt getting ready to bust out their old moves and combos once again.
Though this DLC character has taken a while to arrive, it's surprising - or not, depending on your perspective - just how similar the moveset is in the modern-day Mewtwo to its Melee equivalent. There are more polygons and the effects are flashier, but the core move-set appears to have only undergone minor tweaks.
You can see a nicely details video comparison of the Melee and Wii U moves below, courtesy of the Master0fHyrule channel.
Thanks to Andy Garner for sending this through.

When Wii was going to come out, Nintendo always said add-on DLC was on the table, but it never happened. Now they finally can on Wii U, and they're doing it well.
LOL at the end...
Can someone help me out understanding why MewTwo is such a hot topic? I get the pokemon tie in but I really don't get the big deal.
@OneBagTravel There's a couple reasons, really. First of all, it marks the first time that Smash Bros. is getting additional characters beyond the original release, and I for one am excited to see the game continue to expand. And secondly, Mewtwo had a big fanbase back in the Melee days and many people are excited to see him returned after he was left out of Brawl.
Ya. He is one of the ultimate Pokemon of first generation, so he was the s*** to everyone who played Pokemon back then, almost by default.
@OneBagTravel
Me two! I mean me too! i would have preferred other more iconic Nintendo characters.
@outburst
That's why they have the Smash Ballot thing, That basically means they are for sure going to add more characters, and that's why they are asking fans.
@OneBagTravel It's a huge deal whenever a character in a Smash game gets cut. Especially if it's a unique character like Mewtwo. He first appeared in Melee, but however didn't make it into Brawl, and a decent ammount of people loved playing as Mewtwo in Melee. So when fans found out Mewtwo was cut, they started requesting him to come back like crazy. Also, he's pretty cool Pokèmon.
He's also considered to be one of the top 3 most requested Smash characters for Smash 4 (and in Brawl). Which are (no order):
1. Ridley
2. King K. Rool
3. Mewtwo
Mewtwo is gonna dominate online.
I hope nintendo is going to release a season pass (€16 for 6 characters or €20 for the crossbuy version)
LOL The ending!
Also, as T7L3RB said, there are gonna be SO many Mewtwo's online. Like... Wow.
Feels nice that CN members get him two weeks early, he was fun to use and if you watch the video you will know some of the benefits he has! that side B everyone didn't like is both a move and a reflector, hope his down B effects every sized character this time around though.
@OneBagTravel
No one is giving you the full right answer
He was cool in Melee, he's the first DLC character, he was the strongest Pokemon ever at the time, but most importantly,
The movie. The movie was awesome. So awesome that they referenced it in his trailer.
I honestly don't care about Mewtwo anymore, I'm more hyped up about Lucas.
inb4 For Glory Mewtwo infestation
@darkswabber it would be really difficult to I think with how spaced out the characters releases are. Plus I'm sure not even Nintendo knows at this point how many characters they are going to add since its so early.
Now the match that never could happen will happen: my friend's Lucario vs my Mewtwo. We've been waiting for this moment for all our lives (cue In the Air of the Night)...
Oh, it does still have the lame flipping special (Confusion?), although I didn't know it could be used to reflect projectiles. Darn it, I really wanted at least one improvement to its lackluster moveset! (The Final Smash doesn't count.) Oh well, hopefully the customizable moves will have some good options.
I only hope that Mewtwo won't be op.
Mr. Whitehead, the video always cuts to 2:37 when you load up the page. You probably entered in the video ID with a time placement.
