For those of you that aren't fans, the Etrian Odyssey series is an old school, dungeon-crawling RPG that tasks players with exploring vast mazes from a first person perspective. This series is refreshing for placing players in relatively open environments, such as oceans or jungles, as opposed to the typically claustrophobic dungeons and caves that other games of this ilk are prone to feature. Absolutely packed with monsters, a wide array of class options, quests, and all the trimmings of a good RPG, it’s no wonder that the Etrian series has garnered such a cult following over the years. It’s been about a year and a half since the last entry in this series came out West and, disregarding the spin-off Etrian Mystery Dungeon, fans have been waiting anxiously for a new game. We’re happy to announce that the wait is finally over.
The good people that are in charge of Atlus USA have heard the cries of fans and will be localising Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight for a summer release. Much akin to how its predecessor Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millenium Girl was a remake of the first entry in the series; this will be an enhanced remake of the second title - Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard - with an additional story mode being added in.
In the new story mode, players will embark on a quest to unravel the secret of the mysterious Fafnir Knight and fight to protect Princess Arianna of Caledonia. This mode will feature the exclusive Fafnir Class, animated cutscenes, voiced dialogue, and a fixed set of adventurers. Classic mode will be returning as well, which will be the original game with upgraded graphics, new dungeon layouts, and improved design. The whole package is essentially featuring two Etrian games in one, so this is a pretty good deal at $49.99.
Unfortunately, there's no information on whether or not Europe will be getting this, but we'll keep you posted if this changes. Pre-order bonuses and DLC will be announced in the near future, so keep an eye on this.

I'm all about this one.
I've never tried out this series, but I may just get into it with this one.
At least it is now confirmed to leave Japan, I guess...
Sigh. I don't know which I hate more - Atlus or being born in Europe as far as gaming is concerned.
looooved millennium girl untold. played the demo and bought it next day. I thought I was gonna hate that demo too. great game. definatly gonna get this one~
Millenium Girl was my first Etrain Odyssey game and I really enjoyed it. Its a Day one purchase for me. There are too many great RPGs on the 3DS right now. I cant keep up and MH4U wont release me from its grasp!
I'll get this one for sure. Just one remake to go, then. Though I still treasure my DS copies of these games.
"The whole package is essentially featuring two Etrian games in one, so this is a pretty good deal at $49.99."
The previous game was cheaper.
Yes, finally! I was hoping to hear something on this soon. I love the Etrian series. I'm personally glad to have these remakes- just for the story. It makes playing the game that more enjoyable.
Atlus seems intent on pushing the average MSRP by $10 on 3DS. I can wait until it is on the cheap like the other.
This is wait for the cheap. I've gotten most Atlus games that way.
Very happy to know this game is coming. I've been looking forward to this game ever since it was announced. I liked EOU, (my first Etrian Odyssey game) and I loved EOIV so this will be a day one purchase for me.
1:17 thats me. cant have it! i need an eropean release date now!
These etrian odyssey games are quite common are they not?
@Yorumi Well, there's an entirely new story mode. I never played the first Untold, but I'd guess it's comparable in length to the story they added to that one. And we can't forget about the much-loved Atlus tax that gets added to all their games!
@Yorumi
Or you could just wait a few months for the game to go on sale in the eShop every other month like all the other Atlus games.
Little disappointed by the $50 entry fee on day one, but Atlus games tend to hit rock bottom in 3-6 months (sadly, for Atlus ) good news for me Either way I'm more interested in EMD, but I'll certainly get this come next winter.
Welp, gotta get Millennium Girl soon anyway. I enjoyed the demo, greatly.
"ATLUS USA. Yes, I remember you.
You've grown so much since I first met you."
I remember when you used to charge standard pricetags.
no go for me. I am not paying $50 for what amounts to remake. too many other games I want more
Guess this is joining Persona Q in my "download when it goes on sale" list.
Awwwww yeaaaaah!
I will definitely be getting this, but not at $50.
I've been nice and purchased the others at full price, but Atlus you've lost me on this one.
I'm really happy to finally hear that it's coming out of Japan, especially since I really enjoyed Millennium Girl but I think I'm going to wait for a price drop. My stinginess outweighs my desire to play a new EO game. That and there's going to be plenty of other great games to play in the meantime anyways.
Yeeeeeaaaaaaaaay! I was starting to wonder. . .
I'll wait until it comes down a little. A lot of great games coming out this year!
@thehoppypoppy
I know what you mean. Atlus games are top of the pile in a slow year, but with Splatoon, Zelda U, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Persona 5, Batman: Arkham Knight, Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson, Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, etc. coming out... I'm not going to want for quality software to play.
@sinalefa Uggh, I didn't even see the price till you said that. I'm not day one on any more 50$ games from them. If there was a drought it would be harder to wait but I've got plenty to play. The extra 10$ is so upsetting that I will wait till it's under 40$. I Still haven't picked up Persona Q and refuse to get Code Break either. I will seriously have to think on 50$ for EOV though as I love that series. That might be the first game I break my protest because for me it's a game I'll stop everything else for. Can't figure out why 50$ is the new 40$.
Wonder what @MERG thinks about all this 50$ crap?
@Spoony_Tech you are right. I did pick up PQ for 50$. It's good. It's like etrion with persona monsters and characters and the dunguens are hard. I thought it would be more like Persona. I don't think it is worth $50 but $40. I know you know Atlus will have a discount on that one soon. I would wait until your in a drought or when it goes on sale. Then, snag it and bag log it. You know it's a quality RPG, but you also know what your getting.
Atlus' retail releases have always catered towards collectors...and unfortunately I'm one of those. Oh well, it just means I get to charge more when I eventually sell it.
YESSSS
@CanisWolfred It can be justified for retail but what's the excuse for the eshop price?
I'm ok with the "Atus tax", seeing they usually make a pretty package box with music cd's and mini art books etc. I'm a sucker for that stuff and they know that. Its what makes them different and unique. They always make it worth it. Even if his one is a remake, if the story is as good as Millennium Girl -I am in. (never played original)
The remastered OST is legendary!
Yay! I was worried when they confirmed the Mystery Dungeon game before this one for a western release but it's happening. Now to wait for a European confirmation...
If I don't cave and buy whatever day one edition Atlus gives this, I'll definitely download it on sale. I still need to finish The Millenium Girl and EO: 4 though.
@Spoony_Tech It's kind of weird too considering EO:IV got all the way down to like, $15 at some point. Are they trying to squeeze out money from all the loyal fans or something?
Awesome! I'll see if I can clear my game backlog by then. I still need to buy Etrian Odyssey Untold.
I wish i had the time to play Millenium Girl.
The story mode sounds like the thing that could make me get into the series.
seems interesting i like try first one before playing this one.
Want. Please tell me it's actually coming to Europe at some point though. I'll even take an E-shop only PAL release over no PAL release at all....absolutely love this series of games
@MasterWario That's the weird thing. You look at some of the comments and some of the loyal fans are the one's refusing to pay this price. I would chalk it up to normal inflation if more companies were doing it but I only see one doing it. This is also justified for retail but I just want the game and the eshop price is not justified.
Haven't we seen enough of this series? Lol
Finally!!!!
Can't wait, I loved millennium girl and this game looks way better.
@Spoony_Tech Do you really need to ask how I feel? $50?!?!?!?! Way to much!
One more game to put on my "someday" list!
How many of these are there? Is there a new one every two months? I want to get one but have no idea which one.
I just noticed in your thumbnail shot that the fafnir knight looks a lot like the princess class from EO3. Considering that EOU1 had the "main character, not SMT protagonist" as a gunner, maybe a precedent for including a class from the next game?
