Shin Megami Tensei IV

For fans of the franchise, Shin Megami Tensei IV can't come to the West soon enough. The Atlus title will arrive in North America on 16th July with some collectible goodies, while a European release is confirmed but, as yet, doesn't have a solid date.

It landed in Japan last week, however, and it shouldn't surprise us that it's jumped straight in at number one in the Media Create charts. The software top 20 even has a rare sighting of a Wii U title, with Resident Evil Revelations, though it's been heavily out-performed by the PS3 equivalent — lifetime sales (not including all download purchases) are in parenthesis.

On the hardware side of things, the release of Shin Megami Tensei IV has provided a major boost to the 3DS LL — or XL as it is in the West — though there's little notable movement elsewhere. The Wii U continues to struggle, with this week perhaps providing some additional evidence that major exclusives are needed rather than multi-platform releases, as the lion's share of the Resident Evil Revelations sales went to the significantly more established PS3.

3DS LL – 40,651 (24,123)
3DS – 14,059 (13,001)
PlayStation 3 – 13,318 (10,948)
PlayStation Vita – 12,171 (10,931)
PSP – 5,749 (6,524)
Wii U – 5,648 (6,037)
Wii – 1,192 (1,143)
Xbox 360 – 382 (349)

So there you have it — another week, another dominant set of sales figures for the 3DS. The handheld's strong run just keeps on going in Nintendo's homeland.
