Despite an underwhelming sales performance on release, Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 2 was still a critically acclaimed and highly anticipated angel & demon hunting experience.
With the dust now settled, the producer of Bayonetta 2 – Akiko Kuroda – has recently spoken out via Platinum’s website about the launch of the Wii U exclusive, and how she was relieved the game received such a welcoming reception on release.
I was very happy and relieved to see the game was being so warmly welcomed all over the world, so I’m very grateful to all of you who picked it up!
In the very same post, the producer also revealed how passionate fans in Russia were the only ones to receive an incredibly rare pack of Loki cards, whilst those who attended the launch in New York were treated to witch hunting food, and a photo opportunity with Bayonetta herself.
These are replicas of the tarot-like cards that Loki uses in the game. It’s a full set of the 22 Major Arcana cards created by character designer Mari Shimazaki. If you managed to get your hands on these cards, it would be totally cool if you pretended to be Loki and tried to recreate some of the scenes in the game! I hope they turn this into an official product!!
As a token of his appreciation, Akiko Kuroda shared a game tip and costume Easter egg provided by Bayonetta 2 designer, Ryoya Sakabe.
Let us know in the comments if you’re still enjoying your copy of Bayonetta 2, and if you think there is a possibility of a sales spike for the Wii U exclusive over the holiday period.
Thanks to Ryan Millar for the tip!

I am from Russia, but unfortunately i didn't manage to get that Tarot card bundle =( still many of my friends got it.
I still playing Bayo-2 from time to time, especially on non-stop climax difficulty and lost chapters levels. Keeps me calm after hard days at job.
Got both games, started the first one, liked it but just never went back to it. Maybe in the new year I'll restart over
Great games. FInished them both.
Bayo1 was always one of my favourites on Xbox 360, great to see the Nintendo exclusivity.
Looking forward to Bayonetta 3.
Bayonetta 2 is a must have for any Wii U owner old enough. There's something about the feel and style which trancends the genre. (I'm not really into that type of game).
Either way, I love this game.
Akiko Kuroda is a woman. The article refers to her as "he"
I started the second one last week and I'm quite far into it.It really is fantastic! That huge demon scrap at the top of the skyscraper blew me away and was the moment I realised,I love this game.Really need to get back to it but Shovel Knight (what a game!) has my time just now.
Getting it for the Holidays!!!
You're welcome, Platinum Games loved the games, both Bayo 1 and 2 are the best titles on Wii U at the moment.
Bought on release but had to sell it after finishing due to money problems :< Will definitely get it again when my wallet is all sorted!
Still playing it regularly, it's just that fun! And although I'm somewhat pissed that the Loki Tarot-Cards weren't available to anyone outside of russia, I just hope Bayonetta will continue, instead of being stuck in Limbo again!
I was very happy to do so! Had an absolute blast with Bayo 2. Saving Bayo 1 for when the Smash craze dies down.
Your welcome I got the first print edition and its glorious
Local retailers messes up big time over here and my pre-ordered First Print Edition became regular 2 games package. All the hate in the world to the people responsible for that fubar episode, but all the love in the Universe to Platinum games. I hope to see more Wii U games in the future from them, and I know they don't really do sequels much, but would love to tryout Vanquish on Wii U... and maybe Vanquish 2?
Was worth every penny, awesome game. Hell On Earth has to be one of my favourite opening levels of all time (i dont count the prologue), its just so fast paced, over the top, and lets you know youre in for a hell of a ride. Rodin dressed as Santa was hilarious ("but i dont believe in Santa!" "You watch your mouth Enzo")
Bring on Bayonetta 3!
Bought the double pack (First Print sold out too quickly) on launch day but haven't started either due to Hyrule Warriors and Mario Kart 8 DLC. Maybe I'll get around to them when there's an inevitable game drought in Q1 next year (Kirby isn't until 2nd half of 2015 so I expect nothing until April)
I'll wait until the double pack drops in price, there's heaps of copies in many stores in Australia and they aren't selling and I'm broke and there's other games I want more. But if it drops to $30 it would be hard to resist.
Bought it on Saturday. Found the Limited Edition with physical copies of both games and thought I'll get it before they're sold out.
You're welcome, fellas! And thank YOU for not dropping out on the Wii U like so many other 3rd parties have already done. (And yes I know Nintendo funded this game. )
We should be thanking Platinum for giving us such a great, polished game. Now they've set a standard, though. A sequel to Wonderful 101 or Bayonetta has to be even better!
I have both games but I didn't pick them up day one. I got them about 4 weeks later.
A pleasure for me to buy the games ^o^
Althought to be fair I still have to finish the first and start Bayo2... But it's the thought/purchase that count in these cases right? ^_^;
Got this day 1. Currently on my second playthrough, on Hard. Awesome sauce.
Eeeeeekkkkk!!!
I have loved every minute of playing this game. I stepped away from playing it for a while. It is certainly a great game and hope that it will receive a spike in sales once our new WiiU owner friends look for more titles other then MK8 and SSB4.
I would've played it more but it was released between both Smash Bros games. One of the best action titles you can get though.
Sigh... I have yet to grab this game, as well as Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad, Smash and some other games... Baaawww..
This game is own my Christmas list along with Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros, and Captain Toad.
Without lessening Nintendo's core product, Platinum's magic 3 sit at the top of my greatest Wii U games list. Hope that catalogue sales will convince Ninty to fund a 3rd Bayonetta.
A must have! Enjoyed both parts from the very first beginning!!
You have a Wii U and you are old enough?!? Please get it!
You're welcome. I'd buy another copy, if there were any sense in doing so.
my copy of this game should be here tomorrow! I hope its as good as what everyone is saying.
@AndyWARbear Well the author refers to Akiko Kuroda first as a she and later as a he. So technically the article is implying that she's transgendered, though what really happened was a simple clerical error.
Please people buy this game. Don't ruin good support by just buying 1st party games. Take a chance, you may surprise your self and like something that is new and unique. Nintendo fans buying habits are too safe. Time to change it up.
No plantinum. THANK YOOU for these great games. There is still sales potential in this game but the low sales must be mirrored in this game being very japanese minded which is not a high selling point outside of japan. Just a thought.
I bought it but I'm still working threw the first game. I'm sure I'll love the 2nd as I think the 1st is awesome. If it weren't for Smash, I would be playing Bayonetta 2 now.
Anytime..I payed 90 bucks for First Print Edition on release.
"Let us know in the comments if you’re still enjoying your copy of Bayonetta 2, and if you think there is a possibility of a sales spike for the Wii U exclusive over the holiday period."
Yes, it's amazing, however I am still working through the first one. I have so many games to play right now, it's a good problem to have.
Honestly, they probably won't sell much more. This seems like one of those games that has a sharp spike in the beginning, but I think that is over and we're close to whatever they're final total will be. It's a shame they think the reception was underwhelming, despite the sincere thank you. Quite frankly, I think it did about as well as it could have despite the Wii U's circumstances.
@Haru17 actually you are reading the edited story now. Initially every instance of reference was "he". I'm not so pedantic that I would point out a clerical error.
Hey Platinum Games how about next time you release the limited edition in north america stores as well. And great sequel I adore the gameplay.
Was that bundle even offered in NA? (If it was just in Nintendo World in NY, that doesn't count as being released in NA)
Hi from Colombia (south america). I got the game on it release date and dive directly on the Bayo2. It got the title of best WiiU game in my house...(share the title with Donkey Kong TF and Mario Kart 8).
I'm still disappointed that we didn't get a collector's edition in North America, but loved Bayonetta 2--which was partially surprising because there was a lot about the first game I hated.
But, I guess we won't be seeing a Bayonetta 3 given the predictably low sales. If even Nintendo can't sell third party games to Nintendo fans, it's probably time for the company to go third party or merge with Sony. Very disappointing.
Best Wii U game of 2014.
@Grimlock_King
I think that was on Nintendo, as the publisher. Nintendo of America is apparently deathly afraid of collector's editions, special editions, or promoting games.
My first print edition is nicely displayed in my collection. It's GOTY to me.
@AndyWARbear Specifically the article still says "As a token of his appreciation..." in the second to last paragraph. I'm plenty willing to nitpick journalism. As a fellow journalist it's up to us to peer review and keep things up to a higher standard.
Definitely picking this up for my 17th birthday(2015).
I'm still enjoying these games, working on finishing the first one for the first time. Excellent quality so far and I love that Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive!
Love this game so much that I'm using my capture card to make a movie short out of it. Huge fan. Thank you Platinum!
I remember reading somewhere that Platinum wanted to make a Bayonetta game for 3DS where the main character is Janne. I hope they do so with the N3DS
@vdallos Heh, glad that you enjoyed your purchase!
Such a great game, i actually had to go to multiple stores to get it on day one
This was nice! I got the game on launch but haven't played it yet. I have too many backed logged games to play & not enough time. T_T
Going to be getting this one on Christmas.. Looking forward to it, as I love me some Kamiya.
This is a game that I have low interest in because I have never been a huge fan of twitch style gameplay (my reflexes are not good enough anymore) shared by Bayonetta and DMC. I did however, hope that it would sell well as Nintendo needs the encouragement to step outside their comfort zones and third parties need to see that games like this can succeed.
I loved every Minute of Bayonetta 2! I beat the game, now playing through again! I purchased both games on the Eshop! Looking forward to a 3rd one.
Honored to be a part of the Bayonetta legacy. Here's to hoping Nintendo funds the development for Bayonetta 3.
one more person to own bayonetta 2 may not make a dent in sales but it helps, im also a proud owner of bayonetta 2 even though i got mine in the mail a week after release in the usa
loved both of the bayonetta games and thrilled that the wii u version contained the first one so that i had the chance to play it.
super annoyed that other countries always get the good stuff though, we didnt even get the angel book case in NA.
I usually don't buy games full price anymore because I'm tired of paying $60+ for a game with a 10-15 hour campaign, no replay value (sorry Bioshock Infinite, I see no reason to replay you), and no/hollow multiplayer. But Bayonetta 2 deserved every one of my pennies. It's also kind of nice seeing a dev thank people for liking the game, instead of hating on Wii U (and its fans) for not buying more. Akiko Kuroda should write all of Kamiya's Twitter messages for him
No way Platinum, you shouldn't be thanking us. We should be thanking you! Bayo 2 is awesome, one of the highlights of this year.
I really hope Nintendo asks them to develop Bayonetta 3 for their next-next gen console...
Thank you guys @ PG for making this game and bringing joy and excitment to our lifes!
Well when you make a game as good as Bayonetta 2 people are bound to love it! I got more than my money's worth and I haven't even touched Bayonetta 1 yet!
Got it on release, proud to support Platinum and Nintendo for such a great game, getting the first one included was icing. If only Nintendo did more for advertising, and actually used Bayonetta, in, I don't know, Smash Bros. lol
Awesome game, got it day 1. People who skipped it are missing out period. One of my best games this year alongside Transistor, Dragon Age, Age of Wonders 3, Mk 8, Endless Dungeon, Smash, Infamous first light, Shadow of Mordor.... Whoa its actually been quite a great year for games for me lol.
The only sad thing is knowing i won;'t play another Bayonetta game anytime soon, its a good thing Bayo 2 has so much replayability and alt characters.
Your welcome! and glad i went to the Nintendo World Launch for Bayo I even took home an exclusive poster and pictures with Bayo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pORj5yqCPSY that was my pov of the event
best action game of all time. thanks platinum! everything about bayo 2 is flawless and it kicks robot arse to see a game made by gamers instead of by committee
Thanks for making this amazing game.
Sad to say i don't own this yet. Hopefully ill have my hands on both games after x-mas.
still haven't picked it up, but because it would distract me from law school exams, its on my christmas list though, i'll be paying full price, really wanna play this
I havent purchased this as I didnt ever get in to the first game on the 360 so more of the same hasnt really appealed to me.
got it on release. Only played paart 1 so far. After beating part 1 i can say I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would.
Im hoping part 2 is way better more modern. Which it should be.
Definitely enjoying Bayonetta 1 & 2. We're glad you're happy, Mr. Producer!
...So... about Bayonetta 3...
Bought both Bayonetta 1 and 2 at the Midnight eShop release. I love to pieces! Easily my GOTY.
Thank you so much Platinum Games for bringing this stellar experience to the Wii U! While the sales may not reflect it, we DO love your game and we are greatful!
I hope you'll be bringing us Bayonetta 3 as well!
Thank you Platinum Games! You brought us a quality finished product and cared enough to do it right the first time. We are grateful for your hard work. Thank you.
I have not gotten it yet but I will try to January 2015
