We're not going to lie, aspects of the free March DLC for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate were frustrating - the Legend of Zelda gear looked fabulous but, heck, good luck clearing the quests to unlock it. We jumped online in a group of four and failed spectacularly - it hurt.
Hopefully the key April unlock of Sonic the Hedgehog Palico gear will be a little less punishing, as it looks just lovely. Capcom's already released this DLC, which has the following content.
14 New quests
2 New weapons
3 Complete armor sets
4 Palico weapons
7 Palico armor sets
1 Bonus Palico: Blue Pal
4 Guild Card backgrounds
2 Guild Card poses
13 Guild Card titles
1 Poogie outfit: Vagaboar
You can see how this breaks down into quests in the video below, too.
Fingers crossed we can actually access some of these unlocks. It's also worth noting that there'll be server maintenance affecting DLC access during 4th and 5th April, so jump in fast to avoid a wait!

Am I the only one who finds the Palicos kinda ugly? .... and the "gear" makes them not a bit better ... the Sonic gear looks kinda crazy, but still ugly ....
As soon as exams finish, I will play the living popo dung out of this game!!!
I'll skip the Sonic costume, looks weird. But I'm always in for new stuff in general!
Also, I like that the Zelda material quests are so difficult - that makes the accomplishment feel so much better (if only the armor set wasn't so bad, though).
Hopefully I can actually get some of the stuff this time...
I still feel ashamed for letting @ThomasBW84 down when it came to those quests
I only just got the game on Monday and I checked a tutorial online on how to get the Link equipment and realised that it will probably be a few weeks of playing before I can get anywhere near there... and you have to complete the 3 virtues quest ~5 times for the full set! Jeez!
So just for clarification, when you download this new DLC, the old DLC doesn't go away, does it? I think that's how it worked in past MH games with the event quests.
I need to get down to the dlc quests as I haven't even attempted them.
@MegaWatts I blame Capcom, the trolls!
The Mario gear is from this pack? How did I already get it then? Weird. That Sonic outfit is creepy, but I still want it.
Is the March DLC still available for download like they did with Dead or Alive? I haven't picked up Monster Hunter 4 due to moneis, but will thrown down for it if it means I will miss out on all the DLC.
Edit: Found my answer on the Capcom Unity blog (http://www.capcom-unity.com/dubindoh/blog/2015/04/02/monster-hunter-4-ultimate-free-dlc-line-up-for-april). It says the March DLC pack is still up but doesn't say for how long. I'm assuming it's for good but I'm probably going to break down and grab the game this weekend just to be safe.
I like the Sonic gear. My Luigi Ace Palico is getting a little stale, but I don't change him because the weapon and gear are pretty powerful.
At first I didn't like the Palicoes, and I wanted my Shakalakas back, but now I've come around to the Palicoes and really like collecting their armor and doing the activities on Sunsnug Isle as a break from big game hunting. And the ability to have so many Palicoes and swap them out is a cool way to put a little variety into the whole thing.
Hopefully the Sonic Palico gear is just a giveaway like the Mario/Luigi was, though I wish I could get another set so I could have Mario AND Luigi.
@Moon The Starter Pack came with some Super Mushrooms, but it was only enough to make Mario or Luigi.
@GumbyX84 The March DLC is still available and it will always be available.
I've been waiting for this DLC to arrive, I'll be doing them later around lunch time.
@Iggly Thanks for the clarification. There is still a good chance I will gran it this weekend though lol.
I'm not a fan of the Palicos. There already is tons of armor, weapons and items to craft. There wasn't any need to add another layer of it all with Palicos. Feels like overkill. As far as additional hunts and gear: Bring it! We need a NL hunting community. Someone set that up please
Total Hype! Going to download right now!
@Iggly let me know when you're ready! I gotta make some Starbucks real quick and download the DLC, should be about 20-30 minutes
@JaxonH I'm doing the event quests right now. Edit: Nvm, I'll start a new one after I have lunch
@Iggly Ok, I couldn't find the hall, now I know why
Just let me know when Room is up I'll be ready
@JaxonH Alright I'm ready, ID is 66-2027-1066-4943 and the password is 4321
I wanted the Kirin armors but I didn't want to go past HR 7 so I completed Three Virtues 11 times. I'm cursed for all my unicorn killing though.
@Josaku cool story go troll somewhere else please
@ThomasBW84 I mean seriously! I could see locking the stuff behind a two-monster quest, but facing off against a Zinogre and a Kirin that hit like G-Rank monsters only to be matched up with Mr. One-Shot-Kamehameha Rajang after spending the previous 35 minutes dropping the other two is pure torture. I've only collected two Triforces so far.......
@Kaze_Memaryu Weird? It's one of the best looking! Ah well, can't change what someone thinks. I on the other hand would keep this gear equipped to my sidekick all the time.
@TheSonicdude97 Can't say I share your enthusiasm. The Sonic outfit just looks too wide on the palicoes, especially when keeping in mind how slim Sonic's body actually is.
