Way back during E3 2014 Nintendo stated that it could, potentially, give the whole cast of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS amiibo toys; there's clearly some demand, if the reaction to fake wave 4 amiibo figures is anything to go by.
It seems that a hacker has demonstrated that data for a Duck Hunt figure - known as Duck Hunt Duo in Europe - is already sitting within the game. Like equivalent NFC experiences such as Skylanders, data for amiibo interaction is waiting in the software that needs to be activated by the relevant toy; if an NFC card or chip is hacked, it could be possible to trick the game into thinking a specific toy is being scanned - if true, this video shows that the Duck Hunt data is in place.
Naturally some caution is required, as this could have been mocked up. It should be noted, however, that the only other two videos on this YouTube channel show some basic hacking of a Wii U, though there's no suggestion of any piracy in the footage - we've seen others hack Mario Kart 8, for example.
Are you still hopeful that we'll see more waves of amiibo figures through 2015, and do you think this video is legitimate? Let us know.

Nintendo did say they were creating amiibo for all Smash 3DS/Wii U characters so this isn't anything new. What I'm wondering though is whether Mewtwo will get one as it's DLC.
@Grumblevolcano
Ooooh Mewtwo! I hope so.
Why did he cut the video? I need to see up until the creation (amiibo comes to life) animation to convince me.
Doesn't really come as much of a surprise when Nintendo already said all the smash characters were getting amiibos.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well yeah all the amiibo data is on disc and didn't Nintendo already say every fighter was getting an amiibo.
Nintendo said every fighter would be getting an amiibo, so of course there's data for DHD.
Please show start up animation and next time be sure it's "Duck Hunt" not "Duck Hunt Duo" unless I'm wrong...
It's not a new thing. Nintendo said that they are going to make amiibo for hidden smash bros. characters.
Well here's to hoping the subsequent waves are at least 3-4 months apart from each other. Give me and my wallet time to breathe. Ha.
@TheGreatBrawler : The fighter is collectively known as "Duck Hunt" in the U.S. and "Duck Hunt Duo" in the European/Oceania editions.
Me and my Dark Pit amiibo are going to have so much fun together listening to darkwave and brooding.
@TheGreatBrawler It says right in the article that they're called Duck Hunt Duo in Europe.
This doesn't particularly surprise me, but I'd like to see a bit more footage to fully convince me!
Well, duh! It would be a huge missed opportunity to leave out any characters! After all, Smash 4 is currently the only game with extended amiibo support.
In other news, EVERY fighter is getting an amiibo. But I also wonder about Mewtwo.
meh while yes they will be coming out with duck hunt amiibo. I say its fake.
@NintyMan This indeed.
I have yet to doubt that we will get a figure for all of the Smash Bros characters, I don't know why it's subject to such worry. Mewtwo IS the only unknown one.
@Grumblevolcano I would plan on it with each character in his or her character selection screen pose. I'm fairly confident that we will see all characters. I have started to wonder if after Smash amiibo that Nintendo will go the card amiibo route for other series though.
Some main ones needed are this, PAC-Man, Falco, Bowser Jr, and Zero Samus.
@Sir_JBizzle - Considering they only seem to make enough amiibo of each type to fulfill pre-orders and barely any reach store shelves I would guess 1-2 months is more likley if they keep doing 3-6 amiibo each time. I suppose a 3 month break would be good for a ginourmous 12 amiibo wave at the end (though I haven't done the math and don't know what's left of the 49 characters, plus Mewtwo makes 50, to release).
I think 6 weeks is going to be the norm.
Maybe they'll coincide a big final wave to release w/ the "new" 3DS and finally patch support into SSB for 3DS. And finally patch tournaments, sharing and the Miiverse level that they showed in the "50 things" video into SSBU.
Apologies to your wallet
If there is not an Amiibo for each of the 3 Mii Fighters, I will be sorely disappointed.
You could say they have that amiibo data just in case they ever do decide to release a Duck Hunt amiibo.
Or, there could be no data for Duck Hunt and Nintendo could release an update patch along with the hypothetical Duck Hunt amiibo.
You can't really make anything of this discovery.
@rjejr Haha thanks. It hasn't been a too bad a hit on my wallet. I was just thinking this morning, as I saw that my Pit is on his way today, that I've spent over well 500 dollars (If you include gas on amiibo runs alone) by the time Wave 3 is all said and done. It was just more or less a "Good god!" moment.
6 weeks sounds reasonable, honestly. Though distribution leaves a lot to be desired, by how crazy the waves were coming in. I almost feel like maybe they should have come in 6 at a time, 6 weeks apart. Though in hindsight, the next wave of 11 isn't due until February. So that's at least another 8-10 weeks from the last wave so perhaps the time frame is more reasonable than I'm thinking considering that they do have to get out the Smash amiibo roster in a timely fashion. They got some way to go, as after wave 3, they still have another 19-21 (depending on if they do Dark Pit and/or MewTwo)
After all is said and done, the hunt has been fun, if not a tad stressful. I've pre-ordered everything I could now so that should make subsequent hunts a little easier on me. Haha
I can't wait for my paper-thin Mr. Game and Watch amiibo...
@SanderEvers I 'd personally have little interest in amiibo cards. So far I have Mario, Link, Yoshi and Kirby partly because of combatibility with games I have, or intend to buy, and largely due to wanting the figures. I plan to pick up Bowser and Megaman from the announced line-up almost entirely for the figures.
Oh yes silly me it has Duo in Europe xD
I would swear we were officially told the whole cast were getting amiibos when all this started.
Well... Nintendo did say that they were going to make the whole cast. I'm not surprised.
Didn't Nintendo actually say some time ago, that there will be amiibos for the whole roster? Why is this even news, when it is obvious there will be all the toys (unless I imagined it, which is possible)?
@TheGreatBrawler Should be Duck Hunt Trio since an off sceeen shooter participates as well lol.
@Sir_JBizzle - "Good god!" moment.
Jiminy Crickets $500 on amiibo!! We have about 55 Skylanders, 5 Di figures and 2 amiibo. I better not do the math, I may cry.
@rjejr Hey, at least you can use kids as an excuse. Lol... But man, 55 Skylanders! Collecting is such an addiction! You have 5 one minute and all the sudden you have about 100. It leaves you wondering, "When in the heck did this happen?"Ha.
I'm thinking of a pole for the duck... And more holders to hold up the legs..
@Sir_JBizzle Be very wary, it seems TRU are cancelling amiibo preorders again.
Can't wait for the Duck Hunt Duo! Most epic newcomer character to date!
I read somewhere on GBA-temp, hackers were working on dumping the contents of Amiibo and burning data to programmable NFC chips or cloning them with a NFC transmitter. Surprisingly the Amiibo data is unencrypted so assuming the IDs of each Amiibo are in sequential order, it will be easy to clone unreleased Amiibo.
This is similar to hacking Miis during the Wii era by communicating with a Wiimote. I made a gold pants version of my Mii avatar which sadly refused to transfer to Wii-U.
@Sir_JBizzle @Captain_Gonru - crackmiibo
I'm finding myself addicted to the free PC version of Disney Infinity. It's ike the console versions only you don't need the actual toys, you just pay as DLC, but there's plenty to do for free. So far for the free Wii U version of DI 1.0 I've bought 2 used characters for $6 each and I'm planning on buying more, and the st piece. So I'll probably wind up spending close to full retail price for my "free" game. I'm an idiot.
@Grumblevolcano - I wondered why you didnt include the link, then I realized you had a 6 hour head start on the NL team. But I'm going to put it here anyway, just in case:
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/01/toys_r_us_amiibo_pre_orders_cancelled_again
@DatGuy I was about to say the exact same thing.
Nintendo finally makes something that people will buy........and canceled. Its as if they dont like money.
That duck can't float in the figure
@Grumblevolcano if nintendo did create a mewtwo amiibo then its a day one buy or pre-order buy
@Sir_JBizzle holy hell 500 bucks spent already on amiibo when fuel for amiibo runs is factored in !! I admire your dedication at the very least. This just makes me wonder why can't Nintendo just have them available directly from them in addition to bricks and mortar retailers? Oh well at least Nintendo is doing well out of this new product line of theirs.
