Way back during E3 2014 Nintendo stated that it could, potentially, give the whole cast of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS amiibo toys; there's clearly some demand, if the reaction to fake wave 4 amiibo figures is anything to go by.

It seems that a hacker has demonstrated that data for a Duck Hunt figure - known as Duck Hunt Duo in Europe - is already sitting within the game. Like equivalent NFC experiences such as Skylanders, data for amiibo interaction is waiting in the software that needs to be activated by the relevant toy; if an NFC card or chip is hacked, it could be possible to trick the game into thinking a specific toy is being scanned - if true, this video shows that the Duck Hunt data is in place.

Naturally some caution is required, as this could have been mocked up. It should be noted, however, that the only other two videos on this YouTube channel show some basic hacking of a Wii U, though there's no suggestion of any piracy in the footage - we've seen others hack Mario Kart 8, for example.

Are you still hopeful that we'll see more waves of amiibo figures through 2015, and do you think this video is legitimate? Let us know.
