When Nintendo introduced 3DS HOME Themes earlier this year it was fairly reasonable to wonder whether it would be a rather limited initiative, with a small range of first-party themes that would gradually lose momentum. That's not the case so far, however, with new designs arriving most weeks and third-parties joining in with themes such as those for Shovel Knight and Sonic Boom, among others.
There's been a relatively pleasing trend, too, in a solid number of themes released in Japan making their way to the West. It's not always the case, of course, but the 3DS Theme Shop seems to be a busy outlet in Nintendo's homeland. With that in mind eight more themes have been released in Japan today and they're all third party — franchises and games covered include Puyo-Puyo, Cooking Mama and Tales of the Abyss, with the latter two's releases in the West making their respective themes a reasonable bet for the Theme Shops in Europe and North America.
You can see Nintendo's demonstration videos below.

Professor Layton would be nice to have!
Want them all lol
Nope, still not buying even if they come to Europe. I'm happy with that one Zelda theme I bought and the free Shovel Knight and Sonic Boom theme I got, but my money goes to games only. I guess I'm one of those who don't see the point in buying more than one when they don't really do anything (and cost a whooping 2 €!).
That being said, I think the first theme is really sweet.
That Carbuncle theme would look great on my pink 3DS XL. You know, as great as a localised Puyo Puyo game would look. OH WELL.
@Jordie I got the Zelda one too, but since I use a Pikachu 3ds xl, I just couldn't resist getting the Pikachu theme also...
Just make a Phoenix Wright one already!
I need a Layton, Ace Attorney, or Etrian Odyssey one. C'mon Nintendo!
All this PuyoPuyo teasing, and IT'S STILL NOT COMING OVER!!!
Also, Namco Bandai is, as per usual, irritatingly lazy - using the standard Home menu sounds (no TotA music piece, no recognizable sounds, nothing) just adds to the impression of them not caring about anything.
Really weird that Puyo Puyo is not released outside of Japan anymore. It's a really easily accessible and addictive game series. Also so strange on mobile side that the Android version is region locked, but the Apple version is not.
Haven't watched the video yet, but I know Konami has a Snake Eater theme for the 3DS.
Speaking of which, Snake Eater is set to come out on Dec. 16th, in the JPN eShop.
Oh, Yey Jewelpet!!!, but, I believe that those ones not coming to America..., Jewelpet is very rarely known, them...
@Shambo Same here, I have my original Zelda 3DS that came with Ocarina of Time, so of course I had to get at least one Zelda theme.
I would go for a Bayonetta 2-Theme 8-)
I didn't know the Tales of the Abyss theme came with no music...I guess you could say that it is...abysmal. I'll get my coat.
I want Rune Factory/Senran Kagura. TwT
I think it would be great for nintendo to release a home screen creation app with the ability to upload and share, maybe even sell with the proceeds raised going into your nintendo account and allow you to buy games from e-shop. I bet there are loads of talented artists out there.
I'd love a gen 1 Game Boy theme.
I want that Tales of the Abyss one! Playing through that right now.
I wouldn't mind the TotA one.
Where is Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus? They definetly deserve themes!
Carbuncle and Tales... It's as if Japan continues to tease me with themes I know aren't coming over.
Jewelpet, oh wow.
@Knuckles Thanks, I've been interested in buying Snake Eater on Japanese 3DS for a while but between the limited edition 3DS and a retail version. Both options were too expensive for me to jump on just yet.
Bandai Namco also wised up with digital availability with Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode last week and Tales of the World this week... I bought both despite not caring much about Digimon and already having Abyss' European release. >_> My wallet hates you too.
@PanbanRichard We might get the Tales one since we got the game. Which i still need to buy. heads over to Amazon
