Indie studio Pirana King has just launched an announcement trailer for LastFight, a new brawling title which calls to mind Capcom's amazing - but sadly dormant - Power Stone series.
The footage contains chunky characters, frantic action and the ability to use nearby objects against your opponent - all hallmarks of Capcom's aforementioned franchise, which enjoyed two excellent instalments on the Sega Dreamcast.
Based on French comic book Lastman, LastFight is apparently coming to "all major platforms":
We've approached the developer for clarification, and they have replied:
Right now we are getting in touch with Nintendo, so nothing is done yet, but we are trying our best to have it on every console we can.
What do you think of the trailer? Is this something you'd like to see on your Wii U? Let us know by posting a comment below.

Looks so awesome.
Wow, I really liked what I saw! Put this on Wii U right now!
"Capcom's amazing - but sadly dormant -" can apply to so many of their IPs.
Rival Schools, Tech Romancer, and Star Gladiator are three that always come to mind. The Dreamcast era was a hell of a time to be a Capcom fan.
@EllenJMiller I'd happily take sequels to all of those. And I want Capcom vs SNK 3
Funnily enough I just got a copy of power stone on the dreamcast. Will be giving it a go this weekend
I like the look of it. Imagine an alternate reality where a stand-up cabinet of this is next to a sit-down version of The 90's Arcade Racer.
Wow! Looks really good!
@Damo
I want to hear "MECHANICAL SELECT!" again, without booting up my Dreamcast. Tech Romancer and Project Justice also had fantastic story modes. Not something you get often in fighting games, and makes me cherish them more.
Love the FBI thing at the beginning, like the old arcade games. I loved Power Stone so I am interested. Hopefully it is 4 players too instead of just 2 like in Ehrgeiz.
Looks pretty cool though I am not usually too big on traditional fighting games.
I saw Power Stone in the title of this article and knew I needed to check it out immediately. By gosh I wish we had a Power Stone 3.
In any case, a spiritual successor would also be fine with me, I'm rather surprised at the lack of games made within that particular style of fighting genre. The game shown looks pretty good, and whilst I'm not too sure on the character designs yet, the in game art style looks pretty neat. I hope to see things go well for this game!
@Souldin Yes, I was going to write all that.
And I hope they will make the levels change during matches like they do in the Power Stone.
I think the combat would need to be sped up a bit in order to look more like PowerStone. I would like it on WiiU but hopefully the devs have a lot of tweaking to do and make the game better.
@EllenJMiller i loved project justice, i miss the dreamcast era
Looks slow. Doesn't matchup with PowerStone. Nuff said
Can never have too many Dreamcast games, but sadly this looks a lot like the Shrek game on Gamecube I used to have. If the entire game takes place in small rooms like that it would be very disappointing. Shrek did grow form the small inital baroom to some larger outdoor areas, and it was actually fun, but the graphics were a bit muddy.
Oh well, I'll give this the initial trailer benefit of the doubt and look forward to seeing more.
@rjejr Please no Shrek. Can we update the Community Rules?
Just kidding. I still don't like Shrek, though.
When I read the title of this article, I was excited… then I saw the footage. This looks really straight forward and not all that exciting. Maybe they are holding off on showing the major 'hook' of the game? A big draw of the Power Stone games was over-the-top arenas and the interactions with them. Power Stone's fighters were really interesting too. The character design in this game so far is certainly not on par with Power Stone. This may end up being a good/fun game, but I couldn't possibly compare it to Power Stone. Not yet, anyway. Time will tell.
I'm just sitting here waiting for the next Rival Schools :s
I need to see more then that to make up my mind but I will say that I loved PowerStone on the DC. So if they can make it control as good as PowerStone, and as much fun as PowerStone then I would support this game.
I like the intentionally Lo-Fi look, hopefully it turns out well.
@rjejr Oh i loved that Shrek game!It was so cool no wonder Shrek is love and life.
@GamecubeComplex You don't like Shrek? Then your life is ogre now, cause of that comment.
I'm onboard looks interesting.
They definitely have my attention. I hope it works out.
If they can pull off some more interesting stage designs, then I will be convinced to check it out. Presumably that is their intention, because playing in one flat, box-shaped arena with only a few interactive clutter items will get boring quickly.
I'll pass.
@rjejr Oh, I remember that game. It was actually quite a lot of fun.
Naturally it wasn't as good as Power Stone, but aside from the Power Stone collection releasing on the PSP, it's the closest thing we've had to Power Stone since back in the Dreamcast era... at least, to my knowledge.
Doesn't look too much like Power Stone yet.
Get Vampire out of retirement please Capcom, it's been too long already and make if multiformat also!
Heck yeah, its about time someone made some a fighting game!
@rjejr
praise our ogrelord.
Hopefully it has 4-Player simultaneous fight. Power Stone 2 was an awesome fighter because of that.
I see potential. I'll keep an eye out for it.
tapping credit card on screen Did you get my order yet?!??!!
As we all know the wii u needs more game choices so bring it on!!
I'm in. Really like the look of this, especially the cutscenes.
If this game came out on wiiU I would definitely wanna buy it. It looks great.
Bring it on- wii u needs the games!! Ooops! Said that already! Lol
Gonna get it.
How about a 3DS version 😀
If it has 4 player support I will be all over this!
