The sheer demand for Nintendo’s amiibo figurines has been unprecedented since they were released in stores late last year. Being able to provide an array of unique gaming experiences across multiple titles including Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Mario Kart 8, and Hyrule Warriors, the 29 currently available amiibo figurines have become increasingly harder and harder to find – to the point of being completely sold out in many locations.
With this in mind, Nintendo Australia has today revealed limited quantities of amiibo figurines will be replenished in stores across both Australia and New Zealand, with some of the figurines even being sourced from other regions. Below is the official statement:
In the coming months, limited quantities of some amiibo figures will be replenished in stores, with some figures sourced from other regions that will feature non-AU/NZ packaging.
The Nintendo Australia Twitter account also revealed stock would only be available at select retailers:
In addition to this news, the Super Mario amiibo collection will be released locally on 21st March, followed by the release of the fourth Smash Bros. amiibo wave in April, which includes Robin, Lucina, Charizard, PAC-MAN, Ness and Wario.
If you live in Australia or New Zealand, or even outside of this region, let us know in the comments how you feel about the arrival of extra amiibo stock.

Pikachu and Mario were peg warming up until Xmas. Now the stores near me are completely sold out of amiibo. I'd certainly have picked up 3 or 4 by now on impulse buy if I could have.
Nice... I missed out on Toon Link...
(one auction site here in NZ Wanted $50 NZD for it )
I will keep the dream alive that one day Nintendo releases a "Dry Bones" Amiibo !!!
The announcement was all good and well... but where do we pre-order them from ?!?
it's not really new stock, more left over stock from other regions.
too little too late IMO.
the different packaging affects the collector's value.
Why don't they make a decision and announcement like this for North America? It's not like we're overflowing with rare amiibo here!
@Ruthven If you're concerned about securing a particular amiibo that you have missed, I would contact your local stores to see if they will have anything available in the coming months.
Also, from what I've heard, this stock is already being put out on shelves and will only be available at select retailers according to Nintendo.
Nintendo needs a new partner focused completely on manufacturing Amiibo figures as it is obviously difficult for Nintendo to handle the high consumer demand. Next time Nintendo should anticipate their new products will sell extremely well as this is also happening with the New 3DS
I don't think releasing "limited quantities" is going to help at all. They will just end up selling out on pre orders by collectors before they even hit the shelves.
I just feel sorry for kids that want these. They've got no chance.
C'mon NOA, lets get villager back on store shelves!
Still waiting for wave 4 preorders in NA -. -
I'd be all for tracking down the last few characters to add to my amiibo collection. My Mario, Kirby and Pikachu are probably really lonely by now!
My local store was almoat fully stocked of first wave, then the first rarity rumours started, then NVC discussed rarity, then the store was immediately cleaned out. I put it down to one or two speculators.
So be it, havent brought one Amiibo yet, still enjoying my Wii U and 3DS. As Nintendo intended, not necessary to enjoy their games.
Chill
I am so confused there were regions where Amiibo that aren't Mario, Pikachu, DK, and Peach are even available?
The press release didn't mention which amiibo were being restocked. I would imagine it's just the mario etc non rare statues. I could kick myself for not pre ordering mega man as I have little hope of restocking.
@Ps4all Megaman and Sonic is currently for sale in ShopTo... Grab it while you can mate!
@Ruthven Toon Link is only £16.90 (GBP) on UK's Amazon, may be worth looking into it if you really want him!
I currently have:
LoZ Series: Link, Toon Link, Zelda ,Sheik
FE Series: Marth, Ike, Robin (Pre-Ordered)
Other: Pit, Yoshi, Fox, Villager (Brand New in Box), Rosalina (Brand New in Box), Toad (Pre-Ordered)
Shame I couldn't get my hands on Lucina pre-order... will have to wait and buy it from some dude for an extortionate price...
Hopefully I will get my hands on another Rosalina, I need another for a fun, nonprofit cause.
@shaneoh Why do you need two?
@Bushido_Fai
To do something very fun.
@shaneoh And what would that be? lol.
actually having the ability to buy pacman, robin, ness and lucina in the UK would be nice. Not found them anywhere since they were announced and they're not even released for another 2 months!!!!!
@DESS-M-8 I think they were gone within the hour that they were announced lol. I went out to get lunch when they announced it and got back just in time to get my hands on a Robin pre-order but was too late for Lucina sadly... And she was my favorite too.
@Bushido_Fai
While not strictly against the rules, elaborating on it might be frowned upon by the staff. It probably isn't a good reason to get another one, but it will be fun for me and a few other people. Worst case scenario, I just use 1.
@shaneoh Now you've really peaked my interest... Is there some illegal way of playing with Amiibo's?
It's bad enough the amiibo are quickly running out, but why on earth do Nintendo need to scalp other regions to stock up Australia and New Zeland.
They should just, you know, MAKE MORE OF THEM.
@Ahsanawan44 No.
@dizzy_boy Virus I think...
I can already see some Australian scalpers rubbing their hands with glee at this news. They will buy a truckload of them so they can continue to sell them to the highest bidders on eBay (but hey, at least you don't have to pay the [usually] exuberant international postage fees, right?)
I am not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic. For an Australian like me (and some of my friends), the "Amiibo" word is just not one that I care to hear anymore.
@Bushido_Fai
No no, nothing like that.
I thought Au/nz amiibo shared the european package. Guess I really dont have amiibo from every region then.
I want my pacman. The only one from wave 4 I could preorder was Wario.
@sinalefa Just checked, you can still pre-order Charizard from Wave 4 from ShopTo if you want. Wario is still available there too, but the other 4 will never see daylight....
I'm trying to see if I can get my hands on my dearly beloved Lucina and perhaps a gold/silver Mario too...
By the way is it true that you can use a Japanese Amiibo on a European WiiU/3DS? And has anyone actually tried it?
@Bushido_Fai
Thanks. Not really interested in Charizard. Maybe Lucina. And checking on google, it seems that AU and EU do share the same amiibo.
And as far as I know, amiibo are not region locked, so you should be able to use them. Haven't tried it myself.
@sinalefa Nooooooo..! Don't steal my Lucina!
Why does it take them months to restock them? I don't... days: okay, sure.. Weeks; understandable. But months? That's just... wow. I seriously, what is the process for that?
@Rhydas You misunderstand, they are not re-stocking them for AU/NZ, they are just taking leftover stock from other regions and importing them for AU/NZ. In actual fact, they have already stopped producing some Amiibo's such as Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Marth (was re-produced for NA a few weeks back), Little Mac, Rosalina. Not sure if there are more that are not being manufactured anymore...
It's true that you can get the Amiibo in card format which would be great for use moving about outside the house, but.... that sucks, no figurine on it?!
I need them to do that for the NA region.
@Bushido_Fai Oh whoops. Thanks for correcting me. I suppose I missed the point of the article for a second there. I guess it might take a little longer then usual to gather stock from other locations and ship them to Australia and such.
@ericwithcheese2
We get the most Amiibos here in NA. The problem is that we get the common ones - Mario, Peach, Luigi, Yoshi, Kirby, & DK!
@dkxcalibur In terms of raw numbers, NA gets the most Amiibo's regardless of which one it is. The only problem is that there are too many people in NA and the amount the Amiibo's they supply to NA is not proportionally equal to the number of players/collectors over there. For example, NA may get 5x more Amiibo than Europe (in raw numbers), but if NA has 10x more players/collectors, you'll still see scarcity in Amiibo's.
@Bushido_Fai wish I could. I'm in the states.
Looks like toon link is in stock on the U.S. Amazon. This website tracks amiibo availability in the us Canada and the UK. http://www.nowinstock.net/videogaming/games/amiibo/
Hold on, I'm confused. They're planning on taking stock from other countries and moving it to NZ/AU? What stock? The NA's stock of Mario, Peach, and Luigi? Ok that's fine.
I went to my local retail Target store last night and saw Japanese version of Kirby, Donkey Kong and Pikachu in stock. So it is true
@TheSwagMaster98 Where do you live? I'll buy one and post it to you...
@TheSwagMaster98 Well the Amiibo costs £10.52 itself, so that is $20.11 Canadian Dollar already without postage lol....
Have a look yourself - http://www.shopto.net/video-games/wiiu/WIIUAM25-amiibo-smash-sonic-character
Japanese Marth, Donkey Kong, Pikachu, Link, and Kirby all confirmed at my local EB...
