The Japanese charts show that Yokai Watch 2 can't be put down for long as it rises back to the coveted number one position. Even with the release of the Xbox One in Japan, the game simply cannot be shaken, it seems.
Elsewhere in the software charts things are looking a bit grim for Nintendo, only two Wii U games appear and 3DS titles aren't dominating like they have done in the recent past. Mario Kart 8 still holds its own, and Hyrule Warriors refuses to fall out of the top 20, but is it enough?
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is being released in just a few days in Japan, so it's a safe bet to find that on next week's charts.

On the hardware side of things, the 3DS LL has dropped just over 6,000 units from last week, which is not a terribly encouraging sign, but given that the Xbox One has just had its launch, many consumers may have opted for Microsoft's shiny new machine instead. It should also be noted that the upcoming release of the New 3DS in Japan will be affecting sales as fans hold out for the updated system.
The Wii U's sales have dropped, but it's not by enough to cause any real despair just yet.
See the numbers for yourself below, last week's sales are in brackets.
Xbox One – 25,674 (New)
3DS LL – 23,624 (30,111)
PlayStation Vita – 14,441 (19,578)
Wii U – 7,349 (8,584)
PlayStation 4 – 7,299 (6,502)
PlayStation 3 – 6,139 (7,895)
3DS – 5,931 (7,404)
PlayStation Vita TV – 910 (1,156)
PSP – 288 (187)
Xbox 360 – 126 (86)

#XboxOneDoomedInJapan
What's up with the Fairy Tail banner?
Also, LOL @ XB1 launch, though that was expected.
...Is the psp still supported in Japan?
Xbox One launch numbers are less than a tenth of both the PS4 and Wii U that's just bad anyway you look at it and worse than the 60000 the 360 sold in two days in Japan, why does Microsoft waste money bring the console to the region.
meh, i wouldnt say it looks grim for nintendo. sales look steady. compared to the other consoles. nintendo is the most popular console in japan. i would think
Yeah, what is up with the fairy tail pic indeed? I don't mind it, but I don't see how it relates to the topic.
Why does Microsoft even bother in Japan. Its clear they are moving to more of a handheld society. Plus just look at 360 sales.
I think the pic refers to the three home console makers. Two look angry (nintendo and sony) and the third looks very confused (microsoft.)
Things do look grim for the console market as a whole, but that's not new. I really hope numbers get back up in the near future. The vast majority of my favorite games come from Japan, and I'd hate to see that market go more and more mobile.
I think NL predicted last week, that Yokai Watch would return to the top this week. Michael Pachter eat your heart out.
Also haters, Xbox one outsold Wii U and PS4 combined. #dealwithit!
Sales for Nintendo look okay. By next week Hyrule Warriors will cross 100k so thats pretty good.
@CaviarMeths @DracioKoi Whoever made YOKAI WATCH gotta kitten obsession I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed it was fairy tail tho xD
Wii U numbers haven't been this low in a long time......hopefully Fatal Frame will give the numbers a boost.
Nice to see MK8 hanging strong and even Hyrule Warriors is still in the top 20.....gonna reach the 100K mark next week?
@Nintenjoe64 @Spoony_Tech @Jazzer94 -
"that's just bad anyway you look at it"
"why does Microsoft waste money bring the console to the region."
Because now Microsoft can officially proclaim - "Xbox One - the # selling console, home or portable, in Japan". And they will, so there is a good way for them to look at it, and they will. And every ad will have that quote w/ an * and a foot note to highlight those media create numbers for as long as they sell the X1 in Japan. Oh, and US and EU will get a version as well, emphasizing how X1 outsold PS4 and Wii U in their native Japan. This week will live for the entire life of X1 marketing.
And that's why they released it in Japan Charlie Brown
Edit - BTW, X1, with that lousy install base, also has 2 games in the top 10, which is 1 more game than either the Wii U or PS4 which each have 1. So I'm sure that will figure into MS marketing as well, though that isn't why they released it in Japan.
Hopefully things get better in the upcoming months!
Surprised the Xbone actually sold that much. MS made a huge effort to appease Japanese gamers with 360 and they still ignored it. This time they're just not bothering to appeal to them.
So from new on we'll have four 3ds models on the list.
"New 3DS in Japan will be affecting sales as fans hold out for the updated system."
The new 3DS and new 3DS LL come out a month from tomorrow in Japan, Oct 11th, so I would hope the current numbers go down, especially w/ those awesome MH and SSB models coming out. Why would anybody buy a 3DS now? To be scorned and ridiculed by their peers? I already feel bad for any 3DS owning teenager who doesn't have interchangeable faceplates, it's gonna be terrible for them.
Besides the Xbox family, I'm just going assume these figures are just temporary until 'the calm before the storm' ends...
You know the titles.
@CaviarMeths I thought they were from Fairy tail too but I guess this was intentional.....
25.000? That's higher than I expected.
Why is there a picture from Fairy Tail?....
@Nintenjoe64 yeah but console launches are front loaded. The xbox did just awfull. Look up first weeks for the other two. The wonderswan sold more it's first week than the xbox one did
Well, Hyrule Warriors had a nice run while it lasted in Japan.
@Ryu_Niiyama Sony discontinued the PSP in Japan a couple of months ago, so I'd imagine once the last shipments have been sold, it'll join the console retirement home with other classic consoles.
It's still possible for Hyrule Warriors to hit 150k LTD in Japan, which would be a decent starting point to do 1m worldwide. I'm expecting lower of course, but will be very pleasantly surprised if it does cross into the seven digit magic land.
For fun, here's a list of things that sold better than Japan's XB1 launch week:
LMAO those XB1 numbers. X-D
Yokai Watch is something, my goodness. If it does this much damage overseas, Pokemon will truly have found a new rival. And Love Live! remaining in virtually the same spot is totally awesome.
I am sure the xbox and x360 did far better than 25k on their Japanese launches.
However I am afraid the XBO will be in the three figure region in no time.
Dear Microsoft,
Enjoy your number one spot. It won't last long.
Sincerely,
Everyone
@MoonKnight7 They managed to get the Japanese using Windows. (Apple has managed to get them using iOS). One thing about Microsoft is they basically never give in.
@unrandomsam
Sure, because the 360 took off so well, right? Arguably, iOS has changed the market to mostly handheld gaming so that argument counters your point; given that Xbone isn't a handheld machine. Whether they give up or not, Japan clearly isn't interested in Xbone going by those launch numbers.
Fairy Tail picture because...?
As bad as Ninento looks in other countries, there doing good in Japan. Xbone barely topping the chart, pretty wowing.
First off, LOL at Microsoft.
Second off, Yokai Watch has taken back the crown. Enjoy it while it lasts, because there are three challengers approaching that WILL dethrone you. You all know what those three games are. The last of the three, oddly enough, is the rightful king of Japan, coming with a nostalgic vengeance.
Third off, I couldn't care about sales talks about Nintendo this week - the hype train is going at near top speeds for Smash.
And yokai watch 2 is back on number one.My god i want to play yokai watch now, cause by sales wise it has to be good in some way.
Xbone has the worst launch in Japanese console history, even selling less than both 3DS models combined. Ouch.
@TheKingOfTown I was wondering the same thing. I think it's because the thingy at the beginning of article says "Microsoft adds a third home console to the mix."
I bet over half of those launch XboxOne consoles were sold to developers, industry people, game journalists, and collectors.
(Cue Donna teleporting to Tardis) What? What??? WHAT???
All jokes aside... this looks good enough to me. My second preferred console next to Wii U/3DS is Xbox, so I'm happy it's at the top.
